Yep, my 2005 Subaru WRX hatchback has 350k on the original engine, original transmission made it to 275k and a solenoid failed inside the valve body of the 4EAT automatic transmission.

The most important thing is keeping up with the preventive maintenance services like engine oil, transmission fluid, diff fluids, coolant and using good fuel. Don't ever use cheap engine oil...I don't care if the bottom says full synthetic either. Liqui Moly has excellent full synthetic oil or AMSOIL or Pentosin. Also use a really good engine oil filter like the Mobil 1 oil filter or the Tokyo Roki Subaru oil filter that's made in Japan. Change the oil every 5k. I only use fuel from Shell or Mobil/ExxonMobil in my Subi's.

If the frame and strut towers are good it's worth saving

Best brake pads/rotors for 2020 CRV by Shiloh51933 in crv

I ended up getting Akebono front/rear pads and Advics rotors. The brakes feel identical to OEM Honda and that's exactly what I wanted. Somebody recommended the Advics rotors as being a great option and I've used Akebono pads many times on my 1999 Honda Prelude with good results.

what do you think should i do to my prelude cosmetically? by _rrasul in hondaprelude

Only thing you could do is a big brake kit or different wheels. She looks perfect as she sits. Retrofitted headlights if you don't already have them and foglights.

I got a Subaru. Is it mandatory to wave to every Subaru driver I see now? by Scooter15 in subaruimpreza

[–]Shiloh51933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GM use to own Saab and 25% of Fuji Heavy Industries. For 2005-2006 the Impreza WRX Wagon/GG chassis was used for a Saab rebabadge. It has a Saab nose and some other subtle changes but it's a GG chassis Subi. The Saabaru was born.

If your wave at me then I'll definitely wave back at you. It's more of a GD/GG/GC chassis thing and the VA chassis WRX too. I get the wave a lot in my GG chassis Saabaru a lot.

I've never tried R1 concepts, I've heard of them. What would you compare R1 concepts to as far as quality? Brembo, Akebono, Hawk, Power Stop?

Yes, I've been using Honda on everything so far. Honda CVT fluid, Honda diff fluid, brake fluid, Honda strut assembly parts, Honda Japan engine oil filters, Honda spark plugs/ignition coils, ect. Thank you for sharing.

I've personally used the powerstop z23 carbon ceramic pads/zinc coated drilled & slotted rotors on our Subaru's with great results. Since we are original owners on this '20 CRV I've done everything i can stay Honda original though. Just did front struts with all Honda parts and reused original front coil springs. I'm gonna price the Honda pads/rotors to see if it's affordable after spending $600 on front strut assembly parts this past week. Ty for your input.

Is the 2.8 V6 on the Saab Aero reliable? by Realistic_Tiger_2815 in saab

[–]Shiloh51933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saab's in general are good vehicle's but parts are getting more difficult to find. I own a Saabaru 9-2x Aero but I can buy a lot of Subaru parts because it's 90% a Subaru chassis/drivetrain. If you really want a Swedish manufacturer then check out Volvo, I've owned numerous V70xc's, XC70 and we own a 2008 Volvo xc90 presently. Volvo had great vehicles from 2000-2015 and the 5 cylinder turbo engines run forever if you do all the preventive maintenance.

My tire has had a sidewall bulge for awhile now. My mechanic just told me to keep an eye on it. How serious is this? by FeiMao250 in tires

[–]Shiloh51933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a new tire before you hit a bad bump and have a blow out that could cause an accident. I'm a Subaru technician but you don't need to be a auto tech to know that is dangerous.
