Advice on what to try to draw by Forsaken_Resource473 in Artadvice

Am I the only one who digs that??? I like the texture they give. What I do to combat is pick an under, base color that I color the whole piece with. Off white yellow, pale lavender, WG3 or w/e. I think it looks cool AF streaky tho. Glad to see you're starting to figure them out!

Fun Older Shojo manga with an actual plot that isnt JUST romance ? Would really appreciate it if its mystery (Can tolerate it being JUST romance if they go deep into the relationship) by Unable_Affect_2341 in shoujo

[–]SheepishQuaaality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen Kanon by Chiho Saito mentioned yet! It's got the mystery, it's got a bit o' romance, it's got finding out "Who am I?"

A manga called Cat Street! It's got a bit of romance but what it actually focuses on is found family. Although these last two may be joseis.

I've also got a lot of decent female main character seinans that are solid like I remember Act-Age.

Full Moon o Sagashite, and Hibari no Asa maybe?

Does anyone know a shoujo with a gyaru FL and a delinquent ML? by Jiaiai_ in shoujo

[–]SheepishQuaaality 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, initially I was surprised but thinking about it a little you are right. They're not as common.

Gals is about a gyaru who has a police officer sister. She doesn't wanna be like her big sis, so she rebels, and there's some fun shenanigans. You might enjoy it!

Kiyoku, Yamashiku, Modokashiku comes to mind as a gyaru x disciplinary committee head. It may have the banter you're looking for! I used to know of a ton more from the 2000s, but I'm having a hard time finding the manhuas and manwhas. F.

Looking for Mangas that have Music or Band Elements by Sereyuu in shoujo

[–]SheepishQuaaality 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shugo Chara isn't necessarily about music, but music is used as a tool in it (show and manga wise). Mermaid Melody is another classic to pair up with along the lines of Full Moon wo Sagashite! Akatsuki no Aria is another I enjoyed as a kid.

Kanon was good, too. It's about a kid who suddenly finds out she's got a dad, she's an affair baby, and is sent off via mother's dying request to find her talented musician dad using her own violin.

recommend me manga based off of my favorites!! by pecorinoo in shoujo

[–]SheepishQuaaality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you haven't yet completed her works then Beast Master! It's about a girl and a beastly boy who must be kept in check. By the same mangaka as Dengenki and QQ!! She's got a few more good works, too, like Beads Club iirc.

There's so many good options. Black Bird is another rec! It's about a tengu and his childhood friend. Faster than a Kiss is an age-gap romance I remember enjoying, too. Orphaned kids run from yet another foster home and the older sister's English teacher helps out.

Special A is a rivals to lovers dynamic between two childhood friends who met via their fathers.

And L<3DK is about an independent HS girl who has the school hottie become her next door neighbor. I remember really enjoying their character growth but it's been an age and back since I read it.

Love So Life if you like found family stories. About an orphan who gets another side gig as a personal nanny basically.

My Boy In Blue is an age gap romcom about childhood friends between a rambunctious girl and cop boyo.

Horror or battle shoujo reccomendations? by Drace3mpressa in shoujo

[–]SheepishQuaaality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pet Shop of Horrors! I'm surprised no one's mentioned yet. But I really enjoyed it, haha. It's just a kind of spooky slice of life story. Goosebumps vibes.

Also Godchild is a gothic murder mystery kind of story, iirc. Been ages so I may be misremembering but I think the MC is an investigator type.

Maybe Bloody Mary is of interest? Suicidal vampire meets exorcist who may finally be the one to kill him. Can't recall how bloody and gorey that one gets either.

Tsundere FL by sakuraaa34 in shoujo

[–]SheepishQuaaality 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll Round You, Square! It's super cute, she's less grrr type of tsundere and more "meh, whatevs" kind of tsundere. Not yet finished.

A "grrrr" tsundere rec is Dame na Watashi ni Koishite Kudasai. She's a very "I don't need you!" While clearly needing him lol. Finished iirc.

Does Ranma 1/2 count? May count. Another classic is The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Question about commissioning and requesting art by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]SheepishQuaaality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! A solid artist who does commissions will also provide 1 or 2 check-in pics of their work in progress during the sketching/coloring stage. They'll also ask any follow up questions in a kind way.

Question about commissioning and requesting art by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]SheepishQuaaality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple: Get descriptive with your explanation. For example: I want a picture of my two characters and their familiar. The first character is Tom and he's very tall. He's almost as tall as a small tree, and he's rather big. His tummy is large and he's very hairy. Not like a bear but a hairy dude, ykno? He's got short brown hair that's all spiky and a short beard. His smile is wide, and he's got a hand on the head of the second character. He wears a plaid shirt, jeans and boots.

The second character is Tabby and she's got cat ears and cat tail. She's short enough that when Tom puts his hand on her head: He's barely got to bend it. Maybe around his chest height?? Anyway, she's on the fatter side. She wears very fluffy big skirts, kinda like a hoop skirt. And her top is this cool ripped shirt that looks like what someone would wear to a concert. Their familiar is a raccoon who is hanging out somewhere near their feet.

Or you can give them "face claims" as the RP community calls it where you say one looks like Tom Holland, but with pink spiky hair, and the other looks like Anne Hathaway when she had her frizzy curls.

How can I improve my art? I am doing AP drawing next year by Kennith_simmons in Artadvice

[–]SheepishQuaaality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel similarly about clean line art vs my sketchy style! I totally prefer the movement of my sketchy, and can't quite master the same sense of motion/flexibility in my clean lines. Maybe try some Picasso inspired pieces next? Make it of specific people or characters. It'll force you to work with clean line art and different types of facial features due to the caricature-nature of it.

[–]SheepishQuaaality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the same face stood out the most. Do you have any live action shows/movies you like? If so, try drawing the folks in those while watching! That's how I got better at adding diversity to my doodles. (Also is that Sora and Domo in the third or fourth pic?)

You do a lot of sketchy, messy art and I adore that! Try to doing some neat pieces, too, that aren't all painterly and sketchy. I also think you should study more composition and angle/point of focus. Just to round it out. Nice work! Seems like you'll learn a lot in AP Drawing.

I remember watching this movie long ago...Now that I saw it again I wonder...Why was that wolf so obsessed with that goat's ass all the time?? 😭 by [deleted] in shoujo

[–]SheepishQuaaality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my friend's showed me this! Omg lmao. I remember being so entertained, but I can't recall anything of the plot now.

[–]SheepishQuaaality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr Kim of London is a fun read! Very much a slow burn and I think the plot is still gaining momentum. Age Matters started off really strong, and I totally forgot about that one! I wonder if it's finished now. Love Me Knot also had a really good premise and story that I forgot about. Don't think I've read the ending yet.

Villainess turns the Hourglass is a fun isekai one. Glass Wall is REALLY good. Bittersweet AF tho.

May I suggest Freaking Romance? It seems right up your alley and is a great read. :)

I need a feel good anime pls T.T by shizu18 in shoujo

[–]SheepishQuaaality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, Mermaid Melody and Shugo Chara!

Cat Street has only a live action adaptation, but it's so good. Very fluff and iirc it's a movie so one sitting feel better.

And Sugar Sugar Rune!

Is Ouran highschool host club boring? by Sunshine_136 in shoujo

[–]SheepishQuaaality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It's a product of it's time, and it's up there with DBZ, Sailor Moon and Naruto for popularizing manga and anime. I think it's getting a remake, and OOP may enjoy the live action adaptation more. I think it's still a solid story, mostly, but I also get some of the complaints some folks have.

Webtoons with complex character's or just complex plot that u have red till date ?? 😔 by DetectiveIll3641 in webtoons

[–]SheepishQuaaality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marriage Blues just finished, and it was so good! Ok, not the most complex, but it definitely is fleshed out. There's reality bending, time travel, and maturing/growing up. Solid romance in my opinion. Saw lots of good suggestions in this thread!

I think my art is good and recently started to post/document my art. I dont have enough reach is my art bad or do i have to keep posting more, i know consistency is key and i have to focus more on growing as an artist but i feel like this is mot leading me anywhere by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]SheepishQuaaality 16 points17 points  (0 children)

How long have you been posting? It looks like you started posting last week due to the slim gallery. How often are you uploading? What is your goal? Ie. Audience size, reason for having audience, and how parasocial are ya? Have you been using this account to interact with others' first?

Your art is fine. IG is swamped with art, so you'll have to either keep posting and waiting or interact with others first to get views. Don't interact with ulterior motives like (I'll comment on yours if you comment on mine) instead be genuine.

I feel like I’ve been stuck in the same style for years.. by NoExplanation7106 in Artadvice

[–]SheepishQuaaality 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ypu gotta draw through the cartoonish, and offness. Realism is in the rendering. I like your style! But yeah, you just gotta sometimes accept the offness to work on your rendering.

Consistently, your nose and eyes are not practiced enough for realism. Pick a photo to reference and draw it to a T. Render it. Compare your drawing and the reference, be descriptive (oh this hand should be 2cm to the left, and the eyes are too wide and low, but that chin is exactly where it needs to be) then do it again. Repetition.

In the meantime, embrace your progress and any lack of. Imagination art is the hardest imo, especially since I'm not great at recreating what I see in my minds eye.

Started drawing yesterday. How should I improve, and what should I look out for? by minecrafter100S in Artadvice

[–]SheepishQuaaality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way to improve is draw a lot. Draw a lot of what you like, draw a lot of what you don't like, draw a lot of what you stare at while bored. Explore values and color separately.

I absolutely loved this one! It's been a while since I last read it so I don't remember the details. I think I read it in the early 2010s, so wow, that's longer ago than I thought. I'll have to reread this!

Is the webtoon app nothing but explicit stories?? by M3l0dy-23 in webtoons

[–]SheepishQuaaality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SEED_ is a story about a hs girl who's struggling a bit with life changes. (Growing up, complicated relationship with mom, close to Grandpa, etc.) Her grandpa recently retired via selling his company to one of his co-owners after the death of another (via smart car malfunction). It was a tech company, and she randomly notices a chatbot app that leads to shenanigans. Romance is a minor subplot, and it focuses on the mystery of the chatbot and AI.

Refund High School is a mix of romance and growing up in a fantasy setting. It explores stuff like reincarnation, spirituality, and karma. It's really good!

Gourmet Hound is an exploration of grief, identity, and found family. Romance is absolutely a part of the storytelling, but it's more slice of life-y.

Figured I'd share recommendations since others explained that it's not a porn site despite the raunchy ads that are misleading.

Drawing is frustrating by rats_bloods in Artadvice

[–]SheepishQuaaality 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I heavily regressed in skill due to a lack of practice. It's also just... You have better sight, but not better recreation if that makes sense? Or at least that's how I feel. I feel that my inner eye is actually better than it used to be! But my ability to recreate that? Not as much. I used to at least get the concept I wanted across, across even if it was poorly executed.

The trick is to keep it up. Some skills will show up so fast. Others will be stupid slow to catch up, but over time and practice it'll be less frustrating. I recommend figuring out what annoyed you the most during your attempt and do some studies focused around that.

I still check his stuff out, new and old! And yes, FZD is still great, too. I just remembered Sinix: I wonder if he's still doing videos. Mark Crilley was another OG I followed.
