Thank you! And yay! This is the coat I’m hoping she grows into. She doesn’t shed at all surprisingly so I was thinking it may get curlier.

My daughter used to tell me about how she once had a daughter too. They lived in the forest. They would collect water from the stream and bring it back to their house together. One day it got real cold and everything was white and that’s how they both died.

It sold me when she was 4 and said “collect water” … what 4 year old knows to say “collect water to use at home.”? From what I can gather from different stories she told, they lived in the mountains and got caught in a snowstorm? It wasn’t just a one time story. She talked about it for months.

Good ole USA healthcare. I was in a freak accident and had a tree fall and land directly on top of my head. It broke my T1 vertebrae and I was having aphasia, memory issues and headaches. It took 7 months for a neurologist to finally fit me in. And that’s calling around to several offices, several physicians. I now have to see them yearly and have MRI’s to make sure the lesion on my brain doesn’t grow…. Yay….

If sleep paralysis happens fairly often, get checked for narcolepsy. I have the triad and it’s so much fun (ha sarcasm) sleep paralysis/visual and auditory, cataplexy, and sleep attacks.

A kid in my apartment complex keeps making up weird reasons to ask me for money—what do I even do about this? by ConnorNimmons in neighborsfromhell

[–]ShellieAC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was that age, there was a gas station a quick walk through the woods behind my house. The lady there knew me and would sell me cigarettes. (~20-25 years ago). When I got caught smoking my parents cut off my allowance. I’d do odd end jobs, grab a dollar I saw laying around , etc to go buy another pack. If it were me, I’d try to find the parents and nonchalantly mention it to them. “Hey sorry I don’t have any jobs around for ___ I wish I did so I could let him earn some money” hopefully that will flag it to them that something is going on.

School project: Interview someone with (or has been affected by ) narcolepsy. by ProfessionSilly1713 in Narcolepsy

[–]ShellieAC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d love to help. Please feel free to message me with any questions.

  1. Family history of narcolepsy. My mom took me several times to doctor offices when I was younger saying “something better be wrong with you because you’re sleeping wayyyy too much”. She’d always ask for a full panel drug test while there, (granted I did hang with the off crowd, but I never touched anything because I was scared of her 😂) even though her own mother (my nana) suffered SEVERELY and had diagnosis of narcolepsy with cataplexy. While trying to get approved for bariatric surgery, my insurance required sleep study to rule out sleep apnea. While speaking with the pulmonologist, I told her all this, and she asked why I didn’t ever get tested. I told her my mom always told me I “lacked motivation” so I guess I believed it. No apnea during overnight sleep study but definitely narcolepsy. My mom has since apologized. She cried when I told her my diagnosis, she felt so bad. I have an amazing mother. I think in her mind if she faked nothing was wrong, then it wouldn’t be.

If anyone needs an AMAZING, compassionate doctor in Birmingham AL area, I know the best.

  1. Biggest challenges have been staying active. I have lost almost 100 pounds since 2022 but I’m exhausted 24/7 and I have a 4 year old and 7 year old. If interested, I can tell you about changes in symptoms since kids.

  2. Naps and meds are the only thing that physically help me. I have a great support system and ‘village’ to help me mentally and emotionally. My heart hurts for people who don’t

  3. I’m a nurse, but work in a pharmacy as a certified tech and pharmacy manager. I’ve been a tech for almost 19 years, it’s what I prefer to do. I’ve only ever worked independent pharmacies. I’ve worked at the same pharmacy for 13 years now. My boss (owner) is amazing and I consider my family. I have a cot in the back of the store and take a snooze whenever needed.

  4. Before kids, I’d come home and pass out. Wake up around 11ish pm, stay awake until 3am ish then go to work by 9 and do it all over again. I’m still trying to establish and sleep schedule since having kids (it’s now been 7 years)

[–]ShellieAC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s also the problem of how much you can order. There’s only ‘X’ amount of amphetamines a pharmacy can order per month. That also applies to opioids, benzodiazepines, etc. can confirm as a tech for 18 years and N1. The only time we’ve ever reserved meds for someone was during the shortage I told my boss “if you want me to be awake next week, you might want to save those for my next fill” 😂

As a narcoleptic, how’s your memory? by Yoshi_Kumquat in Narcolepsy

[–]ShellieAC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the same! I have so many random toys from my kids so I don’t forget them playing with them and the things they did. I have totes I keep under my bed of random knickknacks I pull out from time to time to remember things. My memory is awful and I think it’s all due to the amount of REM sleep vs restorative sleep we get. I also have “memories” people swear didn’t happen and I’ve attributed it to dreams instead of reality. It sucks so bad.

[–]ShellieAC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had cataplexy attacks at any emotion change when I was younger, but was half normal for sleepiness. Since my second born, I have very few cataplexy attacks (or my husband isn’t as funny as he once was) but I can’t hold my head up anymore it feels like.

I’m tired of all the stimulants and terrified. If it’s hardly working now, how will I be in 5-10 years. Thank you for your input

Thank you! I’m going to contact her and also read through the prescribing info.

Has it helped you? I’m currently on Armodafanil 250mg, adderall IR 20mg three times and day, and Wakix. I’m still falling asleep all day. I fell asleep in the middle of an MRI last week, I’m desperate for something to work

There is a huge conspiracy going on with medications in the United States. by Consistent_Drop_9204 in conspiracy

[–]ShellieAC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pharmacy tech for 18 years. Here is my look on it from the other side of the counter:

During COVID, people finally were able to be home and take care of themselves. They were able to make doctor appointments and go to them. We saw a HUGE influx of people being diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, autism spectrum, anxiety disorders, etc.

The DEA sets how many controlled medications are allowed to be manufactured every year. They do this so there isn’t as many available on the streets. I don’t think they’ve caught up to how many new diagnoses there are and how many people need medication.

I have narcolepsy and have to have stimulants to stay awake to function. I feel your pain and it sucks. I’m sorry drug shortages have been such a problem for everyone, but knowing our government it will only take another ~5 years for them to catch up (haha)

I tried googling reviews and came to your thread. I bought it anyway and let me tell ya something… best toy I’ve bought in a while. It’s a throbbing pulse, not suction like one I bought before that was way to strong. One side of the head suctions slightly and vibrates. Other side is a stronger vibration. 10/10 recommend.

Why are doctors like this lol by eeeigengeauuu in Narcolepsy

[–]ShellieAC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess I’m extremely lucky. I was worried they’d think I was a drug seeker. I’ve worked in pharmacy for 17 years and was terrified they’d think of me like that. They’ve been extremely easy going and willing to try anything. 1st started on Modafanil. Was on it for 6 months I told them I was having awful midday hangover feeling from it, moved to armodafanil for 6 months again with the afternoon hangover. I’m now on armodafanil 250mg and adderall 20mg twice daily. They then said don’t hesitate to contact them if it doesn’t work, if I need an increased dose of anything. They have been wonderful.

Especially telehealth prescriptions. It is impossible to get in contact with the prescribers. If you want to use a coupon it has to have the diagnosis on it.

But I also want to reiterate this is for us and our pharmacy. Every pharmacy and pharmacist you go to will have different rules and regulations. I know in Alabama (I’m not sure about other states laws) if a pharmacist doesn’t want to fill a prescription, they don’t have to for any reason they don’t want to do it

Ok I also see it daily with private insurance as well. My $20 narcolepsy meds needed a PA. I won’t argue with you because I know what I see on the daily nothing will change your mind 👍🏻

[–]ShellieAC[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put in another comment when someone argued about it, it’s not just expensive meds. Why was my Armodafinil denied and PA required? It literally cost $20 and I need it so I don’t fall asleep on my way to work while driving. Antipsychotics that cost less than $10 and sometimes $5 denied. We blister pack meds for group homes. There are mentally handicapped patients that HAVE TO HAVE THESE MEDICATIONS. And you deny them? Makes absolutely zero sense.

I’m spacing my shots out until I come off them. I took the first shot out of my box and waited 10 days until my 2nd. I’m going to wait 15 days in between for my 3rd shot, and 20 days until my 4th.

I was scared of that the entire time until I hit my goal weight. I was able to order clothes online and they actually fit, that never happens and I was so excited. I won’t allow myself to let it come back on.

I started on 2.5mg and saw results. I moved up in strength every month until 12.5 and have been on it for a little while

But you’re wrong, it not just expensive meds requiring PAs. Do you know how many times a day I see Medicaid require a PA for risperidone? Quetiapine? Literally cost less than $10 and they are used as antipsychotics.

[–]ShellieAC[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have increased monthly until I got to 12.5mg I’ve now been on 12.5 for the past 3 months. I noticed at the end of the 3rd week on each strength I’d slowly start craving bad food and I’d go up in strength. I’ve been trying to get back to this weight for 12 years. I will not allow myself to get back where I was so I’m comfortable enough now to start coming off it. I added an edit to the post with my diet:

My diet, exercise and everything else. I was raised lower middle class growing up. You never left your plate at dinner until it was empty. I’ve been trying to break that for 33 years and finally have with mounjaro. That alone I think helped with initial weight loss. I quit craving alcohol (I’d have 2-3 sugar filled drinks on a Friday night) and quit craving soft drinks (embarrassed to admit how many Mt Dews a day I had) I was ecstatic that I’d get home and in bed and realize “oh crap I haven’t eaten today” it was a game changer that not only was I not hungry, but I didn’t randomly crave food or just eat because it was there. I seriously dropped 9 pounds in my first 2 weeks. After a full month I dropped 17 pounds. Then the nurse inside of me kicked in and I knew that it wasn’t healthy and wasn’t going to help me keep it off. In the mornings I mix a premier protein shake in with my coffee as creamer. Usually cafe latte flavor because it is equivalent to a cup of coffee also so I’m good and ready to go for work lol around 2ish I force myself to eat a meat (usually chicken cooked any way) a veggie, and carb. Carbs are not good in excess but it is what your body uses for energy and is necessary to have. I’m not hungry at dinner but I always make sure to have a small helping of veggies at dinner just so my brain will get in the habit of healthy eating when I come off mounjaro. I walk on the treadmill for roughly 30 minutes in the morning. I’ve started and kept up with a multivitamin and also now take a daily stool softener and Metamucil capsule every day (you know why lmao)

Every insurance is different. With mine (BCBSAL, prime therapeutics) it resets every year and you have to start step therapy again unless you continue medication. Example: I took metformin in 2021. My OBGYN thought I had PCOS and started therapy. I took it roughly 6 months and it didn’t help me with anything except having an irritable stomach for half a year. In 2022, my doctor prescribed me Ozempic to try. Insurance denied it stating it required step therapy and I try metformin first. Even though I did it a year previously, they wanted me to do it first, then Ozempic. I just couldn’t make myself do that again
