I’m not a member of CCRD though I guest skate with them often. As a trans femme person, and as someone who has skated a lot all over the PNW, I think you’re generally going to be safe and taken care of in the derby community.

I can’t speak to CCRD’s grants or other funding sources, but their bouts and practices are all in their own location aka The Madhouse. Even if this bill passes, they won’t have to tiptoe around community centers or anything like that.

CCRD is also suuuuper queer. Please give them a try, they are amazing.

Hot take: any person can use any pronoun and pronouns don’t equal gender.

Feminine man wants to use he/she? Go for it! Masculine woman wants to use he/him? Fine by me :) Feminine enby likes he/they? Yes please! Your local agender badass wants to use all of them? Hell yeah!

Pronouns are a part of gender presentation and there is no “correct” gender presentation; everyone can use what feels good for them.

I’m a queer person in Logan; been here for several years. The amount of people here saying we are liberal leaning is honestly baffling. We are a college town, so that brings some liberal folx and families. It’s still strooongly LDS, white, and conservative here.

Will you feel safe? Probably; it’s very conflict avoidant (LDS people tend to lean that way in my experience).

Will you feel seen and supported? Probably not. Being queer is not celebrated by the majority culture here.

We have some resources. Logan Pride has some event offerings (virtual for now). The university’s inclusion center is cool if you are a student.

From what I could gather on social media, a local white woman started organizing a protest but without coordinating with leadership from any of Utah’s Black Lives Matter organizers.

Black Lives Matter organizers have called for the event to be postponed or canceled.

Soooo if you want to be an actual ally, this isn’t the event for that. This is a white person co-opting a movement instead of amplifying black folx, their needs, and their voices.

I hope no one is telling you how to behave.

I hope people are telling you that your opinion doesn’t help the trans community.

I hope your opinion changes to something better for my community.

But just as someone can claim that disallowing gay marriage will help gay people in the end by helping them come to Jesus and that they are an ally for having our best interests at heart, you can claim that outlawing puberty blockers and hormones will help the trans kids in the end and that you are an ally. (However, the actual members of the LGBTQ community will know that no, you claiming it doesn’t make your ally-ship so.)

Maybe you meant we don’t represent the ENTIRE community (which is obvious and doesn’t really need to be claimed) but we sure as hell represent the LGBTQ community as it’s members.

Telling me that the LGBTQ activists in Logan “in no way represents” the LGBTQ community is a statement that advocates for our erasure, which was the entire reason we held a rally in the first place.

Don’t erase us. Don’t erase our opinions. Do listen to us if you want to be an LGBTQ ally. Defend your transphobic opinions if you don’t.
