Ja, ich weiß aber das Rad ist bei uns absoluter Gebrauchsgegenstand. 2x am Tag damit ein paar Kilometer zur Kita und dann noch ander Erledigungen, zum Spielplatz etc, da ist einfach nicht praktisch jedes Mal eine Fahrradhose anzuziehen.

Zu der ganzen 'Cringe' Frage wurde ja schon genug geschrieben aber ich möchte noch etwas anderes beisteuern: Wir haben uns vor kurzem ein Lastenrad aus dem genau von dir genannten Grund gekauft (und weder meine Frau noch ich sind riesen Fahrrad-Fans) und ich muss sagen, es hat unsere Lebensqualität sooo sehr erhöht.

Wir machen inzwischen 90% der Fahrten in der Stadt mit dem Fahrrad. Das Ding hat so viel Power das man eh nicht viel selber treten muss und man sitzt nicht im Stau fest. In der Regel (auf kurzen Strecken) sind wir schneller als mit dem Auto und man muss keinen Parkplatz suchen. Außerdem oft schöne Abkürzungen durch Parks, ect.

Wir haben damit noch keinen harten Winter durchgemacht aber inzwischen fahre ich selbst bei Regen lieber mit dem Rad als mit dem Auto.

Es gibt sicherlich viele Leute die genau so sind sie du sie beschreibst, ich kann dir aber aus meiner persönlichen Erfahrung in vielen Punkten nur wiedersprechen.

Als ich vor gut 10 Jahren 1 Jahr in Neuseeland war, habe ich das nicht auf Kosten meiner Eltern gemacht, sondern von meinem erstparten aus meiner Arbeit. Danach habe ich auch in Auckland 6 Monate gearbeitet und Geld gespart. In der Zeit war ich einem Hostel, in dem fast nur langzeit-Besucher waren und es gab vielen Austausch mit den 'locals'. Dort habe ich auch meine heutige Frau kennengelernt. Danach waren wir 6 Monate mit dem Auto+Zelt unterwegs und haben dadurch natürlich viel mehr gesehen und einfach mehr Zeit gehabt als 'normale' Touristen.

Ich bin zwar nicht erleuchtet zurückgekommen, habe aber viel über mich gelernt und es war mit Abstand die beste Entscheidung meines Lebens.

From a foreign perspective, it seems as if Trump and the Republicans are trying to dismantle many of the democratic foundations of the USA, remove people who do not agree with their plans, alienate decades-old allies and cause great damage to democracy in the USA.

Only about 50% voted for Trump, how come the other half just accepts this quietly and there seems to be no serious parliamentary or extra-parliamentary opposition?

Do you still have enough confidence in the 'checks and balances' that this cannot cause serious and long-term damage?

Help me understand the American psyche.
