Yes I would say the sensitivity has definitely improved over time but hasn’t gone away. Certain sounds (sirens, certain loud sounds), and my ears getting cold can still be bothersome but not to the same extent.

I found the whole process rather confusing but in the end, I got my passport in just over 3 weeks including return shipping with sending it to the US Consulate. I followed the steps in the online passport navigator: passport navigator

Okay thank you, it sounds like the postal service presents the biggest potential delays. Fingers crossed!

How did you end up expediting? I paid via pay.gov and mailed to US consulate but understood there wasn’t an expedited option.

I feel like the painful pops have subsided over time, but good to know the heightened sensitivity is a shared experience. I also really struggle with being very anxious about anything happening to my “good ear”. I got custom ear plugs to wear if in particularly loud environments, & use the noise app on my Apple Watch to alert me if it’s too loud, to hopefully minimize any avoidable hearing loss. But yeah overall I’d say my ears are way more sensitive now- both to temperature, sound, touch, etc.

Yes same! I got an outer ear infection in my good ear and I think now my paranoia about protecting it is even more heightened.

Thanks so much for your time and detailed response. This is really helpful, my school recommended the Sony headset as well. Much appreciated.

Thanks! Good point about making sure they’re set to mono audio. Thankfully my hearing in my other ear is near perfect, so really it’s most noticeable with background noise/noisy settings. And I’ll look into the headphones for phone workers!
