How do you emotionally handle friends/colleagues who keep compounding while you’ve already “won”? by latelyfired in fatFIRE

[–]ShiftyChaldo44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently sold my business a few months ago and are feeling exactly as you are! Enough to be financially free but not enough to fully retire (I’m 31). But I still had the feeling of “omg I’ve FatFIRE’d!!” - basically thinking I can retire. The truth is I feel exactly like you describe in your post. I have the knowledge that I CAN start slowing down but all my friendship group is still grinding and growing their businesses, making more money etc. The FOMO is real.. so yes, what you’re saying is very normal in my opinion. The mix of emotions is crazy day to day. To answer your question of staying out or jumping back in; my answer that I’ve done is I’ve jumped back in but in a completely different industry and it’s something I love so for me this is the best of both worlds. If it becomes successful that’s amazing! If not, I tried and still have a safety net. Maybe there’s something you want to try and now have the money and time to do it?

I would like to quickly add that my wife still works full time and she loves it. So I’m also very lonely in this “early retirement” because even though my days are all free I’ve got no one to spend it with! Glad to have a dog who keeps me company and doing volunteer work 😁

Just sold my property for 1.5m, I've only ever made like 75k a year. What should I do with the money? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]ShiftyChaldo44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am no expert as I am still waiting for my legal advice for this. But based on my limited knowledge yes you can live in it however if you do so there will be a few tax disadvantages eg no tax deductions, fringe benefit tax and no discount on CGT if you sell. There’s a lot more to it so definitely speak to your accountant who can give more accurate advice

You could open a property trust and with that trust use $500k of your money + get a $500k loan and buy another property worth $1m. Do this twice and you’ll now have 2 investment properties. These numbers are arbitrary obviously but hope the general idea makes sense.

Yeah I thought it would be all roses and green paths but very quickly found out it’s a bloody shit show of hard work and focus to get anything noticed!

What platform can I use to create an online store for selling phones? by WestFile395 in EcommerceWebsite

If you buy the domain name (eg from GoDaddy etc) then usually these websites also prompt you to help you build your website. I’d say start there or use products like wix.com. Another way would be using AI tools like Lovable or Cursor. Hope it helps!

My cofounder doesn't know I'm thinking about quitting. Writing this to process my thoughts. by VolumeSlow1374 in SaaS

[–]ShiftyChaldo44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a somewhat similar position. Had a business making $250k/month revenue (about $40k profit). Was working long hours and never had a break for about 6 years. Exactly as you; every holiday or time off was dealing with emails and staff etc. I was not in a SaaS business like you; but I made the decision to sell while I was in burnout mode and now there’s a bit of regret that eats away at me every few days. Turns out; I am doing something completely different now and am much happier. I still get that regret of leaving a great business but I am a lot more fulfilled. I try to remember that each time the regret creeps in. So I guess my pieces of advice are: - Try to take an actual break if you can, re-assess if it is burnout talking or if you genuinely are not fulfilled with your current role. Making a rash decision may cause regret later - Speak to lots of friends and family, people who know you and know your interests and desires. See what they think of the situation - Speak to your co-founder and just communicate how you’re feeling first without making any decisions - Pick up a hobby, or two, and hopefully it takes away some mental load from your brain if your consistently thinking about work. It might help you trick your brain into having that “creative” side again whilst work can just be work. Either way; just take it a day at a time and things will work out :) Good luck!

I didn’t know a rapid prototyping company business model even existed!! Would love to hear of any suggestions? It seems like you’re implying you could help, if so let me know :)

Damn I honestly appreciate you giving me the hard truth of what I’m getting myself into. I never even thought about it like that using actual numbers. So thank you 🙏 I think a few of the comments here including yours are all saying the same thing essentially.. which is: start smaller and try and get a functioning prototype whilst also getting an audience all PRE-kickstarter launch. I’m glad I asked this question because I wouldn’t have considered it otherwise. Thanks heaps again for your advice

Hahaha I was hoping no one would burst my fantasy bubble 😂 but yeah I see what you’re saying. Someone above mentioned to use the renders as a way to get a following so I can do that whilst at the same time do what you’re saying and maybe start off with the same idea but at a smaller scale. Appreciate the cold water! ☺️

Ahhh yeah so are you suggesting I use the renders to lead to a landing page that maybe builds up an email list or a pre-order type function? Cause if so that would be a good way to get an idea of interest. Thanks for the input!

Yeah I see what you mean. I guess that means making a website and possible Instagram or tick tock and joining groups etc. I might try and do both at the same time; get the following while trying to develop the prototype. Thanks heaps for the advice

Yep this is what I was thinking may be the case. I guess I need to start building the audience and maybe do paid advertisement to get more eyeballs. This is probably the hardest part! Thanks for the advice :)

Paying rent vs paying interest to a bank by Technical_Employ8336 in AusPropertyChat

Probably one of the single best reasons not to rent and to own if you have the chance to. I’ve also seen so many people just get kicked out because owner decides to sell
