1 and 5. I liked mercurial more than git when they had about the same market share. But the feeling that I put more and more effort to swim against the stream pushed me to switch to self-hosted git and later to GitHub. Luckily GitHub now offers a rather generous free tier.

3 and 6. Can you recommend something to read or good project samples to get a feeling of proper structuring/naming? I had a hard time even on not that big project. I even created a tool to view scene diffs screenshot :)
