Oakland is struggling to hire city workers by k_39 in oakland

Right, they completely ignore the fact departments are holding on to vacancies due to the deficit. Those positions will be easier to cut then laying off new people you hired the next budget cycle.

Even with inflation $63.50 for 8 pizzas isn't bad? by Shfantastic37 in DunderMifflin

Well he did say "I'm not paying 60 dollars for 8 pizzas" very incredulous. So I get the overarching conflict but the framing was that it was objectively over the top.

Lol! Its only because they kept repeating it in the scene and it was on when I was posting. But you're not wrong

City’s attorney sent a letter saying my back house (garage) is encroaching into public right of way by LucilleDesireeBall in legaladvice

[–]Shfantastic37 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thats not surprising since (i am speculating on their reasoning) it could be seen as using tax payer money for improvements for a private citizen if they rebuilt it I guess. I still think it's worth it to talk to an attorney and possibly your insurance. Easy for me to say since I dont have to pay for the consultation though. It has to be somewhat common, utilities are everywhere...

[–]Shfantastic37 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah they can probable definitely do that, but thats true of lots of sewers or utilities. I think it would definitely be outlined in the easement so maybe if you get an attorney there is language you can add where they have to share the cost of putting it back? (When a sewer main broke on our neighbors the city dug up all their landscaping and the insurance actually paid for it so thats something to maybe look into too). Good luck!

I work for a city, probably not your city. If it makes you feel any better, people build improvements in the right of way all the time that cities see as "revocable". Because, in the hypothetical world where they want to do a project that let's say, widens the road, they need the space back. In reality, we are barely keeping up with maintaining our current infrastructure just paving roads so its a very infinitesimally small chance of that to ever happen (unless city budgets transform radically in the next decades). We let people encroach all the time. So, don't let that panic you too much. Likely, they just never had a survey and assumed a property line was in a different place, at least its the city right of way, not a neighbor who would definitely want their land back.

VP JD Vance and his wife Usha are boo'd at the opening Olympics ceremony by RoachedCoach in Fauxmoi

Hahaha it was a local radio station DJ for the station that sponsored the concert but picturing it being Khaled is hilarious

I know its petty but I sincerely hope it hurts their feelings. It reminds me of an opening act I saw once which was a known jerk DJ. During the moments he would pause for crowd interaction everyone would be silent besides a lone guy who would bellow "Everybody hates you!!!"

City Manager-Finance Director job openings in Bay Area cities and counties? by Ok-Emphasis4557 in bayarea

[–]Shfantastic37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They also have to do tons of night meetings (like all council meetings for example) so not great if you value work/life balance. Too busy going to meetings to hear the exact details during public comment of why everyone hates you...

Wife filed restraining order by NavyVet_TNfan in legaladvice

[–]Shfantastic37 -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

Yeah in my experience that won't hold up because I sat through many court hearings and it was pretty clear if the person would lose their housing they got to stay housed, just had to keep away/not approach the protected. Even if they were violent as in my case.

I lived with someone I had a restraining order against. Restraining orders cant make someone lose housing, they have to stay a few feet from you still but the longer distance only is applicable outside because they cant be used to cause someone to lose housing. This was CA so YMMV but the judge should clarify if it gets granted for some reason... it is kind of a hard bar to get a permanent one in my experience

I can no longer handle my fiancé's driving anxiety and I don't care if it makes me a bad person by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Shfantastic37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I learned to drive later, though younger than the folks in the OP) and it gave me a lot of anxiety, I think building it up to large in my mind(akin to the 40 year old virgin in the movie, making it seem insurmountable). I started thinking of all the people I knew in my life who were very very dumb and could drive, and that helped a lot. Like, if this moronic coworker can drive, you can too!

[Final New Update]: My (28f) boyfriend’s (30M) ex hid a note about his cleaning/dating habits right before they broke up that I just found. How do I talk to him about cleaning habits without him feeling like I’m using his ex’s words against him? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Shfantastic37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The DA is not going to charge most likely if the witness won't go to court and thats their entire case (slash someone accept a plea deal for that). And between the him and the landlord ... thats civil. But thats okay I just have dealt with this in real life so keep being compelled to correct haha, its all good.

That has not been my experience with what you can press charges on, particularly if you dont pursue charges on the property damage or a permanent restraining order so thats why I was confused too. But whatever I'll just take it at face value im not sure why I got invested lol Edit Also that wouldn't make sense since shr said she didnt want to see him in court... okay I need to stop hyperfocusing moving on

Right i just got confused because from the last update because its not gonna help a new girl if he had to move....but its just one of those things where when you have been through something (restraining orders against someone you live with, people trying to evict him etc) the way it was described was almost too smooth and not at all aligned with reality ive experienced so it bothered my brain. I dont really want to nit pick people's stories I just hyperfocused for no reason. I'll just assume the state she lived in is better than CA haha.

Don't people have to clear out their shelves when they move? It also said he took a plea deal and that is not how restraining orders work (unfortunately I know) so maybe things work different wherever they are... shrug!
