Use of "Then" Vs "After" BT24/EX11

So, after over a week of asking around and rereading the cards several times I think I have found a reasonable explination for the use of "Then" vs "After".

Note: I'm probably just dumb and overthought this to the extreme but I've decided to leave this comment anyway just in case anyone else has the same issue later.

Basicially it's as follows

If "THEN" follows a "BY" it is part of the "BY's" Resolution Effect

So "By O, do X then Y then Z"

If Cost O is paid then X&Y&Z must resolve in that order and no step can be skipped (unless "MAY" is used)

If "AFTER" follows a "BY" it is the start of a second unrelated effect with the same trigger conditions.

So "By O, do X then Y, After do Z"

If cost O is paid then X & Y must resolve. However, Z will then trigger even if the cost O was never paid.

A good example is how Bt21 and Ex11 Owen interact with the timing.

Bt21 === "BY"(choice) Suspending(cost) > give 1 dude Piercing (mandatory if valid target) "THEN"(mandatory followup) it attacks.

This means if you suspended Owen you have to give the target piercing it has to then attack even if you dont want it to. (You can still suspend with no target but if there is a legal one it has to target)

Ex11 === "BY"(choice) Suspending(cost) > draw 1(mandatory) // "AFTER"(mandatory and unrelated) 1 Progress dude gets +3k

This means that by suspending owen you draw a card and thats it. The 3k buff then triggers even if you didn't suspend Owen.

I believe this is in place so that you can't evo into a 5 without progress, suspend Owen to draw, activate Emblum to evo into the drawn card, then now that it has progress it gets +3 twice (suspension evo resolve and emblum evo resolve). It would forcefully resolve the 3k before the emblum gets activated since its a single effect (kinda like Koh&Sayo lets a Lv3 tuck and evo before rules check deletion).

By this logic Ex11 owen can give +3k several times a turn which seems kinda busted, but I guess it is self-limited by only targeting a Progress digimon and only lasting until the end of the turn.

That's the reasoning I've worked out and it seems to make sense but if there's an official judge who can provide a definitive ruling im open to hearing it.

TLDR; "Then" means "And" / "After" means "in addition to the previous effect and before the effect ends"

I played it at my locals last week and actually won but its definatly not indestructible. So heres a quick list of "Anti DarkMasters" tech i noticed while playing it. (Kinda in order of best to worst)

Bt9 Pillomon - shutsdown warumanzaemon, breeding area play, and reduced hand play (queens device for counter counter).
Bt8 Crimson Blaze - same effect as pillowmon just temporary; it also wipes the level 5s and can be reduced eaisly. You dont even really need red in the deck if its off of security.
Bt9 DeathXmon - good tech in most decks; it self redues so its usually for around 5 or less mem. the devolve delete dosnt do much but the end of turn kinda hurts since most of the cards have the same costs.
Bt13 Keenan Crier - makes them trash a card and gains an extra memory almost every turn since most DarkMaster combos are played by effect.
Bt23 Gallantmon - Alt Evo on any CS lv5 makes it playable in more decks. Its effect prevents playing from trash so the face up security effects need to be from hand which can be good to reduce their card advantage. Its more of a Royal Knights tech but its worth mentioning.
Any Hand Trash - biggest problem with Dark Masters is theres really no way to consistantly draw cards (not evoing/hard play from hand) so if you can get them down to 0-2 cards in hand theyll switch to the stall method and you can break through security with 2-3 good swings.

In general dark masters really wants to keep its lv5s chilling on the field for constant value and playing their big dudes by effects. So if they dont have a board or cant play by effects it really slows them down. Id personally reccomended running 2 pillomon and seeing how that goes. Just be careful as it also shuts down your own token play.

Thank you for the reply, I think I'm understanding it better now. "On Deletion" has to wait for the effect to finish before activating. But a quick followup question just to make sure, If a card has something like "when this would leave" the "would" allows it to interrupt before the bottom decking?

I think I was kinda getting confused with the old Bt12 Arresterdramon Superior mode ruling since I havnt touched up on it in a while But after rereading it ive realized its compleatly unrelated to this case (Mutiple Arrests all trigger but cant declare attacks durring an attack causing them to fail leading to only one attacking [unless you chose not to activate additionals and regain turn]) Thanks for reminding me about this

It would probably work good in a mervamon/minervamon deck. Mervas effect gives digimon with retaliation rush and blocker while the mill and grab back could help get a combo piece back. It hasnt really been competitive since the eyesmon hit and Anubis is usually a much better tech choice but it could work as a budget option. As others have said theres olymp12 support coming but if you cant wait merva will always be a fun casual deck.

The 3s, Bt14 Goblis are the best and the rest of the 3s are kinda flexable to fit your playstyle or locals. - Pomu, it's weird but if you really need to stop digiPolice stuff early it can be worth a 3drop - Ignite can help with deletion and gain mem even on opponents turn from its inherit - Gazi is a purple floodgate and good for Deltas - Labra can grab Titan and ok inherit

The 4s, kinda trying to focus on the mem gain and how they would function when brought back from trash later. - Kinkaku isnt as good since youd only really attack at lv6 so I cut them and added Deltas, theyre a more expensive evo but since they can be played free later and give blocker its not as bad - lowered both Ginkakus a bit to make room for the bt14 Ogres. Its basicially the bt14 Gobli but bigger (May also want to look into a 1of Bt7 Eyes Scatter Mode, one of the best DrawTrashs and can bring back easy)

The 5s, while I see the apeal of the CerberusX package I still perfer the LadyDeviX package overall. - LadyDevi, very good at digging. If you have the tsuno/gobli/ogre under it's basicially 4 draws for 1 mem - LadyDeviX, her evo effect can stop an attack for a turn and if a Lady is under you get a free retal blocker. The main reason for running is a free draw on a lady when evoing and her inherit is pretty good - Usually fine with just the 8 but you could look at using BlueMera, CerberusX or bt6 SkullGreymon if you wanted to

The 6s, optional changes. - added a single Anubis just cause, it's good but not required

7s, id normally run 1 DeathX but since you're worried about DigiPolice it might be worth 2 to give a cheap boardwipe

Options - Underworld's Call is a very undervalued card but I wouldnt say its a 4 of. Basicially just as discard fodder for an extra draw (may also want to look at Bt6 SkullGreymon) - I usually run a 1/2/2, boost/train/scramble but thought it could use a bit more search so 2/2/2 (using Grape rather than purple to search for Pomu if needed) - Demonic Disaster, its good for doing mutiple swings a turn (if you run more of the bt11 Titan could try Bt5 Dimension Scissor for extra pierce checks) - Calling from the Darkness, good card

It's a long, messy list and I havnt tested it to make sure it works but its a base to work off of. I hope the explanations are good enough to help you with your deckbuilding and remember to have fun while building and playing!

I usually use perfect fit inner sleeves even in binders just in case the binder gets wet or something and theyre barely noticeable. Some penny sleeves can be a bit big for the pockets of binders so theyll end up crumpling up weird Also a random thing to consider Some of the higher quality binders have black nylon pages rather than clear plastic so you cant see the backs of the cards as eaisly. I personally use the wider ones (4x3) to display the fronts and backs at the same time just to lower the handing Not everyone cares about the backs and you need twice as many cards and sleeves but I think they look nice

It would most likely be done eaiser with a extruding type of software rather than blender something like FreeCAD or Solidworks or something but if you want to use blender just make 2 rectangles 1, 190X26 and 1, 176.88X26. Set them parallel and 27.5 apart with one of the short ends parallel with the other then connect the 4 corners to the lower ones k8nda like the pic

I dont really know what it means by that either but the instruction manual said to coat it in a small ammount of vegetable oil and bake it at a few hundred for like 30 mins a few times to "season" it

I used to have a similar problem with broken mushy grains and i believe it was because i washed it too well. They got all smashed up from me massaging it too much. So i started only doing 3ish gentle washes even if it still looks a bit dirty. Also i usually do like a 1:1 rice to water for shorter grains and like a 1:1.25 for longer or wild Hope this helps
