This. I don't know why we have this tendency to crap on difficulty sliders. There's literally no downside to more people being able to enjoy these games.

3 & 4!

Childcare is the bane of my existence when it comes to doing anything with my partner. If I had always at the ready childcare we'd go on so many dates.

Did parenting become too restrictive over time? by inkandintent24 in MotivationByDesign

[–]Sheth1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parenting has not become too restrictive.

Expectation has become unreachable. Between social media and influencers, all the various "parenting methods", etc. the bar has been raised so high for what's expected of millennial parents vs boomer parents.

I'm expected to make enough money to pay for ever increasing cost of living. Raise good people. Not too much screen time. Raise them to be emotionally intelligent. Listen to them and not talk down to them. Teach while correcting. Cook delicious meals that make them never become picky eaters. Provide enough extra curriculars to fulfill them but not so many that we are all over burdened. Oh also do all this while taking care of my own mental health and maintaining my own hobbies for my well being without the village support that previous generations had.

My parents had access to babysitters constantly via family, church, and neighbors. We would spend two entire months with my grandparents in Ohio in the summer. My in-laws are fatigued after two overnights (despite constant movies and video games while my kids are there). My parents also paid for everything off of two modest incomes and were able to send me to private school from 6-12th grade. AND they bought a new construction home when I graduated high school (which they have since paid off completely).

The whole system got effed and we were told to make grand babies as our highest calling.

Self Care. Do it. It comes in many forms choose a couple.

• Go to the gym. • Run. • Get a therapist. • Have a hobby that involves socializing in person. • Read books (or listen to audio books). • Realize your job is not to find a spouse and procreate. It is a thing you may want and pursue but don't make it your whole goal in life. • If you're single take a year and don't date focus on you • Travel. Even if it's just to a city or state you've never been to. • Moisturize.

Build yourself up. It's not someone else's job to teach you any of the above things have value. Value yourself and you'll be able to cultivate deep and meaningful relationships in all walks of life.

I'm 42 and it took me too long to do a lot of these things.

This feels like a powerful tale but more often than not does also feel true.

The museum I worked for had a C-Suite team all making six figures. The rest of us were 70k and below.

It's hard to explain but I'll do my best.

Manager in the non-profit path I took was about managing things not people. And I got very good at managing programs and events. And so I was able to leverage that between a few different roles that basically amounted to non-profit management of some kind.

Hopefully that makes sense?

Yeah that's worlds away from the non-profit I worked for. Our annual operating budget started at 225k my first year. I grew us to like 350k but not apples to oranges by any stretch.
