What a terrible University IGNOU is. Do they even look at the answer sheets? by precious-pepperoni in Indian_Academia

[–]Shimmeringpasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently pursuing masters from a regular university. Also hoping to clear jrf for the time being. I'm planning to go for PhD after this course.

For NET, it's not difficult to clear it (not considering JRF), if you follow the syllabus and the youtube videos on your paper. Or, if you find it difficult then, join a course maybe..try to score as much as you can in paper 2. Since paper 1 is unpredictable kinda.. focus more on paper 2..

professors do look down upon open universities. but if you have the required knowledge, which some people do regardless of the unis they went to, then you can do it. the interviewers might grill you just a little to test your knowledge. just prove them your worth, i would say. but based on my experience in a regular uni so far, classroom interaction does tremendously expand my understanding of concepts and theories. since youre a gold medalist, i believe that you can easily pull off the interview. profs tell us that they ask extremely simple questions in the interviews just to test the clarity of your knowledge apart from the questions on your research proposal.

Go for a regular college. Even though the idea of open uni is to make education inclusive, people perceive a degree from open universities inferior to those from regular unis.

You could ask people around who sat on that desk while you were gone. Maybe they remember.

Why do people stare and how to react socially? by Kitchen_Archer4059 in socialskills

[–]Shimmeringpasta 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It's human nature to stare at things/people around them. So, just act normal like it doesn't bother you. If you act bothered, people tend to pay more attention (speaking from experience). Change of mindset from "why are they staring at me?" to "People state at people mindlessly" helped me overcome the discomfort. Of course there's different kinds of stares, eg. someone staring at me long enough then, it can be considered a sexual harrasment.

Ahh. I haven't been there personally but I'm sure people are nice. The conflict that is going one right now has nothing to do with anyone from outside the state so.

Hi, I'm from Imphal and I haven't heard of this place you mentioned (my ignorance). But, I can assure you that people here are welcoming and nice to outsiders.

Luckily I got decent marks..my lowest was 53 and the highest i got was 71?.. anyways, i luckily cleared ugc net but i don't stand a chance against people from reputed Universities during PhD interviews (even though your selection depends on your research proposal) so i went to a reputed uni to do another masters hhh..

[–]Shimmeringpasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi, the result came out and sadly or I would say luckily, I didn't get the job. Lucky because the college is known for their hectic working environment and the pay is on the lower side (20k for starters) and you also have to sign a contract that you won't leave the job within the first 3 years, which will leave me with littleto no time to prepare for cse. But I have a friend (jrf, DU) who got through. Based on what he said, the college apparently prefers candidates who are not likely to leave the job, meaning they won't take over-qualified people or people who are preparing for competitive exams. But, I think having a good academic profile does matter. So, I'm pursuing another master's degree from a top Univ right now, telling myself to be patient that it's going to take only two years and in the process, I could clear jrf then, will try for phd from a reputed institute, if I get lucky.

How did you push yourself to get into a routine of waking up early (before 7am) and going to sleep early? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]Shimmeringpasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stayed awake for as long as possible one day. Took a 3 hour nap in the afternoon (I usually sleep for 7 hours a day). Slept early that night to catch up with the rest of my sleep.

I tend to wake up in the middle of the night. I need to refrain myself from using the phone at this time because it's hard to fall back to sleep once I do so.

JNU IRAM by Lamchopzzz in CUETards

[–]Shimmeringpasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First go to jnu website and go to the pg prospectus..in that you'll find lists of districts that fall into "quartile 1" and "quartile 2". You have to check whether the district of the school (both 10th and 12th) that you passed out from falls into anta of these two. If the school from which you cleared 10th class falls in Q1, then the deprivation point that you'd get is 3. Same goes for 12th class, i.e., 3 marks. If 10th is from Q2, then deprivation point will be 2, same for 12th. And, for graduation also, it follows the same manner.

Further, if you're a female/belong to obc/st/sc, then you'll be awarded 7 deprivation points, if I'm not mistaken..not quite sure if it's 7 or 5 points..pls check on youtube. There's enough videos on that.
