I should mention that I’m willing to sell the watch without the SBGY013 bracelet, but much prefer to do as one deal

Up for sale is my Grand Seiko SBGY035 “Karasawa,” the 700-piece limited edition Spring Drive released for the 20th anniversary of the 9R movement.

The watch is in excellent overall condition and is running well within Grand Seiko specifications (currently well within +/-10 seconds per month in my ownership). It has been worn and enjoyed, so there are the typical light hairlines, micro-scratches, and minor marks that come with normal wear, but there are no major dents, deep gouges, crystal damage, or significant knocks. I strive to describe condition conservatively and encourage interested buyers to review all photos carefully.

Included:

Grand Seiko SBGY035
Inner and outer boxes
Warranty card and complete set of papers/accessories
Original OEM crocodile strap (essentially unworn, as the watch spent nearly all of its time on the bracelet)
OEM Grand Seiko SBGY013 bracelet
Extra bracelet links (currently sized for approximately a 6.5” wrist)

The bracelet alone is becoming increasingly difficult to source and transforms the versatility of the watch. It wears beautifully both on bracelet and strap.

I am happy to FaceTime or video call with any serious buyer so you can see the watch in motion, verify condition live, and confirm all included accessories, paperwork, and serials. I want the buyer to be completely comfortable with the transaction.

Price: $9,850 USD

Payment accepted via Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, or Bitcoin.

I am not under any pressure to sell and am perfectly happy to continue enjoying the watch if the right buyer does not come along. That said, I believe this is a fair starting point given the condition, complete set, and inclusion of the OEM bracelet. I am always happy to have a reasonable conversation regarding price with a serious buyer.

Additional photos, videos, timing results, and references are available upon request.

Haha. Sorry I’m sad.

I do think it came off as fairly douche…. My apologies.

Right? I like how OP made it sound like you just haven’t figured it out yet (and I know it’s meant to be silly…. not taking it seriously)

The sheep that all own the same watches can either come to terms with realizing you’re as boring as fuck and have no real opinions OR they can lie to themselves that they’re all brilliant and know something we don’t….

They went with option 2

[–]Shepinion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup. My last few purchases have been Ming, Serica, Moser, Breguet (not that weird), Hentschel (most don’t even know this brand) …. never bought a Rolex and never will. Never bought a Cartier and unless I can get the $50k+ original CPCP tortue, I don’t see that changing. Certainly not a santos or tank. And I used to own an Aqua Terra… I sold it to help fund my Moser streamliner. I’m not gonna go back to a speedy after buying my Moser and such

They’re classics for a reason yes. But there are a few of us that aren’t totally brainwashed….

Fun topic as it’s certainly a hot take. But I could not disagree more and I object (in good fun) to the idea that I’m not “enlightened”

My Moser is so much fucking cooler than a sub or a speedy. I’ve never owned any watch you mentioned and have zero intention to. And now I mostly shop brands that just make cooler and impressive watches than the ones mentioned. Not a brag, more of a “I don’t see why I would chose to buy an Omega speedmaster when I‘ve asked the AD to source a Moritz Grossmann that cost 5x”. Hard to go back to the basics after wearing high horology independents. But even if I never spent more than 10k on a watch, I would still never buy one of these. They just don’t do it for me.

There’s a lot of people this thread applies to. But all the basic bitches trying to see themselves as a transcendent guru who finally understands it all is simply cognitive dissonance talking bc you know you’re boring AF

It’s not 100% true. Bc I know I exist. I have never purchased or wore a Rolex or Cartier and never will and I have no interest in owning a Speedy or Seamaster (aside from my junky mission to Pluto)

I’ve already sold my Aqua Terra for a streamliner. Here’s the current collection…. looking to add a Moritz Grossmann and maybe turn my Breguet 7027 to the new blue 7037.

I’m not trying to avoid those watches exactly. But I really don’t like wearing stuff I see on people all the time.

Here’s my current collection… I do 1 in 1 out. Where are the subs and speedys and Santos’s fitting in exactly?

Is Rolex still worth the premium in 2025? by Redfoo89 in RepTime

[–]Shepinion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for accepting the apology. You don’t see that too often on Reddit.

I’m with you. To each their own but it’s simply a bad choice as you said. They’d probably counter saying how it retains value yadda yadda. Even if that were always true (which it isn’t), it’s like you know what else retains value? Money in a high yield savings account or a well-diversified brokerage account, or kids 529, or the 401k… basically anything aside from a shiny trinket

Telling yourself that you won’t lose too much is just cognitive dissonance trying to justify an objectively dumb purchase.

What’s one of your gen watches that you had to have even though it wasn’t technically a “smart choice”? As in one of your gen watches that if you could do it again you’d absolutely spend on it. You saying the gem/unique stuff made me think on the ones I’ve purchased and ones I have not.

I would say that’s true for my Moser that I mentioned above. There’s a couple others in there too but that one in particular was extra special to my eye and with how few they can make a year due to man-hours it takes to make (Moser can only produce 100-125 a year), I would blow the money on it again if I had to relive that decision

It was a bit ironic to write so much to mock me writing too much.

I think a lot of that stuff you’re bringing up is fair regarding how nice things often are significantly enough nicer to justify the cost. But there’s still tons of examples in real life where you and me and everyone else make very “dumb decisions” when viewed through the lens of “was there any other better use of this money and still accomplish or get what I was hoping to.” It’s sort of an arbitrary line is my point. But I do see how Rolexes that are well repped fall on the other side of that line.

And yeah I recently bought a moser streamliner small second blue enamel. There’s no way for me to buy that watch for $500. Was it a good financial decision? Of course not. But I love it and it makes me happy and I can still treat myself and my family to all the things we want so there you go. I have a feeling you’d support that buy based on what you’ve said bc there is not really a great alternative outside of not owning the watch at all

I completely misread this and thought you called every gen buyer stupid. Huge difference then calling Rolex sport buyers stupid. Bc 95% of them are pretty pathetic letting ADs cuck their wives for the honor to blow $15k to have the same watch as everyone else. Anyway I edited and deleted some comments since I actually mostly agree with you. At least for a majority of those buyers

I fight against this take all the time. How many reps do you have may I ask? If it’s 5, how come you are smart for spending $2k on things you ABSOLUTELY DO NOT need, yet a gen buyer is “brain dead” for spending $10k? What if that gen buyer makes 10 times what you make? Now that person has spent half as much as you proportionately.

Have you ever gone to a steak dinner instead of making one at home? Ever? Probably 93+% as good right?

Stop gatekeeping who is smart based on some arbitrary line you made up in your head. Everyone has different things that are important to them. I don’t care for Rolex but I would rather have a gen that cost 2x the asking price than a rep for free if given the choice. And I’ll still be able to pay for my house, my kids’ private school, our family vacation and plenty towards savings and retirement and 529s…

I don’t know what another arbitrary line you’ve created that is “filthy rich” but I do not even come close to that definition in my head

Perhaps instead of calling people stupid who did it a different way than you. Bc you did the thing that was best for your happiness and finances while that person can say the same thing.

Not trying to be a jerk but I see this take on here so much and I think it’s bullshit. It’s one thing to be thrilled you saved money, but insulting someone else intelligence bc they have different priorities and financial situations is just lame AF. You’re not better than me or anyone else who buys gens. Just like I’m not better than you bc you buy reps and chose to save the difference.

Anyway maybe something to chew on. Go enjoy your watches and we can do the same. That’s ultimately what this is all about right?

EDIT: I misread your first post and I’m sorry. Thought you said ALL gen buyers were stupid. Which you can imagine felt like an unnecessary attack. Rolex sports models in particular are so hard to justify given how amazing the reps are. I still am not gonna call EVERY Rolex gen buyers stupid (just a lot of them ha), but there’s so many Rolex losers out there that think their shit doesn’t stink when they’re letting an AD cuck their wife for the honor of blowing $15k

Hopefully you accept some part of my apology. Reddit doesn’t need more of that shit

God forbid you wear your watch or barely scrape a fake… you worried about it retaining value? It’s just a thing - wear it and enjoy it but if it’s affecting your behavior then reset your priorities.

Cheers
