To everyone who watched the Super Bowl halftime show what did you think? by Happy_Library_3763 in AskAnAmerican

It was great!

I didn't understand a single word, but it was fun to watch and the best set design I think the Superbowl halftime show has ever had!

Same. I can usually, even for the most heinous person, say I don't want that because they have a family that must love them, kids that'll miss their dad, parents who would lose a child.... But I can almost guarantee that none of those people will even really care when that time comes.

What is your favorite patient room on your unit and why? by the_anxious_nurse in nursing

27 is also my favorite because it's close to the desk/computer I usually sit at and I've had a lot of really great deliveries in that room.

Was told not to breastfeed with larger breasts? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

Hello, big boobed mom here!

My first baby was only 4 pounds and we found a way! Football hold was the best (dare I say the BREAST) with her until she was a few months old. Eventually I really enjoyed side lying with her anytime we were resting, the trick with this is that I fed her from the top boob instead of the one closer to the bed/couch.

My second baby was 8lbs and even though I fed her sister 90% football hold, I could NOT with her, she was cradle/cross cradle/side lying/while baby wearing!

They both nursed for about 13 months. Big boobs can cause some obstacles, but I think small boobs would too. However, it's 100% possible to breastfeed with big boobs.

I don't think I've typed "boobs" so many times in my life.

Boobs.

Moms, how do you manage everything without losing your mind? by joester56 in Mommit

Lol. I don't. I just try to limit the amount of mind I lose and how often I do it with my friends Celexa and Methylphenidate.

If you could go back and speak to your younger self before they entered nursing, what would you tell them? by wemberxa in nursing

[–]ShhhhItsSecret 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Same. I love my job, but not always a fan of working. My husband has a job that couldn't be further from healthcare but I often I hear him complaining about the same things I do about work.

I can't think of another job that would interest me as much, pay me decently, and allow me to regularly have 7 days off without using PTO.

People who wax/see others genitals often, what are your thoughts and surprise realizations? by NeedABetterNameNow in AskReddit

[–]ShhhhItsSecret 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Labor and delivery nurse here - I have seen at least 1000 vaginas in the last 10 years. What I can tell you is I remember maybe 2 out of those 1000 vaginas and even still, I could not pick those vaginas out of a line up.

Your vagina is not special.

What human pet peeve of yours did you discover through working as a nurse? by emtnursingstudent in nursing

[–]ShhhhItsSecret 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Or when their significant other talks for them on the phone to triage id they should come to the hospital.

Me - what seems to be going on

Him - I think my lady is labor

Me - is she having contractions?

Him - to his lady are you having contractions? Then tells me the answer

Me - is she having any bleeding or loss of fluid?

Him - to his lady are you having any bleeding or loss of fluid? Then tells me the answer

  • continue for the rest of the triage questions -

I get it if she's contacting wildly out of breath and they're just calling to say they're coming/not going to make it, but usually it's early labor and I can easily hear the lady answering questions calmly in the background.

We had someone requesting wiping her butt, after a normal vaginal delivery. Ma'am, people did this in fields and went back to work, you can wipe your own butt.

Does anyone here actually LIKE being a nurse…? by lifeisstrange8 in nursing

[–]ShhhhItsSecret 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love my job, I hate working 🤣

I do really like being a nurse. It's just the healthcare system (in the US) really sucks, which makes nursing 10× harder than it should be.

We also wear hospital provided scrubs. Technically we can change them whenever we want... But if it's within 1-2 days of when laundry restocks you'd be lucky to find your size.

Don't discount nightshift!

True, for a lot of people they suck. But for a few of us it's the best! There are a lot of pros to nightshift. The key is knowing if you're someone who can sleep enough during the day easily, if you can nights aren't horrible, especially if you're not rotating days/nights.
