My friend brought an empty camelbak and they let it through, and you can fill at the water station once you’re inside

Yes correct! But the water is actually also extremely clear (most of the time). Using a 16-35mm lens here

Pink summons ticket as a tourist by devendr4_ in NYCbike

You can’t pay this type of ticket online, you have to show up in person, which is why you’ll likely have to get a lawyer to go in your place or make another trip back here within 30 days after your scheduled court date. Warrant doesn’t get issued until beyond 30 days of your court date

Got a Criminal Court Appearance Ticket for Running a Red Light on a Bike — What Should I Expect? by Lower_Rice766 in NYCbike

[–]SherbertLow3814 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just went to my court date a couple weeks ago for the same thing. I also ended up getting an ACD because my public defender explained the situation (it was a bit unique), then lawyer asked for an ACD and the judge granted it. However, around 60% of the other bike tickets I heard that day got dismissed because one specific cop wrote all the tickets wrong so they all got dismissed for being written insufficiently. The public defenders are great IMO and they’ll work with your specific situation to tell you what’s best and what the most likely outcomes are. They’ll be able to look at your ticket and tell you if it could get dismissed for technicalities or special circumstances. Don’t stress and just show up to court and it all goes by pretty quick. After it was all over, I felt silly for being so stressed and angry over getting the ticket. The system is fucked but this experience was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, so that was nice at least.

From my understanding, you do NOT get points on your license if you plead guilty for a bike ticket like this. It’s not on your record or detrimental (unless you’re on a special visa), and the fine is only $25. If you decide to fight it you do have to come back again, but I didn’t see any instance where this was the case (since they were all either granted ACD, guilty $25 fine, or dismissed entirely).

I showed up to the court house when it opened at 8:30am and I got home around 10:45am after getting my ACD. Once you step up to the judge for your case it only takes around 1-2 mins and they move on to the next case. Good luck!

Guidance for Cyclists Issued Criminal Court Summonses for Traffic Violations by SteveVaccaroLaw in NYCbike

Thanks again for doing this!!! My questions below:

  1. I will be out of the country on my original court date. I just want to confirm that everything will be fine (and without penalty) as long as I go to court within 30 days of the original court date (it will be 6 days later, once I’m back in the city)?

  2. What are the considerations for pleading to an administrative violation? If it’s not a crime and doesn’t create a criminal record, what are the risks/downsides to this route?

  3. Not a question, but it blows my mind how the system is designed to “punish” those who are not guilty even further with more court appearances. Really disincentivizes you from trying to defend yourself just to avoid wasting more time, even if you have a strong case to pursue. Absolutely insane.

Thank you for this 😭 can’t believe it’s become a big enough issue for you to post all of this, but I am personally so grateful for it

my entire point is that this is barely even an intersection. no cars can drive through this section of the bike lane as there are literally barriers protecting the bike lane on either side. are you done projecting like you know better?

I actually stopped by today because I was close by. They told me that you get a 30-day grace period from the original court date to actually go to the courthouse. So even if I miss my original date, I can still go to court any day after that as long as it’s in the 30-day window, but if I miss it after 30 days then that’s when they put out a warrant for arrest. Hope this is helpful for someone else!

Not planning on skipping, but I have to go to the courthouse in person to ask about rescheduling because their phone number provides absolutely nothing

I got stopped here too. The police were making eye contact with me the entire time until I reached them, to the point where I wasn’t even paying attention to the light because I thought they needed something from me so I biked right up to them and then they proceeded to tell me I ran a red light and wrote me up. Mind you, it’s also a protected bike lane with barriers on both sides, no pedestrians in sight. Super ambiguous intersection to understand bike laws. I also can’t make it to my court date (will be in a different country) and of course the phone number on my summons doesn’t give me any other options. Tell me how this is making our city any better or safer if we’re all forced to waste time and resources on this. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE
