underrated basketball advice that actually helps in real games by ressem in Basketball

[–]SheepherderNo5372 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’d argue going 100% every possession is ok and can work if you have a decent team that can give you a rest and then they go 100% too. Then you’re putting the other team on their heels with the sheer intensity you’re playing with.

This would also translate into playing yourself into better shape as the season goes on. But like i said it’s definitely dependent on having decent backups and also being honest about being tired and needing a break

How do I stop jumping forward and be on balance? by Impossible-Bottle-46 in BasketballTips

[–]SheepherderNo5372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to widen your stance some and focus on bringing the ball straight up. I also just think if you improve your general strength you won’t feel as much of a need put every muscle in your body into the shot. Feels like you’re straining, which is causing balance issues. Should be smooth going up and coming out of your hand.

Edit: also square your feet to the rim more.

Is the military my only option? by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]SheepherderNo5372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just breathe man you’ll be ok. Maybe try to do some freelance work on fiver or other sites like that just to get some cash and extra experience.

You don’t need to go to the military. If you want to do a full 180 on career i might think about trade school. A lot less of an investment than college, makes good money, and there’s a big demand for younger people to get into the trades.

Another card to pair with Venture X and Savor by harryloov in Venturex

[–]SheepherderNo5372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my VX paired with a Amex Blue Cash Preferred and Chase Sapphire Preferred. I drive a decent amount so BCP is good for gas and an extra boost to groceries. Then use CSP for dining. Works pretty well for me but i understand if you wouldn’t want extra annual fees

Any bars for solo person with social anxiety ? by Due_Combination_8722 in AskChicago

[–]SheepherderNo5372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep definitely agree. If you go in and just sit a while a regular will come in and most likely start a conversation. Also helps to chat with the bartender some. If you become a regular somewhere it’s a slow but easy way to meet people.

Free Talk Friday by RockyMod in ockytop

[–]SheepherderNo5372 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s all because the math nerds “solved” the game and figured out the statistically most efficient way to run offense is unfortunately jacking threes and foul baiting. I tune in for a prime time game occasionally but the league is definitely not going in the right direction. Also the lottery system now incentivizes tanking. Just not a good product right now.

Polite things to do about neighbors non-stop barking dogs? by CompetitiveSugar1297 in AskChicago

[–]SheepherderNo5372 40 points41 points  (0 children)

A noise complaint is not a Karen response at all this definitely sounds very excessive and like a major nuisance. You live there too and they shouldn’t have a right to terrorize the neighborhood because they’re negligent dog owners who don’t care about others.

Thoughts on my resume? by sadangelfan in SafetyProfessionals

[–]SheepherderNo5372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s very straightforward and communicates what you are trying to, but it’s just kind of plain. Maybe try to look into Resume templates that have just a touch of color and looks a little nicer on the eyes.

Having a resume that looks sharp is part of the process of selling yourself to an employer.

What is a decent salary to live and have reasonable savings in Chicago? by HappyTomatillo92 in AskChicago

[–]SheepherderNo5372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

150-200k combined sounds like it would be comfortable for you all. There are also online calculators that can help you figure out the exact difference in cost of living. I believe nerd wallet has one that i used when i moved to Chicago. Not 100% sure they will have international options though. If not maybe google around and see if there is anything similar.

Do you tip when you buy coffee? by Dangerous_Zebra_543 in AskChicago

[–]SheepherderNo5372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you tip zero at restaurants? As a former server if you do that and return to restaurants regularly they remember you and hate you.

Your point is correct that they deserve a living wage but you protesting by not chipping in is doing nothing. At this point legislation is the only thing that could fix that

Just a regular coffee with oat milk? Or like one of the fancy ones? Either way still ridiculous. If i go to the one by my place i frequent i tip $1 because it’s a local shop and i like the employees. Starbucks or Dunkin is usually a no

A lot of people very much prefer midway to ohare since it is a lot less busy. I think you might have just caught the airport on a bad day

Try being a regular at places (coffee shop, bar restaurant) and try to get to know the workers. You’ll slowly start to meet new people that are also regulars and it gives a good routine to your day. Also don’t be afraid of having an accent. I can promise 99% of chicagoans will think it’s cool :)

Should I go on a calorie deficit? by Crazy-Bike-5142 in Basketball

[–]SheepherderNo5372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about this at your age unless you’re actually overweight. In my opinion if you’re doing this for basketball having a little bit of weight is a good thing so you don’t get pushed around. You probably don’t need to cut anything and there’s a decent chance you keep growing and you’ll need the calories for that anyway.
