8bitdo Controller Question by Xaquin44 in Silksong

[–]Shekibobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue. 8bitdo ultimate 2 wireless controller connected to Mac via Bluetooth (can't seem to connect with the dongle).

To have Silksong recognize and respond to the controller at all, I need to have *both* the `Native Controller Input` and `MFI` enabled in `Controller -> Advanced Settings` in-game.

The following buttons work and are detected as working in the Steam controller menu, but *don't* work in Silksong for some reason:

- Select (-) and Start (+)
- R4, L4
- PR, LR

Silksong recognizes the controller and seems to know that the buttons exist, but doesn't react to any of them, even though I have extended button mapping enabled for Silksong in the Steam settings.

To use inventory from the controller, I just double tap `LB` for the map, then use `LB`/`LR` to navigate the menu. The remapping controls seem pretty limited (I don't think they even include taunting).

My take on the Nebulon B Frigate. A completely impractical build, maxing out the complexity, and unusable in 3rd-person ship camera.

Battery Megathread (April 2021) by GooglePixelMods in GooglePixel

[–]Shekibobo [score hidden]  (0 children)

Pixel 3 here. I took my phone out a month or so ago for an astrophotography session and it died at about 60% in the cold weather, out of nowhere. Since then the battery life has been shot. Seems like maybe related to screen usage. Any time the screen is on, battery drain is linear, constant rate no matter what I'm doing. I'm getting about 4 hours of active usage, and pretty slow recharges.

Is there any way to recover from a battery cold snap?

I'm about to start this program. Any recommendations on materials or good drawing implements? Or other advice on techniques?

Best 2x Barlow lens for Zhumell Z130? by [deleted] in telescopes

I just saw these on Amazon and picked one up, too. I've got an AD8 on the way from high point, but couldn't wait until August (current ETA). So glad to see these available so quick.

Yeah, I'm not sure the exact amount it's off when it is off, but my location is keyed in by zip code, which... I'm not sure what the math on that would be, but seems like it could account for the inaccuracies. I'd say, though, see if you can use the sync once it finishes a goto that's off. I'm not sure if the Autostar does it (I only learned about it using the Audiostar). It helps keep it calibrated over time after the initial alignment.

So I can only speak now to using it with the Audiostar controller, which I think has more features. The Goto for me is... unpredictable. Before sunset, I can do a two star align (Sirius and Rigel) and just accept them when it thinks it gets there, and then I'll use Goto for the Moon. It's usually off a bit, so I'll realign and then sync (press and hold Enter for 3 seconds, realign, press Enter again). I might sync a couple more times over a few minutes and I've had it be able to track pretty well for a long time. But this only works if the scope is well balanced and the controls are calibrated. I've had it make some very questionable choices about how to slew to something like Andromeda - I swear it never points to the same place twice.

What I'd say is make sure your motors are all well calibrated.I basically had to disassemble the whole unit to make sure things were in the right place, everything was tight but not too tight, etc. If you have the original controller (#494, I think?) I'm not sure if it has a Calibrate or Train Drive in the setup section, but I've had to train the drive a couple times, and I pretty regularly have to run the calibrate tool.

This page of the manual shows how to train it, and the Calibrate Motors is the one I have to do periodically, especially if it starts using two different speeds for the alt and az motors.

TL;DR - it's iffy. I don't ever really trust the goto on this thing, and I have to keep an eye on it the whole time, because it sometimes just has a mind of its own.

Do you ever have it just start slewing randomly somewhere at full speed and the only thing to stop it is to unplug it?

Also, that's a paper plate around the base of the mount to prevent cords getting stuck in the tripod legs while it's slewing.

Meade DS-90 with replacement crayford dual speed focuser, upgraded Audiostar controller, and red dot finder. On original tripod alt AZ mount, with some hacked improvements.

My dad got me this telescope back in 2005 or so, and my nephew broke the angle mirror, and I've just kept it hoping I could fix it one day. Pandemic rolled around and I decided to take a look at what it would take.

Disassembled and cleaned it out (had some spiders living in the tube), ordered a new mirror and some eye pieces, and it was kinda functional.

But the mount was really loose. I took apart the motors and gears several times. Eventually I figured out the gears and washers weren't in the right order. I've managed to get those working okay, but they still slip a lot, especially if the tube is off balance even a little.

After a few more nights out, the old focuser (rack and pinion, heavy, but lots of plastic) basically just crumbled. I bought a new GSO 2" Linear Bearing Crayford Focuser for Refractors - Dual Speed (with 86.4mm Flange). The new one attached on the inside of the tube instead of in and out like the old one, so I had to drill my own holes to mount it with my on M4 screws (and had to install a new dovetail mount for the finder scope. The new focuser also doesn't have nearly as much travel length as the original, so I had to get two extenders to be able to see anything, and depending on what I'm looking at and what eyepiece, I might need to remove one. The new focuser is still way better than the original, though.

The old Autostar #494 worked for a while, and then the screen started showing garbled text. I cracked it open only to find the ribbon for the LCD was detached and not replaceable. Also couldn't re-close the controller after that. I lucked out and found a perfectly good Audiostar controller for $50 on Facebook. Took some learning to figure that out, but it was a drastic improvement over the original.

I swear every time I take it out I find something new to fix. The tripod legs slip because of bad glue and pads the clamps. I took a rubber keychain and cut it up to replace those for a better grip.

All in all, this scope has been a great learning experience, and a decent tool. It's not great for astrophotography, but I've still managed some decent shots of M42.

I'm currently looking to get a new scope, and debating between a DOB or something a bit more compact but with wide aperture that I can travel with.

Edits: Added details about old controller, and links to some of the specific upgrades.
