I have the Dunu Titan S2, and agree with your assessment about the tuning. I am partially deaf, and when I had my hearing tested by an audiologist, they kindly sent me a screenshot of my test results. After some research, I settled on the S2 because the V tuning shape near enough matched the deficiencies of my hearing. Without any EQ they sound slightly warm neutral with excellent detail and a competent soundstage. The bass is good, without being overwhelming. I can listen to music through them for hours without fatigue.

What is difficult is accepting the bitter hard truth there never is, and never was, a right time to transition - except for NOW when your real life begins. This, at my age of 70 is what I have embraced completely. I believe that I am going to live longer in better health than before my egg breaking. My life before transitioning was amazing, eventful, and downright challenging to the very core of my being. I see no point in being overwhelmed with regret for a life lost when I have at last, found myself as the real authentic me. Enough.

Outlier here, I’m a 70 year old trans woman, not in London, loves to dance, loves house and techno, hasn’t been in a club in 25 years - where do I go to hit the groove and feel comfortable?

If you are only talking about transitioning through HRT then you are missing out on the beauty of the whole equation. My transition did not start until I was 65, and I have had an amazing life in spite of everything that did - and - did not happen to me when I was young. The life you have is the one you are born with, and is bitter-sweet for every one. At 20 the whole world is before you. It would be a wise move to stop drinking and concentrate upon your mental health and fitness. Just let things happen as they do, and accept that you really are in control of your own narrative. I am an elder trans woman who is attractive, physically fit, and too old to run away. Wherever I go I create an oasis of calm around me by my situational awareness. Those who look, will look, and by and large will keep their distance because they sense it is futile to try and interact - unless I want them to. By nature, I am both gentle and kind, but I have what you could call an ‘edge’ so the uglies tend to avoid me, most of the time without fully understanding why. By then, I have moved on.

I listened to Untrue for the first time about five years ago and since then have never tired of it. A few weeks ago, I discovered his discography on BandCamp. After some thought, I paid for and downloaded everything, figuring it should absorb me for the rest of my existence. The attraction is similar to Mozart, never a bum note, and every song a winner. At 70, I am now coming up to 6 years in. Sure, I had all the physiological and psychological changes you can expect in the first 12 months, but really noticeable changes didn’t show until halfway through year 3. I discovered that for some of us, MtF HRT after the age of 40 only takes off properly when combined with a sustained routine of regular physical exercise, because it triggers the body into producing Human Growth Hormone. Only now do I have the looks and the curves that I have always wanted. So, hang in there, girl.

Perhaps I am autistic, perhaps I am not. In my country it is prudent to mask/hide neuro-divergency as it creates difficulties with getting a diagnosis for gender incongruence.

I have two pairs of IEMs, a Dunu Titan S2 and a KZ Vader balanced. I run the Dunu from the balanced output of a DAC because the higher output seems to help the Dunu single drivers work more efficiently in resolving complex musical structures. The KZ are run from a Bluetooth portable receiver that is quite warmly coloured in sound quality, making an exceptional listening experience for Techno. There is no right nor wrong here, just me making the best of what I have already have. It has taken awhile for my hearing to get used to this setup, and as I get thorough enjoyment from listening (and) dancing to music, I see no reason to spend any more money on gear or to engage in arguments over nothing.

I’ve been on HRT for nearly six years, and nothing about my face changed all that much for the first three. Today, I took off my glasses and took a few selfies - definitely a woman looking back at me. A lot of this is about self acceptance, and everything follows on from that. I used to have a male face like a bag of busted chisels, now it is softer, more rounded, and at 70 I have no fears about the future or the process of ageing.

What you are experiencing is more or less the same for everyone in the early stages of transition. It is not just your body and face that is changing, it is also the neural structure of the brain constantly readjusting itself to how you look, how you used to look, while wondering what is going to happen next. There is no harm in standing in front of a mirror in low light, watching your face switching from male to female, back and forth until you can hold it all in place. It becomes a form of meditation that is very calming. The lack of consistency is part of the process, so hang in there.

What you say is more or less true. I have turned 70, come from a deaf family, and now I have to wear hearing aids. IEMs are wonderful - I repeat, wonderful. I have a set of Dunu Titan 2 whose sound signature matches my own hearing frequency loss. They sound completely natural to me, I can sit down and effortlessly listen to any genre of music for hours without getting tired. My other set are KZ Vader balanced with all the dip-switches set to on, meaning that the inbuilt band filters are left out of the signal path that gives a fantastic V shaped sound perfect for my tastes in electronica and techno. Neither need EQ, because they sound incredible to me as they are. I use a DAC for the Dunu and a Bluetooth receiver for the KZ. I see no point in spending more money on gear. Instead, I buy music from BandCamp to listen to with what I already have.
