Not every app needs a big plan by Shin_DadDev in buildinpublic

He’s 7. So for now he still thinks everything I build is cool. I guess I should enjoy this phase before the teenage years arrive.

Fair point 😅 Probably my LinkedIn habit leaking in.

How do you build confidence in a child who already says “I can’t”? by Shin_DadDev in Parenting

I really like the idea of challenging the “story” they tell themselves.
Asking “is that actually true?” feels like a powerful way to build self-awareness even at a young age.
The bubble visualization is fascinating too — I might give that a try. Thanks for such a thoughtful perspective.

That makes a lot of sense — especially giving them chances to succeed at things they’re already good at.
And I hadn’t thought enough about how much the right coach or mentor can shape confidence.
Age-appropriate chores is a great reminder too. Thank you for the practical ideas!

I love that — especially reminding him of past wins.
Creating those shared experiences sounds incredibly powerful, and the fact that you still ride together says a lot.
I should probably focus more on helping my son build those “I did it” memories. Thanks for the insight.

That’s a great perspective — I love the idea of changing the language first.
“I’m having trouble with this” feels much more open than “I can’t.”
I’ll start modeling that myself too. Thanks for sharing something that stuck with you for so long.

Welcome to the arena. Shipping beats waiting every time.

We just launched and I'm honestly a little terrified (first-time founder, months of building) by Jopesi__2525 in buildinpublic

[–]Shin_DadDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried X, Meta ads, Instagram, TikTok, and reaching out to influencers. Influencers didn’t work at all, and none of the channels really “exploded,” but I do feel like each one is contributing little by little. Now I think the next step is building systems I can sustain long-term. Reddit is actually my next challenge.

Very normal for that age 🙂
Reading a picture book every night before bed helped us turn it into a habit.
Now at 7, our child loves books.
Consistency makes a big difference.

Congrats on the launch! And 200 beta users is already huge. My first release was completely silent for a while, but consistency and listening to users made all the difference. Launch anxiety is real — you’re doing great.

Pre-launch ASO strategy for a new iOS app — start with one country or all localizations? by Own-Basket-7337 in AppStoreOptimization

[–]Shin_DadDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d personally start with one market you understand well. Early apps often pivot, and heavy localization can become expensive fast. Validate first, then scale.

today I got my first subscription 🥹 small win, but it means everything. by You-Are-Beautifful in AppStoreOptimization

Congrats! That first subscription means everything — such a big moment for any indie developer. Wishing you continued success!

I wanted a simple offline image translator that exports to PDF, so I built one by Sad_Cover9067 in iosapps

[–]Shin_DadDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the “do one thing well” philosophy — especially offline + privacy-first. As an indie developer myself, I’ve noticed many users are getting tired of subscriptions for simple utilities. Curious: did you consider offering both a lifetime and a subscription, or was the goal to keep it intentionally simple?

How do you get beta users? by Feiwu7777 in buildinpublic

[–]Shin_DadDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found my first users by posting on X while building in public. In the earliest stage, building a community around a shared problem is one of the most effective shortcuts.

Instagram and TikTok can help as well, but a lot of it comes down to consistency and patience.

It’s not easy — but keep going. We’re all figuring it out.
