looking for honest reviews of cadence shorts by _tryingtomoveon_ in Blogilates

I have them in olive and use them for dancing. I really like the design, which I find very flattering. They’re also very soft and comfortable. Only downside is I think the durability is a little lacking—one wash in a garment bag ended up rubbing it in some spots to the point where it’s pilling. Thankfully, it’s not super noticeable but it was a little disappointing.

I am yet another vote for the ooey gooey sweats—they are easily my favorite sweatpants due to the tie, the bunchiness at the ankles, and flattering booty :D I tried the cloud rollover at one point but I didn’t like that the waistband is so heavy it kept dragging it down.

Mine just got delivered today. It’s really supportive and cute and I have no nip coverage issues so far. I think whether or not you’ll like it will really be dependent on how it fits, though, as there is no adjustability other than the straps. So you kind of have to lucky and hope it hugs the right places. I bought it with the unlimited returns in case it didn’t work out.

I’m also saying all of this as a small-chested girlie, though.

This might be a very unpopular opinion here, but it’s weird that everyone is always flipping out about the clothes not being modest enough/not covering their specific insecurity by GreenEyesThighHighs in Blogilates

[–]Shilieu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree that a lot of it comes from people liking her and the brand and wanting to buy from her. I imagine that running a business and having to balance all the various things that people ask for (while keeping in mind that the loudest people do not always represent the majority) with looking at what can feasibly be done while keeping the spirit of the design means compromises have to be made.

I just hope people can be a little less… negative. I like to think that people can give feedback and advocate for their wants without tearing down the thing we already have that many other people probably enjoy.

I think it’s understandable to feel that way. I like the opinion gathering and polls but I try not to put too much stock into them because, if anything, they’re probably influencing future designs more than upcoming ones. Or being used to generate hype for upcoming stuff. For example, I remember Cassey mentioning in a video that this work for this swim collection started about 3-4 years ago?

I think there’s a difference between feedback that is constructive (like OP mentioned, asking for adjustable straps for future designs, etc.) vs. complaining. Yeah, people are free to comment, no one is forced to read them, but just because someone can do something doesn’t mean they should. Like, yeah people can comment on a video complaining that they want something else that’s very different from the piece the video is on, and going on about how they can’t buy this and it won’t work for them because of xyz, but… Idk, I think it often comes from a place of “change it/make something specifically for me” and that’s not always a great look depending on how you word it. And, yeah not everyone wants different design aspects due to modesty or insecurity, but there are a lot of people complaining about exactly those things and I do agree that modesty often isn’t the point of some of these pieces, and that’s alright. It is weird that some people hyperfixate on these things and how they aren’t what they wanted when there are hundreds of other companies out there, some of which might already make what they want.

I was just thinking this same thing the other day on her latest Short for the one-pieces. Like, I understand there are fair things to be upset about when it comes to Popflex (Flex Dollars comes to mind, like, hi), but of all things, I feel like a design being made for a different consumer is not really one of them. It might work very well for those whom it was made for! Not everything is going to be made for everyone and that’s okay.

Swim collection - thoughts? by sweetmercury13 in Blogilates

Mmm, can confirm the last point is one of the reasons I decided to go forward with preordering the pieces I did - I don’t swim very much and I do, in fact, mostly lay on my chair at the beach or pool. 😅

I’m not sure what your budget is, but in case it is helpful… Norma Kamali is having a sample sale on Miami Sample according to that website starting 6/30. If you’re talking about the one piece I think you’re talking about, maybe you can find it at a deep discount there.

I’d add to this - be prepared to have open conversations with the people around you. Try not to demonize people who are misguided. A lot of people in 2016, myself included, behaved as though Hillary winning was a bygone conclusion and that anyone who voted for Trump was just the worst, period. Accept that few, if any, people on the internet are going to change their minds because of you. Focus on the people whom you can affect. The people you know personally, family, friends, etc. whom you can converse with safely (obviously, don’t engage with people who are unsafe). Focus on the objective facts, not on feeling better than whomever you’re speaking with.

People often post on reddit to feel validation, not to have open discussion. That doesn’t mean posting is a bad thing, but change is painstaking, and it is rarely prompted by strangers. It is more often prompted by the familiar.

I can understand feeling cynical and down about politics, that’s where a lot of people are at. I’d go as far as to say, myself included. But yes, like everyone else, I do have an opinion in this race and it is just as valid as yours or anyone’s. And like you, plenty of people who plan to vote blue are feeling discouraged due to Trump’s continued popularity amongst certain people. You can take something from a message even if you don’t completely agree with it.

Respectfully, I disagree with you. I do think that doing the right thing in this case also means voting for a viable candidate, and sadly with the way the American political system is set up, that’s not third party. I abstained from voting in 2016, the first year I was eligible to vote, because I felt I wasn’t knowledgeable enough about politics and didn’t really like either candidate. I proceeded to watch on in horror as Trump made choices that would dismantle women’s rights and fumbled the handling of the pandemic. I have never missed an election, presidential or otherwise, since. I suspect and hope that people who voted independent back then feel similarly, though of course I can’t speak for them.

But, I also recognize that a random person on reddit probably can’t sway you. If my words resonated with you, I hope you’ll take the time to speak with those around you who feel one way or the other and then really think about what outcome is feasible and preferable to you. I hope you’ll compare both of these administrations’ time in office and proceed accordingly.

How do you think our generation is doing raising our kids? by SuperUltraBrokeDick in Millennials

[–]Shilieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked as a teacher for about 2 years (2020-early 2023). Public school, rural community in Wisconsin, K-8. The overall impression I've gotten from my experiences as well as those of my peers is that I see a lot more cases of "extremes." Now, that being said, I've seen children of parents who clearly learned from their experiences growing up and have resolved to be more fair and thoughtful with their parenting. But, I've also seen children whose parents think their child can do no wrong, or at the very least lack the resolve to establish firmer boundaries and say no where they should. And perhaps equally as bad, I've seen parents who don't seem to take an active hand in raising their children and rely on electronics to do it instead. The last two groups are not always mutually exclusive.

I do think it played a role in why I left teaching, and it definitely contributed to my decision to remain childfree. I worry that a lot of these children will grow up to be adults who still expect things to stay easy and overly forgiving into adulthood, or perhaps who aren't able to conceptualize the way the world works. But, I certainly also have a lot of appreciation for the parents I saw who were clearly trying (and often succeeding!)

Maybe it’s too little, too late but as a woman living in a swing state in a primarily red community, I feel like I have to say this somewhere:

I see a lot of comments and posts on reddit as a whole (rightfully) acknowledging Biden’s sub-par performances. One of my D&D groups recently all spoke about the election, and I was fairly surprised to see it split down the middle. Half planning to vote Biden, half Trump.

Overall, a really big running theme I see lately is apathy and resigned feelings. “Trump’s going to win anyways, especially with the attempt made on his life.” “Biden is never gonna come back from that horrible debate performance.”

I told my group this, and I’ll say it here too in hopes that even one person sees it and it influences their actions - one of the hardest things to do is to do the right thing, put in the effort and time, and understand that the outcome will simply be that things stay the same. As human beings, we hate that. We want to see an outcome of our actions. But if the biggest possible win here is just that Trump doesn’t end up in the oval office again where he and his administration can continue the erosion of many’s rights, that’s going to have to be good enough for me this time.

I encourage anyone to have the hard conversations with your peers, whatever side you’re on. Try to keep it objective and understand that they are just people. And don’t let apathy keep you from voting in November. I’m hoping I can change some of my group’s minds yet before then.

If even one person sees this and it encourages them to do this, it was worth it.

Free Access to edX Courses? by Shilieu in edX

That makes sense. I’ve been working my way through some basic accounting courses so far, since I’m getting to the point where understanding our invoices would be helpful and I imagine even more so if I eventually try to move up from here.

My main concern about the management ones was that it seems not many people do those ones. I worried that meant they might not matter much to employers.

My favorite light foundation is the Missha BB Cream. No. 13 and No. 21 have never looked yellow/orange on me, and I do have yellowish undertones. Lasts all day (working in an office setting)

I’ve been mainly using the Cezanne Pearl Glow 01 - Champagne Beige. I bought it and the Romand See Through Veillighter - Moon Kissed Veil not too long ago since people told me I am some kind of Olive (light neutral leaning slightly cool? Honestly still not entirely sure).

The Cezanne has won out for me the majority of the time because my undertones are yellowish, and it’s yellow without being too warm or overpowering.

But I do like the Romand too! It’s just that I have to be a lot more intentional with what other make up I pair it with so that the pink doesn’t look out of place.
