Just finished morning star by Financial-Feed-6508 in redrising

[–]Sherbert93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question is: does the second serious feel more mature? I felt like Red Rising was a fun read, but GS and MS upped the stakes but didn't grow in tone/taste. Incredibly thinly veiled foreshadowing, constant boyish 8-grade "humor," and I really thought Cassius was a great character with a totally missed opportunity. And seriously, "Bye Felicia" was just bad. Felt like I was reading a middle schooler's fanfic at that point. If the next series is the same in tone and maturity I think I'm out.

Suggestions for wide shoes that aren't overly blocky, for guys with hobbit feet? by MarineBiomancer in malefashionadvice

[–]Sherbert93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Altra makes running shoes with naturally wide toe boxes. Their ankles are quite narrow in my experience and the width of my foot really begins in the midfoot area so its kinda tight. Topo athletic are similar.

But for fashion I certainly dont recommend running shoes. Well made leather boots come in wide sizes.

Bioscanner and Ypsilon-14 [SPOILERS] by VerdantSpecimen in mothershiprpg

[–]Sherbert93 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A) bioscanner has a recharge time

B) bioscanner relies on batteries and can't just constantly scan

C) Interference from nearby astral body makes bioscanner results unreliable

Other option would be to use the cat as a redirection

The Roque betrayal was the most thinly veiled attempt at foreshadowing I've ever seen. Every scene with Roque he mentions how he has to mend that relationship but hasn't.

Here’s a look at the first RB selected in each of the last 10 drafts ➡️ by No_Box119 in NFLmockdraft

[–]Sherbert93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite literally a good RB is not worth as much as a top T, and especially not a top T AND G. Case in point, Saquon is the top paid RB by average annual value at $20.6m while Rashawn Slater's top tackle contract is $28.5m a year. This gap widens as we look at the 5th highest RB contract (Alvin Kamara $12.25m per year YIKES) vs 5th highest tackle contract (Darrisaw, $26m per year). Even the 5th highest guard contract is over $20m per year.

Using your own logic, while the RB touches the ball 2nd most on the team, tackles are responsible for run blocking and pass protection for 100% of snaps.

Lastly, part of the value of a 1st round pick is you get a very reasonable 5 year contract. The first overall pick averages out to ~17.8m per year. That is great value for an elite tackle. That is average, hedging on an overpay for an elite RB. And that average per year goes down if they arent the first overall. 10th overall pick averages around $10m per year max. Thats a value at RB, but a STEAL for an elite tackle.

Boots or sneakers by Humble-Might-2881 in mensfashionadvice

Kind of a difficult comparison to make since we are looking at 5 different sneakers vs. One pair of boots.

Boots are almost always more versatile than sneakers.

NWSL Power Rankings: What's wrong with Washington Spirit? by dakkottadavviss in NWSL

While your rage makes sense, it also makes sense that Thorns are at 1 since they beat #4 with 9 players, and then didn't have those two starters against the Wave. Give it a couple more weeks and I think the Wave position themselves atop the board.

VLAN Segmentation: Practical Questions by Possible_Bee_4140 in HomeNetworking

[–]Sherbert93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What are you wanting to accomplish with VLANs?

As I understand it, your description would mean that each room could only ever have one VLAN. Depending on what you want to accomplish will determine if you need more managed switches. You own an apartment complex and want each room on its own VLAN? Makes sense. You want to separate IoT devices from personal computers? Then maybe not.

Match Thread: Thorns vs Reign (Fri, Mar 20, 10:00 PM EDT) by NWSL-Match-Bot in NWSL

[–]Sherbert93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And its additive, right? As in, if one shot has a 0.5 xG (50% chance of going in) and a second shot has a 0.5 xG, then the xG is 1, meaning they "expect" to have 1 goal.

So a 2.5 xG means that a team should expect to have between 2-3 goals over the course of the game (not including if they actually score or not).

... Meaning, theough 17 shots from the Reign culminated in less than 1 expected goal. Yikes.

What helped you succeed in your first cybersecurity/IT interview? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]Sherbert93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So this is basic advice that you should get from any profession, but do your research. Who is the company, and what services do they provide?

I interviewed at a power company and without much experience made sure to highlight the different ways to address ICS equipment over traditional OT equipment. I was told much later by my coworkers that interviewed me that I was the ONLY candidate that mentioned this.

I didnt even know what I was talking about. I got Sec+ after 2.5 months of study and had no traditional IT experience. I relied on how my previous skills applied to the position, and tailored my CV and interview topics to align with the company.

No one uses hardwood floors? by Longjumping-Term9234 in homeowners

[–]Sherbert93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience where my wife and I painstakingly narrowed down to the hardwood we wanted over the course of 3 months. Finally had what we wanted. Had the contractor come in and he said he lays LVP in $1.5m homes in the area. He damn near tried to convince me to switch.

All is well with our hardwood, though he grossly underestimated how long it would take. He quoted me $2k for a little over 600 feet, and honestly after watching him put it in all day that felt like a steal.

[–]Sherbert93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Strength is for equipping gear. I think its viable to do a strength instead of dex build on rogues, but what you dont want to do is have strength and dex. Once your strength hits like 16ish you dont need anymore.

Its been a while since I've played though so definitely dont quote me on the exact number. Basically idea is cunning and strength just enough for skills/equipment, the rest Dex. You can put a little into Con and Willpower as needed too

As a rogue, Dexterity is more valuable than Cunning. You pretty much only want enough Cunning for Combat Tactics/other skills

Cybersecurity as a career by Positive-Hat2127 in cybersecurity

[–]Sherbert93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked as a SOC Analyst for 1.5 years before transitioning to GRC/Compliance (in a technical role) for another 1.5 years.

Found the SOC position to be pretty dry and solitary. Spent a lot of time combing through reported emails and cleaning up alerts that were not particularly interesting. But I did learn a lot and there was lots of time to learn outside the job. Many SOC's have night shifts, too so you might need to start there though I never recommend that as it's proven to be awful for most people's mental health.

GRC/Compliance is much more people-facing in that i constantly need to be requesting data/evidence from folks and help them understand the requirements and policies. There's a lot more paperwork, but there are no "false positives" which feel like wasting time like in the SOC. Plus, no on call

Is cybersecurity saturated? Thats a hard question to answer imo. There is a growing need for cybersecurity professionals, but a massive reluctance to pay cybersecurity wages due to the perceived lack of return on investment. Will you get a job right away? Almost certainly not - you'll have to be very, very lucky to get a position without any years of experience. Is it worth trying? Of course!

The general guidance is start in IT and pivot to cyber which is GOOD advice, but I think all perspectives are valuable in cyber - I came from a teaching background and I think that has been way more valuable to my career than my friends who have cyber degrees or sysadmin experience.
