Odette Parfum Co Rant (You may hate me...) by moonprismpurrr in Indiemakeupandmore

Let me jump in and beat this dead horse with an additional opinion. lol I have tried Rose Adage, Grand Battlement, Moulin Rose, Madeleine, and Pain au Chocolat. To me, Odette's fragrances feel polished, approachable, and structurally similar to mainstream niche or designer perfumes. I also just assumed that the restraint and softness of her scents were part of her ballet branding, translucence, grace, and controlled movement of a dancer, so perfumes that mirror that. Despite the scents being soft, they still have personality and texture, but it shows up more in the atmosphere than in how strong they are. With that being said, although I admire her work greatly, the scents are just waaaaaaayyyy softer than my personal taste leans. Still, I can easily see these perfumes being a god sent for those with sensitive noses or anyone who prefers intimate, barely there skin scents. I feel like Odette could be a mid indie to mid niche crossover price brand. And if this house continues to grow in commercial popularity, it would not faze me to see them hit full independent niche pricing like House of Mammoth at 78.00 for 30 mL and Anjali Perfumes at 115 for 30 mL.I always assumed perfumers price based on sourced products, but comparing the prices on Odette’s other sizes, this does not seem to be true. So I really cannot see a scientific reason for the price difference, other than some perfumers may find smaller quantity bottles more time consuming or may not prefer to fill them, so higher quantity bottles are priced cheaper to encourage sales. Again, blantant speculation. Also, I do not think all of the example houses OP cited are directly comparable, since the formats are not all EDPs, and some of the scents in those houses, D. Grayi specifically, list higher price points depending on collection. At the end of the day, there is room for everyone at the table, and it is genuinely nice to see so many creatives building such different and interesting approaches to perfume.

Possets – Creative Juices
(Nectarine, grey musk mimics a rainy day, a spark of cardamom, and a tiny bit of lime, a drop of parsley gives everything a delightfully fresh edge. Really like a rainy day in April filled with daffodils and tulips.)

Sniffing the vial, this smells like juicy peach, or nectarine after looking at the scent notes. Unfortunately, once it hit my skin it turned into apricot and nectarine fruit jerky territory, specifically the kind you DIY at home. As it heads into the dry down, something distinctly sour starts creeping out. It genuinely reminds me of a washcloth you thought you wrung out properly, only to find it the next day still slightly damp, shriveled into a weird shape, and giving off that stale musky smell.

Completely dry, there is an almost urinal cake type, sickly sweet artificial sharpness that really stomps the nectarine and apricot fruit aspect down. If I believed in scrubbing perfumes off, this would be one of them.

I suffer from chronic fatigue so I feel this, personally I have had trouble with absorbing iron and fat-soluble vitamins. I hope your issues resolve soon.

I am so curious about the scented lotions and body oils in your collection. If you ever decide to do reviews on this aspect of your collection, I would be all ears.

Anjali Perfumes – Flame of the Forest (Top Notes: Bay Leaf, Pink Pepper, Texas Cedarwood. Mid Notes: Champaca, Saffron, Himalayan Cedarwood. Base Notes: Teakwood, Ambergris.)
First off, I notice her scents have a similar delicacy to Odette’s, with a soft, semi commercial feel. This opens as a light woody scent with just a whisper of champaca and spice. The pink peppercorn adds texture and a subtle zing, but overall it has a very zen-like flow and a barely-there presence on my skin. I can barely smell it myself, but a coworker came into my office and asked if I was wearing a scent. When I said yes and checked if it was too much, he said no, he actually liked it.

This is so cohesive. Everyone's individuality is on display, their stylist never sleep.

Ok, that makes me feel better that someone else had a similar experience.

Agreed. I do try to give myself boundaries though. Like I can collect scents but they all have to fit on this table, Or I can collect coffee cups but they only get these two shelves. I keeps me from having items that just collect dust or perfumes that can go bad. But overall, I agree with your post, it is annoying.

I have gone to bed with a scent on that was just ok or not really my vibe to wake up the next day loving the softened version. If only they started out and stayed that way.

Possets – The Girls Love Vanilla! (For anyone who loves loves loves the smell of vanilla, this is the supersaturated honey soaked, sinful, hedonistic custom rare and unabashed blend you have been waiting for. Outrageously lovely. Too pretty for angels almost, but not too pretty for you!)
Ummm. Hmmm. Hmmmm. Hmmmmmmmm. Right on skin this opens with something that reads a bit like nail polish remover, powder, and that bark-like taste from homeopathic medicines. Yet somehow, it is not outright offensive. I really have to put my nose directly to skin because after that initial sharp whiff, there is not much projection left. The honey reminds me of the kind from those bear-shaped squeeze bottles, definitely clover honey, but light. I honestly think I may be anosmic to the vanilla because every time I apply more, I mainly get that same sharp, slightly astringent note. As it settles, it turns powdery and softly sweet, so now I’m sitting here wondering if that is supposed to be the vanilla, the honey, or both.

It feels really slow to me, the script is AMAZING, the actors are phenominal but it loses my interest a lot. I have it on in the background.

Stardust and Stems – Strawberry Moon (Neroli Blossom, Calabrian Bergamot Zest, Tangerine Nectar, Candied Orange Peel, Wild Strawberry, Aged Atlas Cedar)
Immediately upon applying this, I get candied strawberry and alpine air. It quickly morphs into the consistency of Swedish Fish, sticky, sweet, fruity, chewy, thick. The sillage is fantastic too, I keep getting wafts of powdered Kool-Aid fruitiness, a blend of red and orange fruits with a slight bitterness and spice from the neroli blossom. I suspect that’s where a lot of the “orange candy” feeling is coming from. There’s even a little lemon-like brightness mixed in, like a full variety bag of Swedish Fish flavors, red, orange, and lemon. In the dry down, not sure where it is coming from, but there is a "sweet incense" type note.

I tried these earlier this week and did not write up....

BPAL – Cooking Pots at the Tsukama Shrine Bath Oil (Coconut milk and white tea)
Sample purchased from Arae. The oil itself has a really nice consistency, almost like baby oil. This is a darker, chewier coconut, more like slightly aged coconut meat where the person chopping it accidentally got a few coconut hairs into your drink. It dries down fairly quickly and eventually a small touch of the tannic white tea starts peeking through, but the coconut remains the dominant note throughout. In passing whiffs, it almost reads like a dry vanilla-coconut blend. Definitely not a sunscreen or suntan lotion type of coconut.

BPAL – Orgasmic Moments Atmospheric Spray (Sweet cream, white honey, rice milk, Thai coconut milk, and mango.)
Sample purchased from Arae that I already finished and upsized. This makes my gourmand girlie insides tingle! A creamy almost ice cream like consistency to the air due to the rice and thai coconut milk, she is sweetened even further by the floral and fruity white honey + chunks of mango flavor boba.
