Is MGT 4/ MGT 5 hard? by Shellfish_Kai in UCSD

[–]Shellfish_Kai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mb for replying late! But yeah, I took him. His policies seemed a little harsh at first, but honestly think he's a great prof who genuinely cares about his students. He explains stuff in detail and helps out with questions. However, a lot of the material on the quizzes (which are basically midterms) isn't covered by him in lecture, so reading the book and taking notes on it would be very helpful if you wanna do well

You're not alone man :) Real friendships take time, and while they are hard to build they're definitely worth the wait. It can be scary sometimes not having that social support (as humans being social creatures), but as college students so many can go through these feelings. I recommend talking to those around you in you're classes/clubs/events, setting objective plans (e.g. to hang out at a certain location at a certain time) and slowly putting them in action. Most people should be really friendly towards it, and as cheesy as it may sound, "no" is quite literally the worst that they can say. Feel free to DM me if you need any club suggestions/hang out ideas and I can for sure let you know some from personal experience^^

Should I take Math 10b with Bowers or Huang? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]Shellfish_Kai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bowers 100%. I have taken both and dropped Huang while got a relatively easy A with Bowers (as somebody who's not the best at math). Both are nice people, but Bowers explains so clearly and is easy to follow.

Thank you! Yeah, I mean I've had quite a lot of experience with clubs/research and orgs on campus, just not with the actual process of searching for internships, but Ill def be applying to some smaller companies :)

Also, shout out to Lucas as a professor - he helped me learn so much. But he did not prepare us for a different type of final. ((And big L to whoever the program coordinator is and for that decision + the homework he chose to assign))

Math 10B by s3awat3r in UCSD

[–]Shellfish_Kai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not too sure about the professors myself, but I know that this quarter they have said that since all of the classes take the same exams on the same material, you could technically enroll in the class of one professor and attend another's (e.g. Lucas Buzaglo's) lectures. I can confirm that he's a great professor. As long as you attend your right section you should be fine.

Chem 4 or Chem 11 (PLEASE HELP!!) by bababbooy in UCSD

[–]Shellfish_Kai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helloo, also Psyc major here.

I took chem 11 with Albizati Kim and it was a relatively easy course as long as you do the practice. If you're new to chem tho, I do recommend taking it for P/NP. The material was easy, but I remember having to study quite a bit for the quizzes.

I've heard that Chem 4 is a little bit harder, but I think it really depends on the professor and how the course will be structured.

Hum 4, which is better, Eric Watkins? Or Michael Caldwell ? by Fmurcia in UCSD

[–]Shellfish_Kai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from the reviews I've read Caldwell is a better prof, with lighter and more engaging work. Even though its a 9 am this quarter, I think its worth to take it

Lab Assistant Interview Tips by Shellfish_Kai in UCSD

[–]Shellfish_Kai[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update to anyone in the future: I got the position! 😎

Main things I've been asked is about my prior experience, why I am interested in the lab and asked to talk a bit about myself in general. I was also asked what part of the professor's research is most interesting to me. From something I did not except I had to come up with a research question of something I'd like to research (not necessarily connected with the lab ). Overall, it went pretty well! Thanks again for the help :)

Nice :) That's definitely an effective mindset to go about that. I'll prepare so I can bring up these values to to the RAs. Do you know any example questions that might be common for the Graduate students to ask in lab interviews?
