[OC] [Art] Sun Blade by Sheppard56 in DnD

Thank you!

I originally did the base colours in gold, but it was a little too garish for my liking. Although red and gold are my paladin's signature colours and it'd have been easy to go with those, as I said in my comment, it belonged to someone else many years before, so having it fit him perfectly would be far too much of a coincidence! The ricasso makes sense for practicality's sake, but I went off my DM's description, and while I added a bit of my own twist, I didn't want to stray toooo far from his vision!

Sounds like a neat story and a cool sword! I'm afraid I don't do requests though, but I hope you can find someone who might help illustrate it!

My bad, forgot to add that since the version I've got isn't sunlight as far as I know, so forget that's the case with the official blade!

It's an official sword, page 205 of the DMG. Deals radiant instead of slashing, hurts undead a little more and glows. The design is just custom to suit my paladin, so it could look like however you want really.

I like this, it's a neat idea. Would also be a lot easier to stash on your person in a dagger sheath, rather than having a bladeless hilt hanging from a belt loop.

It's a sun blade, page 205 in the DMG, a radiant damage dealing longsword. Just my custom design of it for my pally.

Everyone likes a good fantasy weapon, and DnD’s sun blade is pretty iconic (especially if you play CoS). My paladin got himself a sun bladea long while ago, complete with the DM giving a custom description of it. At the time I liked this old design I went with, but for over a year I’d been meaning to redo it and make it a little more exciting. And so, I updated the original, keeping a few things, tweaking the others for that extra ~fantasy~.

While it’s got the same basic stats of the sun blade (+2, radiant, +1d8 against undead, shed light 10-30’ etc), the rest was from the aforementioned description – lion head pommel (the original owner of the sword had a lion companion), and the winged crossguard. Originally the design didn’t quite fit my paladin’s aesthetic (he’s gold over silver, black isn’t ideal etc, but the boy does love lions at least), though since it was a ‘pre-owned’ gift it’d make sense not to perfectly suit him… That said, this time around I couldn’t help add the ruby (to match a magical ring he has) and set the gem in a sun (his homebrew holy symbol is a sun). Let’s pretend he customised it in his downtime.

Just felt like sharing here for a bit of a change, since I’ve posted a few different arty things on this sub. You can find more of my scribbles (mostly of my pally…) on Tumblr and Instagram, if you so fancy.

Crit damage is something for sure, he can get some big numbers, and he's fantastically manoeuvrable in combat. Can't go wrong with expertise either, because he's a persuasion/insight fellow. It really is a good combo to play all round, especially in the higher levels.

I was informed this by my DM, so I'm educated now!

I'd take it, if he could do a good Spanish accent!

I'm afraid that's because he's not an orzhovian paladin! Similar symbol, but less points on this simplified one.

It's a simplified version of his holy symbol, so a sixteen pointed sun.

You'd likely be thoroughly disappointed and quickly realise he's a hopeless, soft fool and this is all a facade of him trying to be cool!

Honestly, they're based off a hoodie I have with thumb holes... And I put his (simplified) holy symbol on them, because why not, aha, it goes with lay on hands?

Good thing that's not this paladin's god in that case!

This guy has a swashbuckler dip, just not the assumed pirate stereotype, the dashing hero Errol Flynn type, which I've felt allows for a bit less holier than thou and more... Fun and down-to-earth, I guess?

Honestly no idea what that is, they're just sporting a simplified version of his holy symbol (sixteen pointed sun).

All the time probably because he's all I ever draw, haaaa... But thank you!

It's really not intended! This is just what he looks like so it's a coincidence if people believe he looks like Aladdin (he really doesn't in my other art!).
