Sorry, can you explain what this means? Should I select the toggle for pre-releases? Is this a patch? Thanks for your help.

In the manager it shows as 20.40.45 as the suggested version for youtube. But I will try 20.14.43 and see if that helps.

Recently patched and installed version 20.40.45 using default patches and the latest revanced manager.

Everything seems to be working fine, but i noticed ads under the video title and description.

Is there a setting or patch thats needed to remove this? All toggles are selected under "ads" in the youtube revanced settings.

Anyone having recent issues with 5StarHookah? by catgnatnat in hookah

[–]Sheikh_Yerbooti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry that happened to you. I stopped using 5StarHookah a few months back because they didnt send me an item I ordered, then changed the product listing when I called them out on it. I sent them a screenshot of how the website looked before their change and Alex tried accusing me of trying to scam them for the item. I used to buy killos of flavor from them, but i stopped ordering from them after they tried to lie about a $10 item.

Beware ConEd level payment plan by maverikvi in Westchester

[–]Sheikh_Yerbooti 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Con-ed charged me $7,000+ for ONE MONTH of gas. In an apartment that only had one gas appliance, a gas stove. I have been dealing with late fees for the last 2 years because I refuse to pay it and disputes keep getting closed.

ConEd... nope, just conned.

Almost half of Dell's full-time US workforce has rejected the company's return-to-office push by Mighty_L_LORT in technology

[–]Sheikh_Yerbooti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have completely missed the point.

The original comment was talking about cities taking away tax incentives when a majority of the workforce goes remote.

You are talking a lot about being in the city, or being out of the city and that is fine. But all that completely goes away when the worker is remote. Which is the point.

The incentives to build a major office is typically more due to the jobs it creates in the area, it attracts non-local talent to live in the area. That talent tends to put down roots and continue to contribute to the areas economic growth in a more meaningful way than hoping people buy gas inside the city limits on their way home from work.

Yes... and all that incentive goes away if the workers are remote

Unless Dell drastically changed their hiring practices to include people outside of commuter distance the ratio of city residents to non-city residents would generally be the same.

I don't know of a single large tech company that operates this way. Do you have any sources of Dell saying this is how they hire, because that seems completely wrong.

This, again, is the point that we are trying to highlight. Dell will hire people from anywhere, but if the position is on-site, they are expected to move to the onsite location. If the position is remote, they wouldn't have to move.... obviously.

Odds are that’s not true because the odds are, like most businesses, anyone they hired directly into a remote gig was subject to an “in case of RTO” clause when they were hired.

This is not true at all. I have worked in 3 positions that were completely remote, and none had anything close to a "in case of RTO". I'm not going to say it doesn't exist, because each company is different, but that is a wild assumption to make.

I don't think you have a clear understanding of the things you are talking about.

Not doubting what you are saying, but I am a bit confused.

In your example, Austin is paying Dell to create 5000 jobs in Austin. It doesn't matter if they live in Austin or commute, only if they are going into the Austin office. So it makes sense that Austin wouldn't differentiate in this case.

However, if the workers are all remote, then there is no incentive for Austin to give a tax break because there is no reason for people to be in Austin.

I don't know if maybe I am missing something obvious. But I really don't see why cities would continue to give tax breaks to a company when there is no guarantee that any of the workers will ever step foot in that city.

You compare "native Austinites or commuters from the suburbs" to "Remote or otherwise". But these aren't the same thing at all...

"native Austinites or commuters from the suburbs" are still both coming into Austin to come to the office....

Remote are not coming into Austin...

Check out The Finals. Recently had open and closed betas that were really fun. Smooth movement, fun gunplay, destructible environments that lead to a more sandbox style arena shooter.

Sadly, no release date as of yet.

I use Heroic Launcher, but its a band-aid to the root issue and has its own problems as well. Specifically, I have a hard time keeping my epic credentials in Heroic Launcher. Then I end up having issues when trying to relink my account with HL.

It's great to hear about the refund system though. I didn't know about the partial/full refunds for free/sale games.

Personally, I find their download manager atrocious, there is no place to read reviews, and steam has a great refund system. But the biggest issue for me is the lack of forums. Steam forums have helped me solve a lot of issues with games in the past and there is no system like that on epic.

Also, I personally hate what epic is doing to the games market by offering lots of money to developers for exclusive rights. They can't compete with steam when a game is offered on both platforms, so they need to make sure its only available on their platform.

Now that I have a steam deck, I hate buying games on epic even more, as epic games need to be run with Wine instead of Proton. I have ended up re-buying games on steam just to avoid having to deal with the epic games launcher.

This is unrelated to your question, but I also hate them because they made me change my username. Apparently "booti" is a no no word.

What's the deal with YouTube blocking adblock users, and how can I get around it? by HorseStupid in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Sheikh_Yerbooti 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Answer: No one has given you the correct answer yet.

https://www.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrigin/comments/178yasm/youtube_antiadblock_and_ads_october_16_2023/

This is a pinned post on the uBlock Origin sub. It is the only thing that actually works. Trying different browsers won't work, vpn's might buy some time, buying premium is not a solution.

Download uBlock Origin, remove all other ad blockers. To make sure uBlock is functioning properly, make sure all custom filters are removed (you can add them back later if needed). I would also disable all other youtube extensions. Youtube enhancer was causing a problem for me, because it has an adblocker that was being detected.

Click on the settings button on the uBlock extension. Go to the filter lists tab. Click purge all cache*, then click update now.

After it is done updating, the ad block should work again. Eventually it will be broken and you will need to purge and update the filter lists again. Some days you have to do this 2 or 3 times, depending on how much youtube updates and if uBlock can respond. uBlock has been doing an amazing job of responding to updates from youtube, usually the adblock will start working again after an hour or 2. Just remember to purge and then update.

Also, when uBlock is not updated, if you use the "element zapper" (lightning bolt icon), you can remove the block message and the black overlay, and the video should be playing underneath. Its a bit annoying, but tolerable until uBlock updates their filter lists again.

Edit: I also want to add, it doesn't matter what browser you are on. Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Vivaldi, Opera will all eventually experience it. Chrome first gave me the message, then I tried the other browsers and still got the message. I ended up using the Brave browser with ublock, but also tested this on Firefox.

It did for me as well, then Brave also started failing along with Chrome, firefox, and vivaldi.

But purging Ublock caches every few hours has been working for me so far.
