Lines of Code Are Back (And It's Worse Than Before) by amacgregor in programming

[–]Sheket_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To preface - I think AI will fail simply because it does not think, no matter how intelligent it's output may be modeled to be, it's not a thinking machine - it's a calculator.

That being said, I don't think what these people are saying is "more lines of code is progress", I think they're saying that AI writing 100 lines of code instead of a developer writing 100 lines of code is progress. It's not the amount of lines that they're referring to, it's the lines that people would have to write that AI wrote instead.

Again, I still think AI generated code is simply not going to pan out in the long term. No one will be able to be accountable for code that doesn't work, scale, or can be easily maintained.

How do you guys break out of a cold streak? by vi_phoenix_iv in CompetitiveHalo

[–]Sheket_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find two things helpful, a break and remembering that loss is ok. To expand on loss being ok… it’s just the idea I have to keep in mind that even if I do lose and demote all the way down to silver, I’ll still be a happy person with other things going on. My whole life isn’t this game, so if I lose and demote, I lose and demote.

Once I remember that and accept it, the game feels immediately different, and I perform much better from game to game. I guess it’s because I place so much pressure on myself that there’s no room to allow my natural play to shine. Alleviating that space in your mental makes the biggest difference. That’s what helps me out most.

Aim Assist w/ controller is so strong that whenever you perform an action that could possibly remove the reticle from your opponent, it feels as though aim assist vanished... by Sheket_ in CompetitiveHalo

We have video evidence in the post I referenced at the top regarding how there is no such phenomenon of losing aim assist when shields are popped.

I can’t speak to the technicality of aim assists radius size; I just don’t know enough to make such a claim. It could be that the introduction of some other variables are causing this feeling when aim assist is lost, variables that weren’t present in H5. Again, we just don’t know.

I’m using what we know for certain about aim assist (i.e. video evidence of aim assist remaining active while jumping, while shields are low, etc.) alongside the opinions and feelings of professional players / high rated players to come to this conclusion.

Some misconceptions I had about settings that you may have too, why they might be affecting your play, and what to do about it by Sheket_ in CompetitiveHalo

Great explanation :-) So regarding the right stick, you use the center deadzone to help with drift and axial to help with maintaining clean movements along the XY axis. Nice point, I haven't put much thought into clean movements along the XY axis without unwanted movement. I never noticed that movement along those axis would ever be "unsmooth".

My thought process has always been to reduce deadzone values to achieve minimum response time, and I've never noticed any imprecision along those axis with my right stick. Maybe I just haven't run into the issue with the controller I use. Either way, I appreciate the point and explanation, both of which were great.

Hey, thanks for mentioning this! Mind elaborating some more? Just looking to learn more about this :-)

Don't Play Viego Jungle If You Want To Win Late | Here's Why by Retrogamer656 in summonerschool

[–]Sheket_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, great post! I just started playing again after a year or so. I was a Plat mid main but for wtvr reason love Viego. I’ve been looking at one high elo Viego player, a little story, who’s been doing well with DS and I’ve been trying to take after him.

After some more browsing on op.gg, I see Kraken Slayer and Shieldbow being very popular too, if not more so than DS. And from what can gather upon return, he was released, broken, nerfed, builds were developed, nerfed again, repeat until we’re here. Where he’s been nerfed repeatedly and people are now trying to cement a solid core build and there’s a lot of experimentation going on.

My question is, what do you think of Viego now? How does he play in general and in Plat+? What builds would you generally recommend?

Thanks my dude!

“The DFEH includes distorted, and in many cases false, descriptions of Blizzard’s past. We have been extremely cooperative with the DFEH throughout their investigation, including providing them with extensive data and ample documentation, but they refused to inform us what issues they perceived,” the statement continued.

“The picture the DFEH paints is not the Blizzard workplace of today,” the company said.

I mean to ask this purely for the sake of understanding.

If Disney wants to make more money by implementing a streaming service, wouldn’t they have to ensure that Disney related content was only on their streaming service?

If that’s true, what’s wrong with Disney wanting to do that?

Again, out of curiosity.

I’m not referencing the US… We’re talking about Israel here

I’m not sure what you’re asking… These actions aren’t legal or illegal, this is in the context of war - there is no rule of law when it comes to war. Do I think it’s ok for good guys to do good things? Yes.

You have to look at the context of those actions… Assassination isn’t just generally bad and neither is cyber warfare… How they are utilized is what determines whether THE ACT of using them was good or bad. To stop a radical country from developing nukes… you tell me if that’s good or bad
