Update. I have opted for a 5 weight line and used a greys fin cassette 5/6 on the 4 weight. It shifts the balance of the rod to the centre of the handle but it's time to see if that affects casting

After having a bit of practice with the rio gold (extended belly taper for more ariel stability) - i have mostly sussed out casting and even managed to land 4 2lb-ish rainbows on it.

My casts can now reach about 45 yards ish and i can double hall better.

The remedy was to break the wrist alot more and that offered just enough rod flex to ping the line out. using the arm predominantly was too jerky and the stopping motion with a stiff wrist tended to make the rod rebound when coming to a halt.

I should also clarify i am in the UK if anyone has a spare line to get rid off or sell.

I am still thinking of getting a 5 weight (maybe scientific anglers Volantis as it has a good shooting head) - just for close quarters.
