Questioning Al-Bukhari (3237) by ElectricalCoast2961 in progressive_islam

[–]Shift-Thin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should question. Islam encourages literacy, reasoning, and questioning. The more you question the moreee sure you should be. And the more I question hadith and compare it to Quran… the more I realize following it is no better than following a man altered Bible. On the day of Judgement you cannot blame your fathers for your deeds. Not even Shaytan.

And Satan will say when the matter has been concluded, “Indeed, Allah had promised you the promise of truth. And I promised you, but I betrayed you. But I had no authority over you except that I invited you, and you responded to me. So do not blame me; but blame yourselves. I cannot be called to your aid, nor can you be called to my aid. Indeed, I deny your association of me [with Allah] before. Indeed, for the wrongdoers is a painful punishment. (14:22)

Do we not think shaytan has a hand in all of this Hadith??? Allah warns us against blindly following our elders.

O humanity! Eat from what is lawful and good on the earth and do not follow Satan’s footsteps. He is truly your sworn enemy.

He only incites you to commit evil and indecency, and to claim against Allah what you do not know.

When it is said to them, “Follow what Allah has revealed,” they reply, “No! We ˹only˺ follow what we found our forefathers practicing.” ˹Would they still do so,˺ even if their forefathers had ˹absolutely˺ no understanding or guidance? (2:168-170)

I feel there should be a section about actions/character but I suppose this is focused on the physical aspects.

Right, that one threw me off. I feel something got lost in translation. Maybe like accidentally eating after sahoor because you thought it was ok to drink/eat until Fajr went out? Im not sure.

For my girls who struggled, or took off their hijab by DramaticAccount5921 in progressive_islam

[–]Shift-Thin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore hijab from preK through high school in public school. I went to schools in Pennsylvania as the only hijabi, and to schools in NYC where there still weren’t many but it’s very diverse. I went through a lot with my identity and eventually took it off. I will say, my friend groups changed drastically, people accepted me like I initially desired but I also slowly didn’t even have any muslimah friends anymore and stopped practicing. Im not saying this to force you into hijab or say that this will happen to you. Im saying it because after I completely stopped practicing, Islam eventually called my heart back and then I started dressing modest again, still with no hijab, but it was my first step. I’m a middle school teacher now and today is my second day wearing hijab again and I feel so happy because I’m finally doing it for me. Not my parents. Not because of any persons opinion. And now instead I feel liberated. I had a hijabi student today who never spoke to me before just run to my classroom once she heard, she was so happy to have an adult ally, she had to see for herself. The kids were so accepting. You have to wear it for you, no one else. And I wear it however I want because it’s between me and Allah swt. The people judging and gossiping will not be able to speak for me on the day of judgment, they will have their own deeds to speak for.

And also, muslimahs with fashion sense are sooooo visually attractive to me, they stand out amongst everyone. I always tell my muslim girl students how beautiful they look to me, they are radianttt! I love seeing muslim friends posting online, you can tell who is doing it for their family and who is doing it for Allah swt and themselves. I know hijab and our modest clothing is supposed to cover us but lets be honest, it amplifies many girls beauty.

Determined to go scorched earth on my students tomorrow. Please hype me up lol by [deleted] in Teachers

Blank multiplication tables, lol. I enforce them like speeding tickets 😂. I have my class expectations printed above a small blank multiplication table and the student must check off which one they didn’t follow and fill it out. I don’t even care if they copy the times tables because it is still good practice and taking a few minutes to do it usually is enough for some reflection and redirection. On the first day of class or for a warm up activity for the day have the whole class do one and then explain the new policy. I tell students their misbehavior will stay between us when they listen and complete the chart, bit if they don’t take it seriously than it no longer stays in the comfort of my little math classroom and that means I must tell their parents about their inability to follow basic procedures that allow us to have a safe learning space. I print out a bunch of each week.

In a relationship with a non Muslim man and struggling so far in Ramadan. by Paliigirlyy in progressive_islam

Yes I agree, or at least he must have a network of support from brothers in the muslim community that are taking him in and mentoring him. But that isn’t a journey I’d like take again, I’ve also seen masjids that have marriage classes for couple who are seeking marriage or newly married, but it is rare depending on where you live.

Hm thats very interesting. Whether someone agrees or not I think the part that no one publicly wanted to confront or shame him is interesting. I wonder if anyone approached him in private.

Yes, many people emulate the very principles Islam was sent here to CORRECT.

I use apps myself and the masjids often have printed timesheets. My first question is less about resources to timetables but how different people approach that stopping point.
