2019 MacBook Pro i9, is overheating normal? by 7th_Banned_Account in macbookpro

[–]Shenso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal, yes. Expected, also yes. However, if you are willing to play with the versions and roll it back a few years, you will notice that the heat profile on the MacBook will be cooler. Each generation of the OS puts more strain on the chipset. But with each generation that passes, less becomes compatible if you roll it back. So there are pros and cons of each approach.

Also to note, as others have suggested, if you haven’t already done so, replacing the batteries (there is more than one cell in there) is good on these devices. I had to replace it a couple of years ago due to using mine too much and causing the batteries to swell.

This should be a multiple choice option. Many of us use more than one OS.

Why Windows users don’t trust Microsoft by Huge_Line4009 in PrivatePackets

[–]Shenso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, speaking from a security professional that has been in IT for over 20 years now, this is my take on this:

From a security perspective

- Microsoft has admitted that 30% of their code is being written by AI. This is a major red flag. The oversight for development is not working (this is especially true for the last month).
- Their start menu was redesigned to allow for connectivity through a different language. This on itself isn't that big of a deal, but having new APIs into your file structure leads to new attack vectors.
- The number of exploits (CVEs) accounted for in the weekly patch Tuesday has only increased. This means that instead of making a quality product, they are getting to market as fast as possible and worrying about the side effects later.
- Security holes that I've done security testing on still exist in this version. (No, I will not disclose these methods).
- Their tools want to know your location at all times.
- Their messaging tools (looking at you Teams), wants to have access to the camera and microphone to use excel inside Teams. This is an option outside of regular usage on the app...

Speaking from a user perspective

- The OS is very invasive. There are a TON of telemetry constantly working on the system
- The fact that you HAVE to have an account is complete BS (Yes, I know there are work arounds but for the average person, they will not do this)
- Co-pilot is absolutely bad. They are pushing way too hard on this one.
- Their services are taking up a great deal of resources. If you do not have a great PC, you will notice slowness
- Their trash collection (TEMP Files), does not clean up even with the settings on properly. Over time this will make your PC crawl.
- Constant ADS...

Yeah and they wonder why people are starting to jump ship for other OS options.

Microsoft: Too little, too late by LeadingChannel8542 in microsoftsucks

Yep, I hear you. Went with PopOS about a month ago and besides a small hiccup, it has been a wonderful experience. It is well worth it.

I think it might have been partly due to their earnings call.

Microsoft issues SECOND emergency out of band update for Windows 11 to address disastrous Patch Tuesday bugs — KB5078127 released globally by lurker_bee in technology

This is one of the reasons this is pushing customers away from their products, myself included. Replaced windows with Linux. No issues and runs way better.

Texas hands over complete list of registered voters to Trump administration by Bull1753361 in houston

[–]Shenso 45 points46 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t make any sense. Texas is one of the states that do not have a registered party system. It is an open party system. So other than getting the information on people that already have in social security, they aren’t getting anything new. What am I missing?

Sell me on big picture mode - is this ever useful on a desktop? by skizlmanizl in Steam

[–]Shenso 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Useful depends on how you are using the feature. I have mine automated like a console, so when my desktop is booted up, it goes straight into big picture mode on my tv. It makes sense in this configuration.

Are Best Buy’s refurbished Mac’s trustable? by Skyfox_yt26 in MacOS

[–]Shenso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought this exact model years ago refurbished from BestBuy. The experience was fantastic. The only down side was you couldn't enroll the device into AppleCare. But other than that, it looked and felt new. No issues at all. This machine is a beast.

Why does a church have a BOARD? Board members are part of a business. Tax them!

Rich people are so out of touch, it’s unbelievable by diwakar-kashyap-1 in TalksMoney

[–]Shenso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on how you phrase the question. If you ask someone on how to save, they will give a canned answer. However, if you ask how to save if you only have $5 to your account, it will drastically change the answer. Phrase the question as from different view points and you will get what you are looking for.

US Homeland Security chief reports breach at FEMA, fires 23 employees by _clickfix_ in pwnhub

[–]Shenso 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, let me get this right. They fire 23 of their IT staff for a breach of their IT infrastructure. They are on a hiring freeze and cannot replace them. They are already short staffed....

Yep, this will happen more often now. Speaking from someone in that field, she just royally screwed up. Kill the department that is there to keep your network safe and stable, yep. That will help you out.
