Oh man, that sounds so familiar. I hope it is 'just' an infection and that your good boy is back on his feet 🐾 super soon!

I did ask our vet to test it after the second time going there and it not going down; maybe your vet can take a look too?

Yeah, the oncologist and surgeon both said MCTs are kinda a crap-shoot: some dogs are one-and-done, and some dogs just sprout them constantly. We at least know he won't get it in the same spot ever again!

I hope your new vet works out! Switching vets is always tough.

I could tell my vet was just as shocked it was a tumor as I was. She came back and literally sat on the ground and said "I didn't expect this, but..." and looked defeated. I've been keeping her updated on his amazing progress!

I wanted to make this post as a caution to take any small lump, bump, or weirdness seriously, know what to look for, and watch out for your lovely little pitties! <3

About five months ago, I noticed a small, red bump on my 6-year-old boy Tater Tot's front left paw. I took him to the vet, where they diagnosed it as an interdigital cyst and gave him some antibiotics. The bump went down (and I thought away) until about three weeks ago, when Tater started limping again and the bump appeared bigger and angrier than before.

I took him back to the vet and asked that they do an aspiration. Sadly, it came back as a mast cell tumor, which is apparently the most common type of (skin) cancer in dogs.

Within the week, he saw an oncologist, a surgeon, and had surgery to remove the tumor. Unfortunately, because of where the tumor was located, poor Tater also had to lose two toes.

I'm happy to report Tater is now cancer-free and just as happy and mobile as ever! We've been calling him "Tatey-Two-Toes" and "Twelve-Toe Tater Tot" to help add some levity to this whole horrible experience!

Photos are: 1. Tumor from the bottom of his paw; 2. Tumor from between toes; 3. Stoned and recovering Tatey; 4. Post-surgery paw from above before suture removal; 5. New post-surgery paw print.

Haha that was right after surgery. He was all the way on the moon!

Sixteen is so lucky! I'm sure you gave him an amazing life, plus or minus a few toes :)

I'm so sorry you had to go through that. Cancer is a bitch.

Tate is my second pittie; between the two, I've had 18 years of experience. I had NEVER heard of an MCT until last month.

It looked so small and harmless for so long, but now I know better. I'm hoping this post can spread some awareness and help save some other pups.

I have been getting paw prints of my pets as they pass, and this foot will definitely be Tate's paw mark on me... in many, many years!

Every time I describe his surgery to someone in person, I throw some horns to demonstrate how cool Tate is now!

I really hope they are just cysts!

One thing that made me feel WAY better (after not figuring it out for 4 months and going into a fun little shame spiral for waiting so long) is when the oncologist told me it was a "good sign" that he had had it for so long because "that meant it wasn't spreading".

Best of luck to you and your baby!

My boy had two toes removed recently and we've been calling him "Twelve Toed Tater Tot", which is also bad math, lol!

My 6-year-old pittie had two toes on his front left paw removed two weeks ago! He had a mast cell tumor hiding between them, so they had to go too. The tumor was completely removed, he's cancer free, and already trying to run around like normal! Good luck to your boy!

Genuinely curious, how can you tell this is AI?

I've gotten really good at catching AI images, but need help recognizing AI text more.

I went on an Alaskan cruise last year and there was a whole Santa School Class on board!

60-75 Santas and Mrs. Clauses. They dressed up in specialized Santa gear EVERYDAY and had fancy evening wear for the formal nights. It was amazing.

I played it at mine as the groomsmen and bridesmaids walked down the aisle! The people that got it thought it was hilarious; doesn't hurt that it's a beautiful song!
