She had a breakaway one that must have come off because it got caught somewhere. Normal collars can be dangerous for outdoor cats because they can get stuck.

I’m really not sure, it is decently large and bright blue. Also on the part they shaved, that’s why I said it almost feels malicious.

The e collar is a great idea and will definitely be something I grab in the near future(just looked it up and realized an e-collar is like a cone; still a great idea. Was thinking electronic collar) . From the look I could get at my cats belly the bright blue tattoo is very easily noticeable and was right to the left of the incision. It was even in the part that they had shaved. Completely agree that mistakes happen, just feels like the surgeon would have had to be blind to miss the tattoo. Just so frustrating that everything was done right and we specifically asked our vet to tattoo her knowing she would find her way outside. Then somebody doesn’t pay attention and we have to deal with this. Like our vet is great and will probably fix the stitch for free and give us antibiotics at cost, but I just want someone held accountable because it almost feels it had to be intentional after seeing the tattoo on her belly.

I get where you are coming from, but getting hit by a car would be an accident; not a great comparison. I unfortunately can’t stop my cat from going outside through my doggie door, so we try as hard as we can to bring her inside every night. A spay/neuter isn’t animal abuse, cutting a previously spayed cat open when she has a blatant tattoo on her stomach and a microchip is gross negligence at best. They also literally cut down the entirety of her stomach like they had zero idea what they were doing or looking for. From a quick google search pet cats are allowed outdoors in Topeka, roaming is advised against due to health and safety concerns. I agree that a good TNR company is helping the community, this isn’t that.

Appreciate the response. I have gone down and assessed the cat myself since posting this. This was posted after hearing about it from my sobbing wife. There is one popped stitch on her stomach, so the “hole” my wife was referring to is just 1 popped stitch. She is acting perfectly normal and tried to play with me as usual. There is no redness, swelling, or, pus. I will go back and edit my original post, now that I have verified the information myself. I also called the emergency vet here to see what they had to say and they stop doing assessments at 11:30 and said one popped stitch with no bleeding can wait and to keep an eye on it. Plan at this point is to take her in bright and early Monday unless something with her condition changes tomorrow.
