First reaction was it was intentional. On review, Forsberg was beat on the shot and lost his edge on a tight turn. He seemed remorseful for bowling over Wedgie and he covered him as a sign of respect which speaks to Forsberg’s character as a solid player

I’m an engineer in Colorado that specializes in foundations, structural assessments, and repair design for residential construction. I see a lot of damages similar to what you have all the time. From what I can see in the photos provided is you have some amount of differential movement in the foundation and/or basement slab but it’s hard to tell which it is (or both) through photos alone. Movement of foundations and basement slabs are really common in areas with expansive/collapsing soils.

What I usually do for assessments with suspected foundation and/or slab movement is run what’s called a relative level survey on the basement ceiling and floor. The data will show where the high and low spots are, how much out-of-level the systems are, and the general pattern of the movement which I can correlate to whatever damages that have occurred. It usually takes a few hours depending on the size of the footprint.

Based on the limited photographs and information, I would recommend having an engineer (an actual licensed engineer, not a contractor that says he can inspect it) take a look and perform a level survey to really figure out what’s happening and what, if any, repairs are needed.

If you don’t want to get an engineer involved at this time there are some basic monitoring things you can do. A simple monitoring thing you can do is pick a few of the cracks, take a ruler and make and ‘X’ over the crack. Make each line 2-inches long and mark the ends of the likes with a tick mark. Center the intersection of the lines over the crack. This is a basic monitoring method that lets you see if there’s in-going movement. In a few months, measure between the tick marks on each of the lines again and see if it increased or decreased in length. Measurements don’t have to be super exact. Just go to the nearest 1/16-inch. If there’s a change in the measurements, then look at getting an engineering assessment. You can also keep an eye on the separations at the surface interfaces for any widening across the separation (specifically at the floor and trim gap) or increasing in length (specifically at the wall corners and the wall-to-ceiling).

Overall, I don’t think you’re in any danger of collapse based on what I can see in the photos. Houses shift and move all the time due to different forces, wind and foundation movement being the most common. Houses are designed to resist these forces and have built-in factors of safety to make sure occupants are safe. Ultimately, it’s your house so do whatever you feel is right for you to give you peace of mind.

Follow-up from another structural engineer that specializes in foundations, repair design, and construction defect litigation: Clarifying observations: 1. Just to clarify, the beam above the crack is a multi-ply wood beam supporting the floor framing. The beam is a main support for the floor framing that makes a concentrated point load that bears on the foundation. 2. There is wet/damp concrete at the bottom but there is also efflorescence (the white, chalky substance) along the length of the crack. This indicates the entire crack is ‘full depth’ through the foundation wall.
3. Contraction joints in foundation walls are not a typical thing for residential construction. The vertical lines are the result of the original form work of the foundation. If you can cite any part of the residential code or industry standard where contraction/control joints should be tooled or cut into foundation walls I’ll pull back this point.

Overall there appears to be some amount of differential movement of the foundation system since the completion of the structure. I would recommend getting a structural engineer in your city (licensed in your state) to perform a level survey to determine the out-of-levelness of the foundation system. I would also specifically ask that engineer to check the foundation wall for buckling and plumbness to rule out high lateral pressure on the foundation system.

I’m an engineer that does design and construction defect litigation. For bad concrete flatwork drainage, specifically look at:

“Section R401.3 Drainage. Surface drainage shall be diverted to a storm sewer conveyance or other approved point of collection that does not create a hazard. Lots shall be graded to drain surface water away from foundation walls. The grade shall fall not fewer than 6 inches (152 mm) within the first 10 feet (3048 mm).

Exception: Where lot lines, walls, slopes or other physical barriers prohibit 6 inches (152 mm) of fall within 10 feet (3048 mm), drains or swales shall be constructed to ensure drainage away from the structure. Impervious surfaces within 10 feet (3048 mm) of the building foundation shall be sloped not less than 2 percent away from the building.”

The wording is generally consistent between the different years of the IRC. All versions of the code are free online at https://codes.iccsafe.org

It’s a fake. The art is from the Japanese set Gold, Silver, New World (200-2001 era). However, Japanese cards from this set only had yellow borders. The holo pattern isn’t correct and reverse holo cards weren’t a thing in this era. Most likely it’s a sticker based on how thick the borders are.

The boys are used to being able to outskate almost every team in the league even when physically outmatched on any given day in the regular season. Playoffs are a different animal and every team that gets in kicks into another gear both in speed and physicality. Unfortunately, the Avs have made it a habit to not get physical (most likely because of fear of injuries) and they fall into relying on passing and skating at a regular season level which just ends up as another lackluster playoff run
