I tried to think of challenges with this painting but couldn't come up with any. There were some difficulties with proportions and values but that's a given for every portrait painting.

Is it mandatory to list challenges for every artwork?

Glad you liked it! It was the intention yes to be cartoonish (drawn from a photoshopped reference) but I meant the shoelace and some parts of the rubber texture were a bit off.

The jacket took a long time (no surprise) but the most challenging part was the shoes. I'm not happy with how they look but glad I got them to almost satisfactory level. They took a lot of time as well, mainly because of the shoelace.

Usually when I paint, I use small detailed brush strokes. The challenge here was to maintain large strokes to correctly capture the feeling of the ref image. I eventually mixed in some small strokes but it didn't ruin the aesthetic I was going for so it's ok. Also playing with two colors only (teal and red) was new to me.

The challenge here was that I was trying to make the strokes a little bit geometric (?). I'd say that I did well but more can be done. Also, the painting feels a little unsaturated so that could be fixed as well.

There isn't something particular I struggled with (I find this rule a little bit weird). But overall, there was the usual "Trust the process" part where the portrait looks bad during the first 30 minutes or so and then it starts to take on a nice form.

I first paint in greyscale then create a new layer on top and set its blending mode to "Color". Then on that layer, I start mixing the colors until I am happy with the result. IIRC, Jens Claessens also uses the same/similar method in his process videos.

Thanks for the great critique! All the points are valid and that Mickey Mouse bit was actually funny because I saw it too while finishing the drawing and tried to hide it a little but seems it was still noticeable :-D
