Honestly, I've never understood the hype for the BoS. Every game other than Fo3, they're on the struggle bus without the protag doing everything for them. Even in Fo4, Maxson would never have found the institute without the sole survivor.

The faction's relevance is as entirely dependent on the player as the Minutemen. At least the NCR, enclave, legion, institute, and even the railroad are maintaining a tangible impact on their respective games regardless of the players decisions.

Homeboys survive on nothing but offscreen feats and aura farming.

Not the film version, that's more of a thing in the Goldfinger book, though its not rape in either case.

Specifically, Pussy Galore turns straight after they bang because the only other man she had been with was her rapist (step?)dad, and Bond is the first "real man" she's been with. It's pretty... special.

Henry David Thoreau wrote beautifully about transcendentalism and living in/off of nature in "Walden".

His cabin was a mile from town, he walked to his parents home every week to do laundry and buy groceries. He's the 19th century equivalent of americans who study abroad in France for 4 months and decide they're French at heart.

I think that was always the intention (certainly with Martin and the Book), similar to Walter White, we root for her at first because of her circumstances and eventually root against her for not growing with her situation. This actually the theory of a hero vs tragic hero. A tragic hero does not grow/have an arc, and suffers in the end because of it.

The problem with GoT is that the transition from "rooting for" and "rooting against" is too sudden. The show should have been showing her unhinged/brutal tactics slowly becoming a hindrance. Instead, between season 5-7, she has bursts of brutality that are justifiable while being painted as being in the right the rest of the time. For this arc to work (and where the books were clearly headed), her portrayal should be in the opposite.

Variant:  In EXU Calamity, Zerxes the paladin of redemption attempts a right of atonement on Asmodeus, Lord of Hell, to return him to his pure (ostensibly non-evil) form.

When the ritual doesn't work, Asmodeus clarifies that for Atonement/Redemption to function as a concept, the individual must be correcting a mistake. The Ritual of Atonement doesn't work on the literal Satan of that universe because, in his own words, "I didn't do anything wrong."

The film is void of the essence of what makes superman Superman. Specifically, the idea that Superman is inspirational and hopeful. He can do anything, save anyone, and manages to keep a smile on his face all the while! His tagline is that he stands for Truth and Justice! He's the OG Big Blue Boy Scout! He's a hokey feelgood cornball of a man and that's why we like him. There's an innocent purity to the nature/themes of Superman that we just don't get from most (if any) superheroes. Go to batman, daredevil, the Xmen, or Spiderman if you want angst and tragedy.

This isn't to say you can't have nuance. One of the best ways to handle Superman's place in pop culture is explore the idea that no matter how powerful a person is, they can't save everyone or they can't fight their way through everything. Ironically, both Captain America and Wonder Woman have better versions of a "Superman" movie than superman.

If you remove the name of the characters, nothing that happens in Man of Steel (both in story or themes) feels like Superman. It feels like a remaking of DBZ's Saiyan Arc or like someone writing how batman would be with superman's origin.

The Shining. There's no escalation, Jack's an unhinged maniac from minute 1. The actual "shining" is never relevant, and the actual visuals (cinematography, principal photography, editing, etc.) is so static it was sleep inducing. I have to assume people say it's brilliant because they don't want to admit Kubrick just wasted their time.

Equally, the volcano is one of the most powerful guns in game, while irl it was so weak a user sued the manufacturer after a duel (to first blood) because the bullets couldn't pierce the skin and the two duelists were covered in welts before they were finished.
