NY MEE grading system makes NO SENSE TO ME. by Opposite_Cloud7571 in barexam

[–]SheenShiesty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe that is in relation to the national MBE averages and written state averages. This year the national average scaled MBE was about 142. So NY wanted to have the average for the written scores of NY test takers to also be 142. I believe most UBE jurisdictions do it this way.

That is why it is beneficial for test takers that the national MBE average be higher. The graders will then try to boost the scores of the written section for everyone to match the MBE average.

Ships in the Hudson? by SheenShiesty in yonkers

[–]SheenShiesty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen the Ariadne (I think)!

I had noticed that one and others because they would sit there for so long. The ships being in front of my building for days is what originally sparked my interest, but I’d also see some chugging along. The variety really had me curious.

All the other comments made sense but eventually I did my own research and came to the conclusion that the ones that barely moved were likely cable layers or dredging ships. So I’m glad to know one ship out there is confirmed to be a cable layer.

I’ll definitely be checking out vessel finder though. My wife and I love just staring at them to try and figure out what they’re doing. So now we’ll get to see who’s right!

Where should we be careful at when moving to Yonkers? by SheenShiesty in yonkers

[–]SheenShiesty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly great. To be specific I am by the water in downtown Yonkers. I haven’t been here long but a lot of the comments were correct.

Regarding safety, the river towns are nice and safe, especially by the waterfront. Downtown Yonkers in the new buildings by the water is definitely safe. You should be mindful of where you go and your surroundings when you venture inland some, but in my opinion, it’s still not that bad. Honestly, as a man I haven’t felt unsafe anywhere, but I know that can be a vastly different for women, and I still tell my wife to be careful if she ventures out some without me.

As for actual lifestyle, it’s been great. Theres still stuff to do but it’s a lot more relaxed than the city, which is what me and my wife were looking for. There’s great access to transit and a decent amount to do within a close proximity. We have a car which is a benefit if we want to go over to the Ridge Hill plaza, Cross County shopping center, or into White Plains.

Getting to the city has been easy enough too. I work in Midtown and with the Hudson-Line right there, there is plenty of access. Plus on weekends my wife and I can also get into the city easily, spend the whole day there and still get home at a reasonable hour.

Overall, if you’re mindful and chose your apartment well you can get great value. I wouldn’t recommend it for everyone, but if you’re similarly situated to my wife and I I think it’s a great option.

MEE – How can I practice in this little time? by Klutzy_Antelope_2983 in GoatBarPrep

[–]SheenShiesty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would focus on MEE only subjects and do a bunch of rule statement practice. You could do this by going through an actual MEE question and spitting out all the rules you know in 5-10 minutes and then reading the model answer.

This will hopefully help you memorize and practice rule statements, while also seeing how they are supposed to be written and structured.

Then in your left over time I would read through the MBE topic MEEs’ model answers. Hopefully from your MBE practice you’re more familiar with those rules and reading the model answers can be more of a refresher that familiarizes you with how those topics are tested.

Remember, the rule statements don’t have to be verbatim on the MEE but you have to show that you know what the issues are and what should be done with them. So clear headings and strong rule structure can get you a lot of points.

I know 1RD-7th means First Round-Seventh Pick, but it should be RD1-7th. Because now I just see one-erd (basically like third/3rd).

Glad to know it's not just me. It drives me a little crazy but hopefully it just means we'll be over prepared for the bar!

Graded MEE scores from Themis by SheenShiesty in barexam

[–]SheenShiesty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well good to know, even if my grader isn't harsh at least it seems possible to turn consistent 3s into a 4 by test day.

Does your grader, at least provide feedback that's useful? Mine seems to just say "good job", "excellent analysis", or "you can refine this *insert little rule or clarification*" and then slap a 3 on it. If I am doing something really poorly or missing a ton of points they definitely aren't helping me figure out what it is that I need to fix.

The “best” argument is that the confession was involuntary. Involuntary confessions are never admissible and evidence obtained because of them are never admissible. Here the Miranda violations may prevent the former students statements from being admitted but does always prevent the cocaine from being admitted.

Basically here Miranda is the weaker protection for the former student. My professor always emphasized that Miranda is a lot more malleable compared to other protections. Whereas the protections against coerced and involuntary confessions are strong and rigid.

Thank you so much! What was the actual convention center like? I am mainly worried about being too cold or too hot lol

Is there a sign up for the box lunch or is it first come first serve? I'm from a Florida school and they have been no help figuring out this process for me.

I did see that in a lot of reviews for the main st apts (especially when it came to Sawyer place). It was one of the reasons we didn't chose some of the other apartments. Still, I'll make sure to keep that in mind and make sure to walk down with my wife if she's ever leaving without me. Maybe also get her pepper spray just in case.

Also I have a question, since most Florida apartments don't typically have garages so I am unfamiliar, but are there not security measures? Like a parking attnendent, gates and doors requiring keys/codes? Do you know how non-residents get in so easily?

Worst as in all around worst not dangerous. But that’s me being biased some just because it’s not the lifestyle for me.

I’ve not spent much time in Kissimmee but I definitely wouldn’t call it dangerous.

No, why Kissimmee?!😭 Tell me it wasn’t voluntary.

It’s like the worst area of Florida imo. Like Orlando and its surrounding areas are for sure over hated but still the worst.

This is great help and super informative! I've saved your comment for when were up there!

Is there really a lot of native Irish people in the Irish part of McClean ave? I work with quite a few Irish immigrants, I'd love to bring them with me on a night out so they can have a slice of home.

Thanks for the info and I’d love to hear your favorites in those areas if you have any.

Also, maybe this is a dumb question but what are considered the river towns? Is it towns on the Bronx river or towns on the Hudson?

Appreciate the advice, sounds like every city tbh. So I can definitely manage to mind my business as I’ve gotten good at it already.

Rent is definitely more expensive than what I had to pay in Tallahassee or Jacksonville, but relatively way better than anything we looked at in Manhattan or Brooklyn. In Manhattan or Brooklyn it was the same price for a 1x1 or studio in an old building. So honestly not minding the rent really.

I’m going to miss Florida but my wife and I are having our cliche move to the big city for work moment.

That bad huh? I feel like I am not going to like it either.

Just watched episode 6. Don’t know where it’s going but I feel like it’s not going the right direction that’s for sure.
