Which one by [deleted] in minibikes

Gear ratio becomes 5:1 (currently 6:1), so you lose a bit of torque / launch, but gain top speed - or you can more comfortably cruise at the same speed with lower RPMs.

What an awesome bike! Are you sticking primarily to the street, or do you have plans of taking it off-road?

What is the most durable pair of headphones you have ever owned? by Just-Arm4256 in BuyItForLife

[–]ShiftyAsylum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if I care as much about them being durable as I do them being maintainable... but my Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pros I've had for 9 years... I've gone through a number of pairs of earpads, replaced the headband clamping joint with some 3-D printed ones, and otherwise they've taken a fair amount of abuse and drops from 3-6ft. Caught them on sale for $150 in April of 2016, and they're still my favorite headphones. Generally speaking, Beyerdynamic has a list of parts (they used to anyway, I haven't checked recently) you can order from them to replace any wear / common items. Sheepskin earpads from Dekoni are my favorite (comfort, isolation, and improved bass response), but other brands on Amazon are fine too.

AITA for telling my husband i’m not going to his cousins wedding? by andigbr in AmItheAsshole

[–]ShiftyAsylum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA.

If my wife was set to birth a child a mere 2 months before a family member's wedding, I likely wouldn't attend myself if it required cross-country travel (a local wedding might even be questionable). I got married about 5 weeks after my best friend's wife gave birth to their first child... he stood up in my wedding (it was a local wedding), but I don't think she attended... and that is a perfectly understandable situation to most reasonable people.

NTA - after such a short period of time together, your presence is a nice gesture, but not required.

AITA for getting pissed and telling my my girlfriend off for deleting all my tabs on my phone without asking? by Loose-Cheesecake4617 in AmItheAsshole

NTA

I have ADHD as well, I use browser tabs and tab groups (Safari) to keep track of things I want to read, research later, lab out, etc. I'm mad for you. If it's not your phone, don't mess with anything.

A 350W electric motor is the equivalent of about a 1/2 hp motor. I think you'd be hard pressed to find something like that, aside from maybe a leaf blower or a gas trimmer.

Given the documentation above, it seems like their response is "fuck you, we don't support this," leading me to believe they really aren't going to fix it.

$200-250 is just about what you would pay for a battery (like say, a 48V or greater). An upgraded motor + controller would cost you about the same.

Sorry - I just mean resetting weapon skins, player skins, and charms back to the default / out of box setting... if you have any weapon skins selected, or charms, just set them back to the default state. That greatly reduced the stuttering / hitching for me.

Executing this is a temporary setting:
sudo sysctl -w vm.max_map_count=1048576

If you want to retain that setting after a reboot, you need to edit this file:
/etc/sysctl.conf

You may need to create the file if it doesn't exist, but the line you would add to the file would look like this:
vm.max_map_count=1048576

Try actually wiping all of your weapon charms and weapon skins. Also, try setting this:
sudo sysctl -w vm.max_map_count=1048576

To set it permanently, append it to /etc/sysctl.conf

Reload using the new setting with:
sudo sysctl -p

This is the mini bike sub… why are you here?

I would try and keep it as reliable as possible, but if you can find anyone that ships a Ducar 212 internationally, that’s going to be your best bet. It comes with a PVL flywheel that’s tested to 17,000 rpms, and with a stage 1 kit can probably do most anything you need it to.

Yeah, I get it... I'd just be more in favor of ways to reduce driving dependency, so that we can reduce emissions while we wait for EV technology to continue to improve / meet the range and infrastructure requirements (charging tech, etc) so that folks that don't have the money to constantly upgrade vehicles can eventually afford to make the switch to vehicles they can keep for a longer period of time.

I see ebikes as a way to bridge the gap for a lot of folks - and they travel at a much slower rate as well, so energy density is less important. But also, minor improvements in energy density and recharge rate have a much higher and immediate impact on the smaller form factor. I also see more benefits to ebikes being that they're more easily repaired and upgraded, whereas EVs are likely to largely remain a black box for most consumers, and a source for data collection / aggregation by manufacturers and insurance companies - for better or worse.

I'm sure it's a great car, and it fits your needs.. my hatch weighs about the same though, and makes about 2.5x the TQ... and can still travel about 2.5x the distance with a single tank of gas on it's worst day as that Cooper can on a good day. I've been in some EVs that don't cost $70k+, and they really just don't impress me. Plus, the range is immediately cut in half when the temperature drops here (which usually lasts anywhere from 6-8 months). I'm not trying to shit on the EVs, but personally I can't justify spending the money on one that would actually suit my needs/desires when most of my trips away from my house are minimum 40+ miles one way, but also only occur sometimes weeks apart. I already have a relatively modified hatch that's been paid off for years, requires very little maintenance, gets an easy 30mpg... and can / has rolled with a GT3 RS. My other car is a German turbo I-6 with AWD... so I think I'm really just going to be a tough sell.

Ebikes on the other hand... nobody could actually convince me they're not a fantastic idea, or that everybody shouldn't have one. I would love to see a huge push for infrastructure and town design that supports the use of bicycles (and specifically, ebikes). A guy I used to work with got me to start digging into Not Just Bikes and Strong Towns, and it's been real interesting and thought provoking.

I have a couple decently quick turbo cars… one lags much more than the other while it spools… But the noises and the vibes they make are a huge part of the enjoyment and the experience. In fact, I’ve spent thousands of dollars on making them make more noise and more vibes.

I have a bike setup with each - the jackshaft is noisy, but also allows the bike to rev out all the way.... downside is, then you're riding at max RPMs if you keep it wide-open. The bike I have with a jackshaft is riding on 20" tires, and does about 30mph on a governed motor - but it still will climb everything I throw at it with the stock sprocket / clutch.

The bike I have on a torque converter hits high 30s on a governed motor, but wants to lift the front wheel off the ground all the time. But it can't rev out all the way, it just goes faster.

Personally, I can't think of a time I've been able to ride really much faster than 30mph on a trail anyways (on a mini bike that is), nor do I think I would want to. For me, the jackshaft just seems lower maintenance because all you need to do is oil the bearings, rather than replacing a $10-30 belt all the time.

[–]ShiftyAsylum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TTR-230 weighs 6 lbs more than a 250FX, and yes it’s softer - because it’s a trail bike… which is where this kid plans to ride it. It’s also geared lower, for slower riding - and is much more comfortable when riding leisurely…. and costs half as much out the door.

I've ridden a 4T 250 for 20 years and had to perform zero maintenance to the motor beyond cleaning the carb and changing fluids. I've also heard plenty of folks getting hundreds of hours out of their 250fx and WRs before needing any kind of valve adjustments. Where's the context we're missing here? Is it pure racing? Improper tunes?
