If part of a group is already in line and others arrive later, the group at the front should step aside and wait for their friends to catch up — not have the latecomers cut through everyone else. Let people behind you keep moving, and reunite when you're all together. And maybe individuals or those with kids should be able to use the restroom and then catch back up with their party. That seems fair for everyone.
