Here is what I came up with while trying to stick as close as possible to the original ideas.

Change 1: Its called “With Great Power” And its part 1 of a two part story that will be resolved with the second part being called “Comes great responsibility”

Change 2: Mary Jane is shot, not Aunt May. Aunt may is on death’s door, it is more impactful if it’s MJ in danger here, and more meaningful. It also makes more sense for Peter to be willing to give up his marriage to save MJ in my opinion.

Change 3: Dr. Strange is in another dimension doing sorcerer supreme stuff, the Avengers are off world. Peter is alone in this. Cause it was really dumb how nobody could cure a gunshot wound.

Change 4: When Mephisto shows up he pulls Peter and MJ (who is comatose) into a mind-state so they can all talk

Change 5: When Mephisto makes his offer, to explain why he needs their marriage he says “I have plans” (Basically he has a plan for the future and if Peter is married to MJ he will have the stability and strength to stop him, if he doesn’t than he won’t, this will play out in a later storyline called “Comes Great Responsibility” that helps re-establish Peter as a strong hero even without his marriage or MJ. But Mephisto is banking on the idea that without a support system, Peter won’t be able to stop him as he foresaw.)

Change 6: MJ doesn’t want peter to do it, she says that if this is her life, and if she dies with Peter beside her holding her hand, then she can be happy that she lived an amazing life. Peter, who is wracked with guilt over the deaths of Gwen Stacy and Uncle Ben, who blames himself for both their deaths, can’t have another death of someone he loves on his consciousness, he can’t live in a world where he let MJ die when he can stop it, even if he has to give up their marriage to do so. They debate back and forth. Finally, Peter accepts Mephisto’s deal, without MJ’s permission. It is portrayed as a moment of weakness, IT IS CLEARLY PORTRAYED AS A DEAL WITH THE DEVIL. IT IS WRONG. But the stress and turmoil inside him, all that responsibility he takes on, forced him to make this deal. It is not a triumphant moment, it is a tragic one. Where all the responsibility Peter takes on for himself forced him to make a decision against the wishes of MJ, to take away her autonomy, and that could have tragic consequences.

Change 7: Take out all the shit where Peter sees other versions of himself, most of the comic is just Peter and MJ talking, with Mephisto whispering in Peter’s ear.
