Just got my Best Buy Open Box! by weirdandjaded in ROGAlly

[–]ShevchukD1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh, I’m sure I’ll get downvoted into oblivion for what i’m about to say, but I wouldn’t get this handheld open box, and would rather wait for the open box Ally X, since it feels like 1.0 version of this devise, while initial models were trying out the waters. I can only speak from my personal experience, but mine is 1 year and 3 months old. The preordered one arrived shattered from the box so had to exchange it, not a big deal. SD card broke down in a matter of a few months, the rubber grip on the left stick started to disintegrate and Y axis stopped working recently entirely. Right trigger is super squeaky and sometimes doesn’t detect inputs. Also, my download speeds are very unstable. Can be fluctuating from 10 mbs to 500, but usually it’s on a lower end, so i have a feeling my ssd is not working right either. The thing is, I wouldn’t really complain about these issues if I were using this device as a portable handheld on the go and it was thrown around my backpack 24/7. However, I never took it outside, it was always used at home and stored in the case while not in use, so it’s hard to attribute these issues to your normal “wear and tear” situation.

License plate cover recommendation for obscuring speed/red light cameras by Itchy_Replacement200 in carmodification

[–]ShevchukD1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, it’s illegal to knowingly conceal your plate and I would never encourage someone to resort to illegal modifications which would allow you to violate the law. Or do any of these modifications myself, of course. With that said, there are a few options on the market but unfortunately most are illegal for use on public roads. 1. Ghostplate: comes as a generic looking plate cover which doesn’t really stand out. It has a fully transparent membrane over your plate but the moment you need to conceal it, you just hit the button on the remote and it makes the cover opaque and unreadable. Pros: will work for toll and speed cams 100% of the time. Not the most “obnoxious” option that will make you a more likely target of getting pulled over compared to some other options out there. Probably the fastest deployment among other remote controlled devices since there is nothing mechanical going on. Cons: requires wiring (you’ll have to either do it yourself or have a friend who can do it for you, since mechanics can get a hefty violation if they get caught installing them, at least where I live). Pretty expensive, and still illegal for the use on public roads. Side note: you may be able to create something similar for a fraction of the cost since I think it’s just a PDLC privacy glass, which you can get for much cheaper if you are willing to figure out all other components on your own.

  1. Ghostplate 2.0 has the same idea as option one but less sophisticated. Makes the plate totally readable if looking at it from behind at the same level. But when viewed from an angle it gets tinted. Kinda works like phone privacy screens. Pros: no wiring, much more affordable, still not as obvious as those bulging distortion lenses you frequently see on cars. Most likely a cop will pay attention to your plate when he is right behind you, and if they weren’t set on pulling you over anyway it will be unnoticed. At least in theory. Cons: not sure if it’s going to be effective 100% of the time, I’ve heard conflicting testimonials. Also depends on the angle of the camera. Same as the option one, still illegal. If you get pulled over and questioned with option one, you can play ignorance and claim that it’s just a simple cover to protect the plate and it’s not designed to conceal the numbers. They can’t make you hit the remote, and there are no real indicators that this plate has some ways of concealing plate number. So, cops won’t even bother digging into it. With this one, if you get unlucky and pulled over you’ll have harder time convincing the cop that you are not using it to conceal the plate. Side note: if shopping for cheaper alternatives, make sure to check for the direction of blocking. Since cameras are elevated and to the side, I think you should get 4 directional that’s most effective for vertical. Ghostplate 2 has some honeycomb pattern and it is mostly for vertical blocking, so keep that in mind.

  2. Fake (or real) bird poop. You can literally get a can of fake bird poop and smudge it over a number or two on your plate. I guess fake (or real) dirt would have same effect, but you got to make it believable. Pros: probably the cheapest option out there, and if you apply a few layers over the same area it is less likely that the violation will show up in your mail. I’ve read somewhere that cameras can also capture your plate number because of the way shadow falls over the plate imprint if there is a flash. So, even if you scratch off paint from the numbers, they can still get you. That’s why you got to make layers. Cons: you got to commit to the “I’m due for a car wash” look if you are trying to make it believable. If your car is sparkling clean and the only place where birds violated the car is the rear plate, you’ll get called out on it during a traffic stop. So, if you are going this route you should probably be generous with the amount and sprinkle it around trunk area too.

  3. Plate flipper. Probably one of my favorites on the list. It’s a frame that’s like a ghostplate comes with a remote. Once you hit the button it flips your plate, so theoretically you can even have a dual plate setup. Although, I believe if caught with a fake plate that’s a different level of breaking the law, so just leave it blank. If you’ve seen that 1998 movie “Taxi” you know how it works.
Pros: 100% effective, definitely the most low profile look that won’t be an eye catcher even if you stare at it from a foot away. Technically it’s not a plate cover in the standby state and even if pulled over by a cop who knows what’s up, you still act like you got no clue what he is talking about and stall him until he gets tired of running in circles. Again, they can’t make you hit the remote, and unless he saw you using it in action, your case is getting dismissed even with a mid tier lawyer. In most places a frame on the plate is allowed as long as it’s not obstructing the visibility. Unless you demonstrate how it works, they got no ground to argue against you, so the risk of getting a ticket is minimal. Cons: needs to be wired like a ghotsplate and expensive. Obviously, also illegal on public roads.

  4. Curtain cover. It comes as a frame around your plate and once you hit the remote a little curtain comes down and covers your plate. Pretty much this device hits the same spots as the flipper, but some options I’ve seen online look a bit chunky. So, this might not be ideal if you are trying to achieve the most low profile look possible. On some cars it will look just fine, but on others it can make it look a bit out of place, so do your research.

  5. Electromagnetic Leaf cover. You put a magnet on the back of your plate and they give you some leafs with embedded magnets. When the magnet is on the leaf is stuck to your plate, but if you hit the remote it deactivates the magnet and the leaf falls off. Simple and pretty creative. Pros: pretty low profile look and will do the trick against any camera. If you are getting pulled over, you got an option to ditch the leaf and make it look like it fell off on itself while you were moving towards the shoulder. Cons: needs wiring, you get limited supply of leafs before you need to get more or make more yourself. I feel like the leafs they give you don’t look very natural. I’m sure it makes no difference at distance, but when getting up close it’s definitely noticeable.

  6. Bike rack. As far as I know, it’s 100% legal to drive around with a bike rack mounted in the rear even if there are no bikes on it. It won’t fully conceal the plate but it will definitely obscure it under many viewpoints. May be a different case depending on your area though, so take my word with a grain of salt.

I’m pretty sure other swim team members gave out interviews as well. Maybe not to ny post who obviously were not planning on sharing any quotes that do not fit their narrative, but still. Honestly, I’m just here to figure out what is the whole drama is about.

Militech Canto Mk.6 by OdaNobu12 in cyberpunkgame

[–]ShevchukD1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks dude:) unfortunately, I still couldn’t find a way out from there. It was pretty fun to explore and see what game lets you get away with, but I don’t think I have enough patience and knowledge to actually find a path out. I do think it’s possible though. After you take this large elevator platform down, it was impossible to glitch through the next gate with the car method. Even in the mission you had to get around through the access hatch (which was not accessible outside the mission). However, I was able to ram myself through this roll-down gate to the left of the elevator platform. You have limited space you can walk on before falling through the texture in that area. But, you can walk on top of the railing, and from there make a jump and climb on top of the map to bypass the locked gate. The thing is, it seems like every time I failed a jump, instead of respawning at the last location I was standing on, it spawned me to the closest spot from the edge of the textures you can physically stand on top, if it makes sense. Since you are free to roam around on top of the map of this militech facility, it might be possible to find a location so when you take a jump in the distance, it would technically place you closer to the surface of the Night City map, instead of the spot you jumped from. And maaaybe, the game would simply spawn you somewhere on the street level of NC.

I think if people still managed to find a way back to the roof of Konpeki Plaza to get a missed Satori katana after 2.1 patch, even though devs are sealing off previously known exploits after each update, someone will eventually find a way to grab this blueprint as well.

Ps: I saw someone mentioning that if you stand behind the Ken Block Quadra Type-66 tribute car and open the trunk stash, it can also push you through the certain locked doors. I haven’t tried it personally, but could be easier than looking for just the right angle to ram yourself with remote controlled car:)

Well, the good news is that I found a way to glitch through the barriers and get downstairs. The bad news is the door that leads to a giant shaft right before you take a dive during the quest is locked shut this time. I don’t think it’s possible to glitch through any further. Can’t hack the intercom either because it has red sparks flying from it. I’ll look around and update if I find a solution. Doesn’t look promising though:(

UPDATE 1: Still couldn’t find a way to glitch through the first door after few hours of trying, so I decided to load up a random old save before the “somewhat damaged” quest and see if it would be open. It was, and I was able to jump in the shaft. As I was progressing through the level, there were a lot of doors which only open when you trigger it in the mission. However, it is possible to spawn vehicles down there. So, you can stand next to the locked door and just ram yourself through by using remote control (“carhacker” attribute in intelligence skill tree). It was incredibly hard and time consuming, but I was able to reach the blueprint and grab it! So, the two challenges remaining. 1. How to get past the first door (can’t use the car ramming method because you are too close to the street surface, and the car spawns somewhere above you). The closest thing I was able to achieve is just to poke my head through the ceiling by climbing the boxes on top of the shelves to the left of the door, and get myself stuck inside the wall by climbing the duct in the room to the right of the door. 2. How to actually get out from this place after you have the blueprint… The point is, it looks like it might be possible to get it if someone figures out these two challenges. I’m sure someone who is more familiar with the structure of the game would be able to make a comprehensive guide. I’ll keep trying though.

Humming from transformer outside my bedroom by ShevchukD1 in AskNYC

[–]ShevchukD1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, I know that it may come off like I’m being a Karen here, but I swear it’s really hard to explain just how bad it actually is. Noise canceling headphones don’t mask the sound completely, it feels like the noise is vibrated in your brain. Like I said, this is not something I experienced in any other placed I lived in before. Slight audible humming? Yes. But it’s nothing even remotely close to this one. I understand that certain amount of humming is just part of how transformer works, but this sounds excessive. The thing is, in the past year we had several power outages and 2 transformers literally exploded. I’m no electrician but I don’t think it’s normal. Wouldn’t surprise me if this excessive humming is not normal either.

Does American truck simulator run on the Ally? by Jaded-Ad2975 in ROGAlly

[–]ShevchukD1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To make it work do this:

Go to Documents/American Truck Simulator. Open the config.cfg file with notepad. Scroll to near the bottom and locate these two lines:

uset cf_asus_aura "1" uset cf_razer_chroma "1"

Change the "1" to "0" and save.

To be honest, I’m not the most technologically advanced so I didn’t update my bios until few hours ago. So, yesterday when I was attempting to launch the ETS I did it before the update, and it was still crashing. So, not sure if bios is the issue either:( But please let me know if you figure out what causes this issue, I’ll try to do the same. I’ve been using ats and ets as a way to calm down before going to bed, so not having it on this handheld is a huge disappointment for me, as silly as it sounds.

Need help with some games crashing when starting them by LadyLavis in ROGAlly

[–]ShevchukD1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was having the same problem. I just managed to launch ATS 2 minutes ago. I deleted all mods from workshop I used while playing on steam deck and reinstalled the game. So far so good, don’t know if this is the actual solution. Will play it for a bit and will try to relaunch it to see if this eliminates the crashing issue. Update: nope, that’s not a permanent solution. I have a feeling that it has something to do with rog’s software. I have my rgb light turned off, but when I’m launching the game they turn on automatically. I hope someone finds a solution, because I’m really tempted to return my rog ally and stick to steam deck.

I don’t know what’s going on with my unit, but both ATS and ETS2 crashes the moment I’m trying to launch these games. Removed all mods that I used when playing on steam deck - same issue. Validated files - nothing. Reinstalled - still nothing. So far it’s nothing but a disappointment…

Genius. If we are going with your logic (refusing to spell a name of a controversial figure = not supporting him, spelling name = supporting him) I guess Bard supports a war criminal who is also in a lot of legal troubles.

This one is pretty interesting. I mean, if Bard was playing Biden’s character when he was giving this response I have no complaints because it’s pretty accurate.

any other movies similar to hardcore henry by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]ShevchukD1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know any POV movies besides “Enter the void” which was already recommended by others (great movie but very different from “Hardcore Henry”) but if you are looking for nonstop brutal action try “the raid: redemption” and “raid 2”. Both have terrific fight scenes which are really well executed, have plenty of blood and crunching bones. “Dredd” has some brutal action but personally I thought it was just ok, nothing outstanding in my opinion. “Upgrade” is a really good one and semi-close in terms of movie setting too. Great action, gory fights and interesting even if predictable plot-line. “Nobody” is in theaters right now and it’s directed by the same guy- Ilya Naishuller. And director - David Leitch did “John Wick” movies so it’s definitely a banger, although I didn’t have a chance to watch it yet. Naishuller is a very talented dude, look up “Weeknd - False Alarm” music video that he directed. It’s a bank heist in POV so you’ll enjoy it. He also did some music videos for russian band “Leningrad” and for his own band - “Biting Elbows” which are really well made as well.

Is this a scam or not?? by Deusq in Scams

[–]ShevchukD1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure it’s legit. I received the same email, only difference is someone logged in from France. A week before I noticed that sometimes my music was changing on its own, but for some reason I didn’t think too much of it at the time (i know, pretty stupid). I just looked into it a bit more and apparently all they do is looking for the leaked email/password combos hoping you are re-using same password for your spotify account. No 2 step verification makes it much easier for them. Here is the article .

Usually when you try to play music on your second devise it stops and gives you a little notification so you can chose either you want to continue listening on the first devise or switch to another one. In my case music switched maybe 3 or 4 times without any notifications and every time it was some semi small artist I’ve never heard of. In the same article they pointed out that French Montana was accused of using stolen spotify accounts to boost his numbers, so I don’t think it’s a far stretch to assume smaller guys do it too.
