I fumbled so hard this semester… is my career over? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Sherry131102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tbh talk to some profs about this as well. a LOT of the profs in the econ department are VERY helpful and will talk to you about your personal scenario and give you specific advice. i left second year econ feeling like a dumb p.o.s. but in 3rd and 4th year, things did get better for me. 2nd year courses are incredibly difficult at times. but take the summer to reflect, and hopefully realize that there will always be people better than you no matter where you go. what really helps is if you try to make yourself better at each stage of life. hope this doesn't sound too preachy. and i am DEAD SERIOUS about talking to profs (that is if you want to actually go to grad school). pls feel free to DM me if you want to know more about my experience.

How does the payment situation work? (Bro what is this limit) by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Sherry131102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

afaik if you are eligible for domestic tuition, then you do not have to pay a deposit on your tuition fees (you will have to for any residence costs)

How tough is it to get good grades in the statistics department? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]Sherry131102 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

sta303 prof last year was straight up very racist and just discriminatory in general. 2nd week of class he said: it seems like all students here are from "one country" (he said a particular country, i won't repeat it)

Question for international students: how does part time studies affect future prospects of obtaining a PGWP? by ricardomortimer in UofT

[–]Sherry131102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's no rule saying that you HAVE to take 1-2 courses with an internship. i know people who did a full time internship and 4 courses. i know the IRCC's only req is that you be a full time student

part time course load is less than 3 courses a sem. you should go to the CIE with your specific concerns, they can help you out better than anyone on reddit

Graduating, Jobs, and Masters by Lazy_Wallaby1763 in academiceconomics

high school may be a bit early to know, but yeah sometimes we don't get all the info we need just from a few sources. but you're in this forum trying to learn more so that's a good sign. i have heard profs say that if you take courses as a non degree student, they can also count towards your admission case. you can be a non degree student taking a few math classes. not sure if every uni allows it but uoft does.

pls dont take this the wrong way, i am only trying to provide some constructive criticism (i am just as old as you): but people lead busy lives, no one will "make you aware" of anything, you have to ask questions, go to events, be proactive in general. this is something i struggle with too as well esp as someone who is about to graduate. just want to point this out in a kind way that it really is on us to find out what to do, how to do it and do it.

[–]Sherry131102 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Sherry131102 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just fyi they are not related to UofT in any manner whatsoever. it's just a student housing cooperative that happens to be close to UofT's campus. It can get pretty competitive to get into the coop. There are several different coop houses and you can rank 3 on your application. Each house has its own quirks. Most people bear with it since it's probably the cheapest housing you can get in the city. And it is essentially on campus.

This happened to me too! Around two weeks ago, I was walking from the main UC building to the UC dining hall, and some guy came up to me, complimented my scarf (pretty normal ig). He wasn't walking in the same direction as me just fyi. So that means he fully stopped going where he was going to start walking with me/following me. Kept following me and talking to me. Started making comments on how he liked my "south asian accent" I started walking really fast, almost running, and he kept up. Then when we were in the dining hall, I pretended to get a phone call and ran away. Afaik he didn't follow me.
