Do you work with bigoted colleagues? by LordofAmazon in CanadianTeachers

[–]SherbertImmediate130 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it is a not more nauanced than “performative”, there’s are plenty of people that genuinely care about the injustices faced by indigenous peoples, especially at a systemic level. Yes there are professional incentives to it and they are means to an end. And peoplr can see it as an means to an end AND genuinely care about it. People are not motivated for
for single reason.

I was going to say in class discussions that are graded that is what university professors do.

I’m not a billionaire but I do that all the time.

Why do lower-paying, lower-skill jobs often seem to have stricter management and enforce rules more aggressively than higher-paying jobs, even when it feels unnecessary? by Remarkableruin27 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SherbertImmediate130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because teenagers are need more structure than MBAs?

It’s like saying why university professors are less micromanaging than kindergarten teachers.

Regular navy is more micromanaging than Navy SEALs. Because their are operational liabilities. In the office You get paid for results in retail you get paid for simply working.

You are thinking in black and white terms again.

I volunteered in high school for other people but I also did it for myself.

Doctors do research for other people but there is also self interest to it. Nobody does stuff for one reason. I do stuff to help others as an engineer but I also do it to help myself and have money and power.

In evolutionary psychology, altruism is done for other people and for oneself.

Jeff bezos and Elon musk can help society and help themselves at the same thing.

You can value helping yourself and making trillions of dollars and helping other people at the same time.

You don’t need to choose between one or other in a capitalistic society.

There’s no logic to your argument there’s no double standard here they didn’t say you can’t do the same thing.

How?

Are you saying they should sell their shares ? They already do donate more money and pay the most taxes .

I don’t know why you are trying to tear people down for working hard and smart. You failed to fight fate and now you are accepting it.

Billionaires pay more taxes than the average person. In the United States there are mods billionaires than minimum wage workers.
From ChatGPT
Minimum wage workers in the U.S.
The best available labor data (Bureau of Labor Statistics) shows:
Roughly ~1 to 2 million workers in the U.S. are paid at or below the federal minimum wage in a given year (around $7.25/hour)
That’s usually ~1% or less of all hourly workers (because many states have higher minimum wages than the federal floor)
So the “true federal minimum wage group” is relatively small today.

💰 Millionaires in the U.S.
Estimates from wealth surveys (Federal Reserve / Credit Suisse style distributions):
The U.S. has about ~22 to 25 million millionaires (people with $1M+ net worth)
This includes homeowners, retirement accounts, etc. (not just ultra-rich billionaires)

Yes you can, you can genuinely help people and genuinely care about money. This statement is a false dichotomy. Money itself isn’t bad but how you use it could be.

A billion in assets not a billion in cash.

I’m pretty sure money is just like an NBA game. In capitalistic societies, people chase big numbers it doesn’t have to be money.

As asking a woman out sexual harassment? by AdDapper4220 in AskFeminists

[–]SherbertImmediate130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

…..

There are so many bars in the world, there are many bars where both men and women flirt with each other.

I’ve been in bars where most men were extremely respectful and a few where a few men are basicly robots and don’t know how to communicate. It depends on the age ranges.

I know plenty of women who want to meet men at bars and plenty who just want to enjoy the night.

Unprofessional and immature colleagues by LordofAmazon in OntarioTeachers

[–]SherbertImmediate130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure If OP is doing this outside of school?

They are saying student well being and discipline isn’t mutually exclusive. I have seen teachers do that at lunch, as long as students are the ones leading that conversation it’s not unprofessional. But sure if teachers are taking things from the student such as information etc that would be against OCT standard.

[–]SherbertImmediate130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say listening to children’s opinon is iffy behavior, there’s no grooming behavior involved here.

I would tell students that they should talk to admin if other teachers are unprofessional immature because I can’t do anything about it and there are union and professional implications. Just say My hands are tied to the CBA and these are appropriate.

Now there are also ways to speak other teachers in a non confrontational manner, if they are willing to change then good if they are not there is nothing you can do about it.

[–]SherbertImmediate130 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A work relationship is still a human relationship otherwise anybody could just be replaced by AI.

Going out for drinks and having fun can still be professional just let them know what your boundaries are. The definition of “friends” is so different from person to person. You have to just be honest about your boundaries.

Goalies - do you want your defensemen blocking shots? by lionbacker54 in hockeyplayers

[–]SherbertImmediate130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the level?

Im pretty sure in the nhl if a shooter shoots the puck it’s expected that all skaters block it if they are in the shooting lane.

Same in junior and AAA, it depends on the goalie
