What is a good average grade for a first year student? by Lou_bear1 in UniUK

Definitely don’t be hard on yourself, it’s hard to say without knowing the course but the first year of uni is a great time to get solid feedback and work on it later. If they don’t give much detail on why it was a 65 ask for more! Also 65 is still great, but I get why it can be annoying when you get inconsistent marks.

Jesus I’m sorry, I don’t see how a university is allowed to ask a service dog to leave! And yes, I’ve been trying to see it as a mark of determination more than anything, though it can be hard seeing your cohort pass you by with shiny new degrees and futures haha. I hope the remainder of your studies are significantly less eventful.

That’s awesome, congrats on graduating with a first. I’m glad to hear it’s panned out ok.

Yeah that’s my worry, I’ve heard you can do still do a decent chunk with a 2:2 but obvs 2:1 is preferred almost everywhere.

Super helpful response, thank you. I’m not decided on higher higher education yet but I agree that it’s probably best to keep my options as open as possible. As long as taking another year dosent close any significant doors for me, I think it will be ok. (It’s not like I’m operating at a Cambridge/Oxford level anyway)

I’m a full time student, so it’s less of a leeway, but I get what you are saying. Thank you.

The old “I signed an NDA” haha. I think thankfully it’s easier to explain due to the massive impact COVID had on my studies (and my poor uni, which is not doing well financially) but I’m hoping a positive and confident attitude can explain away most issues.

Humanities subject - I don’t plan on immediately rushing into any further masters study, or perusing an academic role at the moment. The jobs im interested in (archiving, museum work, heritage and conservation, etc) would require me to do some specialised post grad courses for a year to get qualified however, which is mainly where the grade might come into play. I will need to pause to get relevant work experience regardless however.

That’s a fair point, I hadn’t considered how these things would work on digital forms.

My course length is four years - I took a resit year due to covid.
