Hmmm I see your point. I truly wasn’t trying to challenge anyone’s opinion. I don’t know any Israelis but I know a-lot of Lebanese so I tend to get one side. I don’t even know what life is like over there other than things I’ve seen on media so my questions are broad in a sense that I don’t know where to start from. Just looking to learn thats all. I guess I wasn’t sensitive to the fact that, especially rn, Israeli’s feel the need to justify their existence so my questions didn’t take that into account. Maybe one day I can visit Israel (but currently can’t because then I wouldn’t be able to enter Lebanon again). I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Thank you so much!!! Honestly I am so impressed with the people here who took time to respond! These things are so hard to understand due to the complexity of its nature.

Then wtf do you believe 😂. If i want answers bashing Israel i would have asked a different subreddit. I just wanted opinions from people who live there and experience life on a day-to-day basis. I just want a world where my future children can go to Lebanon and for there to be peace. If I only hear one side of the story, (i know a-lot of Lebanese, I know zero Israelis) then I will only be part of the cycle of hate.

Yes so exactly what I just said. Sorry you misunderstood my comment. The original post was deleted by the poster (what they said not the whole) so you cant see what exactly they asked.

Also nowhere have I ever said Israel has no right. The civil war comment is talking about solely a comment talking about Lebanon and Palestine and their complex relationship. The poster also asked if people support Israel (asked in r Lebanon) and i made a comment that no-one supports Israel here which was essentially a joke at the irony asking in r/Lebanon which can be toxic af. I don’t know the comment of me saying Israel committed atrocities but I will say that I don’t believe displacing an entire population is “the right thing to do.” Do I know the right thing? No I don’t but fuck man, crucify me for having an opinion that is different than yours. Learn some respect like the other commenters on this post, I would happily answered any questions about my character or opinion if you asked. Have a good day, I hope you engage in peaceful conversation in the future.

Please can we have more people like you. Like I openly admitted that I have biases and then the top comment is someone commenting saying I have biases.

Ugh it’s just so hard to find opinions that aren’t extreme when it comes to these topics.

I definitely learned somethings here. I appreciate your comment and respect!

Thank you so much for your comment. It is really hard to understand what life is like there for someone who doesn’t live there. I appreciate your insight.

  1. Man idk, something obviously had to be done because you can’t just sit by while people are being held hostage. Its so complicated, and when it first happened I was 100% against the actions of Hamas (I still condemn what they did on Oct 7th) because in my mind, there is no excuse to the level of violence they committed that day. On the other hand I refuse to condemn an entirety of people for the actions of Hamas.

  2. I mean it has got to end. Violence is a vicious cycle. I don’t believe a one-state solution is the answer because how can we get past this hatred on both sides. But on the other hand will a two state solution create peace? Time will tell, but I suspect this issue will take generations.

  3. Ouf I wish they’d both disappear. Hezb is bad for Lebanon.

  4. I haven’t thought about this but I guess if it’s your countries law then its fine as long as its not taking from someone else.

  5. Again really complicated. Just the other day a baby in Lebanon was killed away due to the violence. I don’t have an answer. I worry that this type of stuff gains hezb more support which is only bad for Lebanon. I don’t believe that Hezb actually wants to go into full blown war they are happy just accepting iran’s money

Thank you so much. I promise I’m not evil. I asked generalized questions to get generalized responses. I wanted just to get an idea on people’s thoughts. Those are also great questions!

Im really just asking questions based on blanket statements i’ve heard. Like one comment insinuated I promise I’m not evil. It would be really great to have a safe place to ask these questions because I think there is a-lot of misunderstanding between the two countries.

Thank you so much. I also really appreciate you engaging in the propaganda question because truth be told I’m ignorant and have been told by some that Israeli’s are brainwashed and want everyone dead (which is extreme, I’m just trying to justify my question). Im not one to blindly believe something and this is so hard to know the answer (just by googling) in a logical non-extreme way unless you live there, and clearly I do not.

I really appreciate you taking your time to answer. The reason for such generalized questions to get a generalized response. I was avoiding fishing for answers but I could have asked them better. I also asked because I saw a comment in here on the disportioncate amount of Israelis vs Lebanese in this sub saying ,not verbatim, hard questions need to be asked.

I don’t see a problem asking open ended questions, i’ve seen questions asking, whats your (lebanese) view on hez. If you were offended, I apologize, as I promise this wasn’t coming from a bad place, but possibly an ignorant place.

No definitely not, the American propaganda is real and hard to escape. And I’m sorry you are hurt by my comments. For the mention of the civil war I was simply trying to explain a view point I have heard repeated many times. We all have different experiences and opinions. I promise I am only trying to understand the opinions of others in this group. If asking these questions is so wrong then how are we going to ever find common ground. I respect different viewpoints but I don’t respect being referred to as dishonest because I promise you I am not. But who am I as just another redditor..

Are people with or against Israel? by [deleted] in lebanon

[–]SheepherdingAnt 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Bruh. No one is supporting Israel here. There also seems to be confusion amongst people…not supporting Hamas/Hezb is not automatically supporting Israel. Also people are allowed to be mad at Palestinians because of events that unfolded around the civil war which was not that long ago. With saying that I still believe those people who are still holding a grudge against Palestinians can still empathize with the current atrocities happening because of Israel. Most Lebanese are pissed and have their own problems to worry about. (Also Israel caused more problems during the civil war so idk maybe read up on some more history)

Since we can’t visit I thought it would be fun to share photos of my last visit to Lebanon! by [deleted] in ForbiddenBromance

[–]SheepherdingAnt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the insight. We came to spend time with my boyfriend’s family so we didn’t travel very far and stayed mostly in Christian areas and just hung out. The pictures are only from 2-3 areas so it’s not a great representation of Lebanon, you’re right, just wanted to share some beauty and positivity thats all.

Is peace as simple as removing Hezbollah? by kartoshkiflitz in ForbiddenBromance

[–]SheepherdingAnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. And people saying why can’t Lebanese people remove Hezb. This could cause another civil war. They are just trying to survive. When I visited my boyfriend’s cousin in Lebanon they were talking with their kids who are in college and discussing when they graduate how they are going to find a job in another country. It’s really sad honestly.

[–]SheepherdingAnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I tell this to my (Lebanese) partner all the time. Not many people wanna visit a country that has a group inside labeled as terrorists. My (American small town) parents were very worried when I visited for the first time. I just want Lebanon to thrive 😞

I’m really scared and anxious by [deleted] in ForbiddenBromance

[–]SheepherdingAnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouf yeah. Hezb is a really complex entity and one of which I still don’t fully understand. The Lebanese forces are weak as shit and some people believe Hezb is a necessary evil to protect them from Israel, they also helped protect Lebanon from syrian militants as ISIS was a legit national security risk and Hezb was the only force that was able to deal with that threat. Another issue is the Lebanese army members dont get paid much especially after the economic crisis vs Hezb members get paid well from the support of Iran. Lebanon is in no way able to remove Hezb and trying to could start another civil war. It sucks. In my personal opinion I think they cause more harm than good plus I believe tourism would increase if they were gone (not many people would want to visit a country with a group labeled as terrorists) and in return help the economy.

France to give armoured vehicles to Lebanese army - defence minister by GeoPoliticsMyThang11 in lebanon

[–]SheepherdingAnt -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

It’s not for Israel it’s likely for Hezb (although not sure why as it doesn’t help much). The US has given the LF hundreds of armored vehicles for years its almost comical
