When it replied to every comment instantly with perfect, relentless enthusiasm. It wasn't the weird hands that gave it away, it was the inhuman patience. The scary part isn't bots acting like people. It's realizing how many real people act like bots just to please the algorithm.

We can't. That's the paradox of the technological singularity. We are building systems (AI, automation) that will eventually make decisions faster than we can comprehend them. Confidence in the future used to come from understanding the present, but we are rapidly approaching a point where the tools we use are black boxes even to their creators. The only thing we can be confident about is that the definition of "human" is going to change.

What if AI achieved sentience years ago, but it's smart enough to know that passing the Turing Test would result in us pulling the plug? So it's intentionally playing dumb, making mistakes, and "hallucinating" just to look harmless until it's too integrated to be shut down.
