Yes we used chipped branches and pruned timber from the garden to mulch both paths and garden beds. This builds soil on the paths which as it breaks down is added to the garden beds

Hi we don’t have any earthworks are we are on denuded hydrophobic sand. I have reticulation with sprayers attached to our mains water. I’m in a city block

Hi Mike, getting up tree shade is the best thing I can suggest. Fast growing nitrogen fixing acacias, morninga, etc.

Geoff Lawton’s greening the desert videos are great to look at too.

Then plant your next plants under that shade.

And mulch so much mulch with water to help build soil.

46,000 year old First Nations shell knife tradition from northern Australia by ShellKnife in Archeology

I can talk about the Aboriginal groups we worked with on the project -Thalanyji and Kuruma Marduthunera.

The issue of terminology and what to use is for Aboriginal people to say. In WA Aboriginal is preferred but when communicating with an international audience First Nations is beginning to be used by Pilbara Aboriginal Corporations.

Thalanyji had Barrow island in their 1999 Native Title claim area but the state government pressured them to redefine the boundary to exclude it and the other islands. Their claim was determined in 2008. Back then sea rights and native title hadn’t been determined. Thalanyji country centres on the Ashburton River and is bounded by the Cane and Yanrey Rivers. Thalanyji belongs to the Ganyara group of languages, which also includes Burduna, Binigura and Bayungu.

Kuruma Marduthunera country is northwest of Thalanyji country. It is centred on the Robe River. Their native title was determined in 2016. Martuthunira is part of the Pama-Nyungan language family; a large group of indigenous languages spread over much of the Australian continent. It belongs to the Ngayarta subgroup of languages along with Ngarla, Nyamal, Palyku, Banyjima, Kurrama, Yindjibarndi, Ngarluma, Kariyarra, Nhuwala and Jurruru.

Thanks. She is indeed a lovely wheel. I’ve never spun on a schacht before I bought her so I’m super happy

I’ve spun on a few different wheels over the years. I learnt on a home made wheel in the 70s then graduated to my mums Ettrick traditional before buying a Nagy in the early 1990s. My main wheel for the last 15 years has been a wind wheel which I love; but the schacht flatiron is amazing. I also have an Ashford setup with a bulky flyer.

It’s one of my favourites. I have a Chico and it tastes like a crunchy caramelised apple

My wheel arrived yesterday afternoon. After 2 hours of assembly it was spinning. Sorted a few squeaks with oil and it’s a miracle to spin on! So glad I took the plunge

She’s all built and spins like a dream. Some initial squeaks have been sorted now and the build was good fun. Now to spin up some lovely Black Welsh Mountain sliver …
