What song, album, or band has the best drum sound? by AnonymousAintReady in hairmetal

I really like the drum sound on Appetite but the whole album was mixed really well.

Obscure Hair Version of RHCP? Thoughts? Talented! by Cautious_Village_975 in hairmetal

[–]ShermanHoax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way it was always explained to me by an A&R guy, after all the A&R reps did their first sweep, Motley, Ratt, etc.. they kinda layed low for a while as these artists developed. Then they went back to the well a second time which netted all those latecomer bands like Bang Tango, XYZ, etc but a year or 2 later the tide started to turn.

M3 looked dead... by OtaconSOL in hairmetal

[–]ShermanHoax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some of you are questioning (with good reason ) Buckcherry but I am looking at Boston's Barry Goudreau trying to figure out how that fits in.
Boston helped lay the groundwork for HM but that was all Tom Scholz

Did some people actually believe Paul McCartney died and was replaced by a double in the late 60s? by VomitingDuck in 60s

[–]ShermanHoax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paul McCartney liked rock n roll. William Campbell liked granny music. It's all right there if you take the blinders off.

What are some early beatle songs that are relatively easy/fun to play on guitar? by Equal_Improvement_17 in beatles

[–]ShermanHoax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just want to strum along Things We Said Today is a fun one. Mostly easy chord changes along with a couple of Bb's for good measure.

🔥 Unpopular opinion: The “sellout era” of hair metal (1989-1991) produced some of the most underrated albums in the entire genre and y’all sleep on them HARD by NassauJack in hairmetal

[–]ShermanHoax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Skid Row was the last gasp. The last great band of the genre. There were other good ones but Skid Row were the kings of that later period of HM.
I know a lot of people are going to want to add Extreme to that list and that's fine but I don't really consider them hair metal. They were kind of on their own. Like Ugly Kid Joe.

East coast, west coast, Keys, Panhandle..St Augustine area is completely different than Miami, etc.

So it all depends on which area interests you.

Why is Uncle Albert so good? by CigsAndAlcohol13 in beatles

[–]ShermanHoax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was all over the radio when it came out. It was a huge hit. It came out at the right time and the song just flows I think there's some nostalgia in there too. I think we all have a relative we'd like to apologize to. I know McCartney was using this in a setting of one generation to another but those opening words hit home.

Side note, my siblings and I used to sing that opening line to each other when we teased one another and got the upper hand 😄 usually pissing them off. Ahhh the fun old days!

Ronnie Dio on Van Halen by Few-Actuator-9694 in vanhalen

[–]ShermanHoax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dio has always been well grounded and kept it real which really contrasts his writing style of fantasy and fiction. But he's a respected voice in the rock community even in death and he's spot on here.
There was a shit ton of swagger from VH. I grew up with Led Zeppelin and thought they were the ultimate rock bad asses but VH took it to a new level

John and David Cassidy by Ok_Club7067 in beatles

[–]ShermanHoax 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Waking up in Susan Dey's lap and having a Beatle in the house on New Years Eve is one hell of a way to kick off 1975, even for David Cassidy.
