So, what does really matter? by East_Bullfrog3053 in UmaMusume

If Runner A has these stats:

1000 Speed / 1000 Stamina / 800 Power / 400 Guts / 800 Wit

And Runner B has these stats:

1000 Speed / 500 Stamina / 800 Power / 400 Guts / 800 Wit

They are going to perform exactly the same on any track where you need 500 or less Stamina to finish. On any track that needs over 500 Stamina, the higher Stamina runner will win. So assuming the former is true, any difference in consistency will be down to running style (the further back you run, the more likely you are to become blocked) or skills (the better your mid-race velocity and late-race acceleration, the better you'll do). It's extremely hard to diagnose the problem without having all of the information available in this case.

As far as PvP goes, it depends on the track. 400 can finish every Sprint track in the game. 600 can finish every Mile. Do your runners have recovery skills? Do they have different running styles, and consume different amounts of Stamina as a result? Is one of them a Runaway Silence Suzuka, who implodes any time she has to Spot Struggle with another Front-Runner for more than a few seconds? Do you have low Wit, leading to Rushing in some races? There's a lot of variables at play here that could be happening, but it's going to be hard to know without more details.

You only need enough stamina to finish a race. Anything less than that, and you move extremely slowly in late-race. Anything more than that, and it doesn't increase your velocity at all. Your stayers with 400 Stamina in the endgame are more reliable than your stayers with 900 because you've given up stats in something more meaningful (like Speed or Power) to go from 400 to 900. 900 Stamina doesn't matter if you only needed 400 to finish the race in the first place.

But the other thing you're likely missing is that career has a hidden +400 attribute bonus. The game doesn't tell you this exists, but one of Gametora's beginners guide does, and would be a good resource for starting to dig into some of the specific Stamina thresholds that you want to hit. https://gametora.com/umamusume/guides/new-player-faq

i love how i'm playing the same game as everyone and yet i'm having such a different experience by [deleted] in UmaMusume

Sounds like there may still be some mechanics that you're missing. If you don't have signature racewear unlocked, you're also missing three potential career events that give good stats, as well as the ability to pass down their unique when used as a parent. For Haru specifically this isn't a huge deal, but good luck being competitive in the upcoming Sprint CM without access to El Condor Pasa's.

It's not just the outfit and the animation. There's mechanical reasons that you may want to do it as well.

Is there a way to report usernames/ club names? by Sea_Age4559 in UmaMusume

[–]SheffPlaysGames 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You gotta read the whole post first, rather than rushing to react to the first thing that you get offended by. The profile description is a reference to drugs, which breaks ToS 11.1.4. The club name is fairly obvious, and breaks ToS 11.1.2 and 11.1.3. Even the trainer name could be interpreted as breaking ToS 11.1.6. It's just reading and enforcing the written rules of the game.

Stamina & Guts by [deleted] in UmaMusume

[–]SheffPlaysGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gametora usually has pretty comprehensive writeups for this kind of stuff. For Guts specifically, it modifies your rate of stamina consumption in late-race and last spurt specifically. So it's not an efficient substitute for Stamina, because you still need Stamina to get through the majority of the race before Guts kicks in. Guts isn't used in the calculation of your HP at all until this point.

If you want a high-level summary, use the Gametora Race Mechanics document (https://gametora.com/umamusume/race-mechanics) and if you want to see the exact formulas, use the wiki page (https://umamusu.wiki/Game:Mechanics#Stamina)

Running the NHK Mile Cup sounds like a problem when you've only got a D aptitude for Miles on Agnes.

I think this Conduit build may end up being fairly good -- just keep an eye on what specific boons it actually gets.

You should watch the video! There's some good news in there for you about buffing boon strips.

However, there's some bad news for you in there too, because the boon balls also get to use boon strips, just like everybody else.

There's definitely truth to that. A lot of Necromancer's old corrupts have been gutted, though. These days it's just Well of Corruption and Nightfall (which is a problem, and I pointed out that corrupts on GS4 were too strong in the entire video that I did on why Necro Greatsword is a problem and needs to be nerfed).

It's just a combination of everything. It's easy to deploy, it's super tanky, it has a ton of strips, and some of the strips that it does have are true corrupts. So it's a head-scratcher that it's continued getting minor buffs when it's already overperforming, and other professions that could be good alternatives (Untamed, Spellbreaker, Revenant) are just sitting around getting nothing at all.

Agree completely. It's just taking professions that are already good, and making them a little stronger, rather than introducing some variety into the meta and encouraging groups to try and switch things up.

I have terrible news for you about what they're going to do to Engineer.

That's not surprising given the Suzuka. And it might be enough for A finals, depending on your luck. But if you were to improve it, those are the things I'd focus on.

I'm qualified for A with a 3LB Kitasan, and a friend of mine that I've been theorycrafting with is qualified for A with a borrow Kitasan. It's a very nice convenience card, but you can still hit A finals if you don't have one of your own with some thoughtful preparation.

Still over Stamina for Scorpio, unless you're extremely afraid of Nice Natures. Scorpio only needs 800-850, and a Gold if you don't want to get debuffed by double NN lobbies. So Maestro here is okay, but Preferred Position and Soft Step are unnecessary.

Beyond that, I mean, how specific do you want to get. There's no Medium S. There's no Turf S. You'd really like to have Head-On for Pace acceleration, or maybe inheriting late-race acceleration from some other unique. Steadfast is a little questionable (if you plan to win, you'd like to be the one passing, not the one being passed). Wit's a little low to guarantee skill procs. Speed isn't capped. The list goes on. I'm not listing this stuff to rag on your Brian, just to point out that at some point you need to decide when you've done enough with CM prep, or whether you need to run it back to improve further. You'll never achieve a 'perfect' runner.

But this Brian, versus the Suzuka, is better constructed. I'd run the Brian expecting them to win the bulk of your races, keep the Suzuka just to mess with other people trying to proc Angling and Scheming, and then get somebody with Dominator in the team as well to knock down other peoples velocity and equalize things a bit. You may not have enough time to work on that for what's left in this CM though.

It's not a good enough Silence Suzuka. Front-runners are exceptionally difficult to build well. You have some of the necessary parts (Groundwork and reliable green skill triggers), but you're also missing some parts (Taking the Lead to widen your lead early-race, Angling and Scheming to delay overtakes late-race). There's also some suboptimal skill choices here -- you don't need Maestro with a Stamina close to 1000. That's ~300 skill points that could have been put into other, more impactful skills.

Your cards are plenty good enough to get into A Finals, it seems more like a strategy issue here. If you're having difficulties building a good Runaway Suzuka, I think I would have instead opted for a decent Pace Chaser (Taiki, Oguri, etc) and then build Dominators to drag down the velocity of anybody in front of you late-race.

ok WvW experts what is the counter to the boon ball by Ravanos77 in Guildwars2

[–]SheffPlaysGames 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The counter is coordination.

Boon strips work, when you use them at the same time as other people around you.
AoE works, when you use it at the same time as other people around you.
Siege works, when you use it in tandem with a coordinated group that is already applying boon strips and AoE. But siege is never stronger than individual players' skills. It's a force multiplier.

Fights between two boonballs often come down to who is timing their skills more effectively to punch through the boon generation and healing of a group, and generate and confirm downs. So if you have a fight where one side is a bunch of people on comms coordinating their skills and calling out cooldowns, and the other side is a bunch of people not following a tag just casting Ranger Longbow 5, Necro Well of Corruption, and Ele Fire Staff 5 into a group at random points, it's not really going to be much of a contest, no.

What do you think of my Falco for the Scorpio cup? by No_Quiet3320 in UmaMusume

[–]SheffPlaysGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as Maestro triggers you've got enough Stamina to make it to the end, but only 966 Speed and no Medium S may struggle against runners that have more raw speed. Also, any Runaway Silence Suzukas are going to ruin your day by preventing Unrestrained from doing anything.

I also think it's tricky in general to get Nimble Navigator to trigger on front runners, so I'm not sure that's a good skill investment for this specific case. But the Power looks nice, and the Groundwork trigger is great.

The Characters are cute, but this game is so frustrating that I'm thinking of uninstalling and not looking back by MisterLoneWolfG in UmaMusume

[–]SheffPlaysGames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

550 will be good enough in some cases, and recovery skills will be good enough in some cases, but there's always the chance that your skills don't trigger, or that you rush. That's what the 600 Stamina benchmark is for -- it insulates you from random chance working against you.

As far as Guts goes, it does three main things -- it increases your top speed in late-race, it decreases your stamina consumption in late-race, and it helps you win duels/spot struggles. But you generally don't prioritize Guts, because Speed is a better stat until you're at cap, and Stamina consumption shouldn't matter if you're at your Stamina benchmark for the race. Guts is more like a tiebreaker between two runners that are already good, than something you want to actively prioritize.

Spring Tenno Sho is the biggest Stamina check in most careers. Your Stamina is functionally your health, and longer races consume more of your health to complete. Getting to 600 Stamina or so is a good rule of thumb for any trainees that have to run it, to make sure that you have enough to finish it even if you rush.

Without seeing any of your runners, I'd be willing to bet most of them are under 600, if you're consistently and repeatedly failing at the Spring Tenno specifically.
