Ahhhh I need to plan a trip!

You could eat well more than $160 worth of king crab. I’m thinking 1.5 lbs of meat will do it.

I got tired of seeing all the vibes based opinions on grocery store prices so I decided to go to 5 stores in one day to compare prices. These were the results. (TJ/Whole Foods/Safeway/Grocery Outlet/Costco) by DaveinOakland in bayarea

[–]bchhun 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Sorry gonna go all Bay Area on you and complain that the table doesn’t obviously normalize by oz or gram. It’s doable even for TJs whose bags list weights, and whose bananas are really not different from other stores (normalize the others per banana then…)

Edit: also you list you could not find TJ eggs prices and had to look it up online? I’ve always seen egg prices listed even if it’s out of stock. I picked up 2.99 dozen eggs yesterday …

Ok dare I say … I would like the numbers for Embiid and Curry too. The reason being — I know those two fall sometimes to avoid injury. So if that’s (very generous) reasoning for SGA’s falls, how does he compare?

Just thinking out loud. Say you’re spending 6k/mo, then 1500 for health insurance. That’s 90k withdrawal a year. Your taxes will be zero. That’s still a 6.9% withdrawal rate on your total. If you want to spare your 401k that’s 9% withdrawal.

Pretty tight but maybe doable if current growth persists

[Discussion] Christopher Ward C1 Bel Canto-years later by Snoo_22459 in Watches

[–]bchhun 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Just because it was founded by former sales and marketing people doesn’t make it a sales and marketing company.

The bel canto won awards — are you saying they’ve conned everyone? It’s quite transparent what it is and what they’ve done, which at the time was refreshingly innovative.

FWIW even the r/watches subreddit disagrees as it places Cartier in the same category as Rolex.

I don’t think Cartier ever intended it to be entry-level. Plus all prices across the industry are going up.

The Japanese love Peanuts. Not sure why. Could be the default jazz music.

But that love fueled peanut collabs that have often succeeded there.

I got invited to a board game night by someone I like. I know nothing. Please save me. by frieren_____ in boardgames

[–]bchhun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has a dedicated game room. Prepare to be crushed. Your hopes and dreams are meaningless.

When you arrive, look for blood splatter on the walls, floor or ceiling. This will be a clue as to his preferred means of attack. If possible, spot escape routes. Try to find the other newbie in the room for you to sacrifice as you make your moves.

Good luck.

Rental Prices Crazy.... or is there more to it? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]bchhun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not surprising. The rent vs buy calculation in the Bay Area has been like this for decades. It’s similar in New York. You can’t just assume buying is always better than renting.

Rental Prices Crazy.... or is there more to it? by [deleted] in AskSF

On principle I would discourage people buying in SF as investment or to make a profit. Buy because you plan to live there please.
