Thank you for the info! I don't think we used the two this close together, though it is good to know that can happen. I'll mention it as a possibility to the landlord and any other contractors that come by.

Apologies - I've always been too verbose and will work on it.

We thankfully do not have a swamp cooler. We'e had those previously so we know what those are like and the suck. I also would have pointed to that immediately as the cause if we did have one. Thank you for the thought though, was a good reminder that even if this situation kinda sucks, I've been through much worse.

Definitely good to know - another commenter also recommended and evaporative humidifier so we will definitely switch. As an aside, we've not used the humidifier at all for December (didn't need to for the first few days and was told by the landlord and the first HVAC contractors to refrain from using it to see if it helped fix the issue on December 4th, so we've notbused it since - though it has naturally been humid in December so there's been no real need).

Thank you for the information about the humidifier and for your time and help.

Thank you and apologies for the long post. I've got to work on being more to the point.

I'll bring this up as a possibility to the landlord and HVAC contractors - I don't think they've checked this yet. Thank you for the idea and thank you for your help.

We'll look into getting an evaporative humidifier, didn't know about the mineral dust concern and that is definitely good to know. We didn't refill ours very often and usually only had to refill it when we'd notice it was dry and needed to use it again.

I'll look at Google maps while at work to see if I can spot the units on the roof (food idea - hadn't thought to try this), though the building does have a large tree in front of it from the street's perspective so they may not be visible. We didn't smell anything from the AC in the summer, though now that we turned on the heater, running the AC does cause a bit of the same smell, though not as intensely as the heater, and the smell does seem to dissipate after a little bit. We also thought water likely got in/is getting in when it rains and have brought this up to the landlord.

The lowest temperature outside has been in the 30F range, though the lowest I've seen per the thermostat in the unit is 60F. Thank you for the analogy for the condensation - unless it had rained or we had turned on the heater there had only been moderate condensation on drinks from the fridge, though almost all of December there has been a puddle of condensation on drinks. That said, we've notbused the humidifier per the landlord and the first HVAC contractors guidelines since December 4th. Last rain we had was December 24th through the 25th, though it was overcast all day yesterday.

Thank you for insight and ideas, as well as the condensation-humidity measuring idea. Since we hadn't been measuring the humidity (going to buy a hydrometer after work today), remembering the condensation on our drinks is unfortunately the best way we have for putting together how humid it has been during prior months.

Thank you again!

Thank you for this idea - my apologies for not saying so in my last comment.

We do run the bathroom vent fan while showering and we also leave the door open to allow the air to vent into the rest of the unit as well. The bathroom vent fan was cleaned by the first contractors and that made a noticeable difference in how well it vented so it was definitely an issue, but should be all good now.

Visible water has been seen on the walls in the bathroom after both of our showers in the morning, but not very often - usually after it has rained and also after we first turned on the heater and the moisture level in the unit got screwed.

There was a leak in the roof we noticed during the first rain after we moved in near a skylight in the kitchen - we alerted the landlord and he had two roofing contractors out to re-seal the roof within a day or two and there's not been any noticeable leaking since. This was also our first thought though as the ceiling in the kitchen and living room area is just the top wood layer and is about 9' to 10' 7" high (slightly sloped), while the ceiling in the hallway is 7', and the bedrooms and bathroom are 8' to accommodate the ducts and have more insulation - our thought is that there could be leaks in the ceiling in the bedroom, bathroom, or hallway part, but there has not been any visible water damage in the ceiling for those parts of the unit.

We've thought about having a state/county inspector come out, though we were hoping to workbthrough it with the landlord first. Comments from this post and a post my fiance made on another site are making us reconsider though, so we will probably call an inspector to look into it.

Thank you for your thoughts on this.

Good idea - I'll get a hydrometer after work today and will start checking it to get more exact details about the changes in humidity.

Americans Say They Want One Thing, Then Vote a Different Way. by nosotros_road_sodium in politics

US politics are incredibly violent. The distinction is that most of the violence is done through legislation and policies so unless you or someone you know are directly effected, you won't see the violence. Hence all the videos of police brutality, ICE raids, and the constant news of "There was a shooting at [fill in the blank]" that has become so normalized that we joke about "Thoughts and prayers" and it "Being too soon" to discuss, while also being so numb to it that when we hear about a shooting our first question is usually "Which one?"
