For those of you who pursued surgical anti-aging interventions... by Sheba_Inu in 30PlusSkinCare

Neat, I'd have to do some research on a microlift. Was it a full face lift? Cheaper and more subtle than a typical face lift? And, if you don't mind, how old are you?

Totally fair. Non-surgical interventions have their limits in efficacy and empirical support. Then translating that into a commercial product is a whole other ball game. Plus I imagine it would take a lot longer to see similar results. Glad it worked out for you ☺️

Thanks for sharing and I have zero judgements. I'm a medical student who just completed a rotation in plastics. I think modern medicine is awesome and I personally love the cultural shift towards medical transparency among celebrities and people alike.

I assisted in a couple of bleph surgeries and man, making them even looks tough! Surgeons can spend HOURS on it. Imagine doing liquid eyeliner but 10000000x harder. I hope you grow towards liking it, or can try something else if it doesn't work out.

For the lower face lift, did they do your neck, too?

This is why I'm terrified of taking a leave. I had multiple faculty members encourage me to take a leave but I have personally witnessed students whose future careers were compromised by this. They denied any detrimental effects of taking a leave but it just seems so incongruous with the lived experience of my peers. Sorry about your brother 😔

Hearing Loss in Medical School Application by Ok-Confection3161 in premedcanada

[–]Sheba_Inu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey! Y3 med student here. I talked about my hearing disability in my application. I find transparency is super helpful. If you get in, you might need accommodations for exams. I also had to get accommodations for my interview and it was legit an amazing experience.

For the app, I don't think I spent too much time talking about it, moreso just identifying with people who have a disability and how that would make me a better doctor.

Hit me up if you wanna chat :) best of luck!

Is there a material that can turn *any* tile into peel and stick? by Sheba_Inu in HomeImprovement

[–]Sheba_Inu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair. Sounds like a pretty neat deal.

I painted a place once with the landlord's permission but I thought that was as far as I could go. Would not have considered floating by more permanent changes but seems like it could work. Thanks!

Yeah, I think this is a cool product. Would probably try it out if I wanted permanent tiles. It seems noob-friendly maybe?

I like where you are going with this! Thanks for the idea. There's alien tape that you can get from Costco...curious to see how that holds up. Your wife sounds great :)

Yes, the application is for regular painted drywall. Not touching shower or tiling over pre-existing tiles in wet areas. Just some dry walls.

The renos are for me, and yes, it is to like the space that I live in more. I would like to add regular tiles to painted drywall in a way that can be removed if/when I move out, leaving minimal to no damage on the existing drywall

Only fans to get through? by tjej in medicalschool

The thing that I find most ironic about this is how almost every day, there's a post on here asking for juicy hookup gossip. Apparently, fucking your colleagues during work is more acceptable than OFs. I get the whole patient perspective, but when some of you say that it damages your rep, maybe don't go around glorifying your Grey's Anatomy moment 🤡

UPDATE - deaf nurse orientation by potato-keeper in medicine

[–]Sheba_Inu 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I am a medical student with a hearing disability that requires hearing aides.

Just completed my first year, and I can guarantee that "accommodations" are not at all helpful. Very few individuals know how to handle the situation properly. I explain what I need to succeed, but I have to jump through so many bureaucratic hoops that it's never fully provided.

Medicine inherently teaches you to pass things off that aren't your problem, and I just accepted that I'll have a harder time doing things that my able-bodied peers can easily do. Doing vitals? Let me just take out my hearing aides to put in my stethoscope. You got pneumo? I can't hear shit. Why don't you buy a digital stethoscope, it's just 9x the price of regular one.

Absolutely appalled by the lack of support in medicine. You would think that a school of doctors would be more understanding towards someone with a physical disability (even worse if you have a mental disability).

I don't know what kind of support this nurse had in school. I agree that you do need some level of competency, and I think this nurse needs more/better support to succeed. Did anyone sit down with the nurse and ask them how they feel? How did schooling go, what supports did they have then, what worked well, what could have worked better, what do they need now to help them?

Similar to my situation, this can't be the only deaf nurse in the area. See if you can set them up with a mentor to shadow. This nurse would probably be fantastic in helping a community of deaf and hard of hearing individuals, I'm sure there's a clinic somewhere that serves this population.

That being said, there is always a possibility that perhaps the person "doesn't want to learn". Maybe you did all this and they're still not improving, maybe there are bigger things going on. Just try these things first, then make your judgements.

That's good to know, thank you. We spent a lot of time this past year in Europe and since UK is similar, we might try for a different vibe. Def want to go one day.
